Our Samson has been losing weight for awhile. At first, it looked like it might be a dental-related thing, but after dental work, the problem has persisted. My husband took him back to the vet last Friday, and they did some bloodwork, thinking it might be hyperthyroid, but that isn't the case. Now they are thinking he could be in kidney failure. He is going back into the vet's on Thursday of this week so they can do a urinalysis. (No way with 3 little kids and 3 cats in the house that we can get a sample here.) He is around 13 years old, we think (came to us as a stray, so the age is strictly an estimate). We're preparing ourselves for the worst and hoping for the best.

I'm sorry to hear this.:( The hardest part is not knowing what is causing his weight loss. Diabetes can also cause weight loss. Hopefully whatever is causing this is nothing serious and maybe it's just old age setting in. I'll keep Samson in my thoughts and prayers. Please take care and continue to keep us updated about him.

Yes, let's hope that it's just that Samson is a senior kitty. My Boo is 18 1/2 and he had been losing weight, too. After testing, my vet said that he's as healthy as a kitten and that some cats lose weight when they get older just like people do. (Unfortunately, I'm not one of those people.) We'll send up prayers for Samson that all will be well. Keep the faythe.

All fingers and paws crossed that Samson will be just fine, don't despair if it does come back with CRF, my cat Ash was diagnosed ten months ago, and is still doing pretty well, it can be managed with medication, and they can go on to live happy, lives, hoping for the best outcome though, let us know when you do.

He goes back to the vet's tomorrow, so we're still waiting.

Well, he had to stay overnight last night because he wouldn't give them a urine sample, but after all is said and done, he does have kidney failure. It looks like we're dealing with a special diet, fluids once a month, and Pepcid. Samson is home now and seems to be settling back in just fine. It's been kind of quiet (at least in the kitty department) while he's been gone.

I just picture him thinking "I have to pee, but I am NOT doing it with you all staring, nope, NOT gonna do it!"

Aww, poor guy, but at least there are ways to help him, and it doesn't have to be the end of the line!

I've never had a kidney kitty, but I know several have had to deal with that on here. Several do very well for years with the diet change and fluids. It seems you must have caught it fairly early since the fluids are once a month. I hope Samson gets to stay with you for many more years.
