I regret to announce the passing of my little gerbil, Ebony. :(

Ebony passed away peacefully in her sleep early Wednesday morning last week. I was away on a veterinary course at Cambridge University, and was about to travel to the veterinary labs that morning when my mum rang me and told me the news. Needless to say, as I was walking around, with my dream and future before my eyes, all I really wanted to do was get home. :(
She didn't suffer at all, in fact she seemed perfectly fine when I left the day before. I think, at last, old age must have caught up with her - she would have been 3 this coming July. She was found curled up in her fluffy bedding, just as if she was asleep.
She was such a fun little girl. The runt of the litter, but the queen of the colony; that was my Ebony. She was more active, dynamic and intelligent than any gerbil I have ever encountered, and I am so grateful that I could share my life with her. My brother's room seems pretty empty with just one gerbil cage now. Nightshade seems to be fine, but of course as she's Ebony's sister I'm quite aware that she is quite an elderly lady now too, so I'm spending a lot of time spoiling her (and of course Flossie too).
Sleep well sweet girl. :(
