Today I came home, had dinner and then told my wife that "I'm going upstairs to see my boy". I got upstairs and opened the door to the bedroom and looked at the bed and he wasn't there. I went to the bathroom where sometimes he hides, and still wasn't there. I called for him and nothing. I went back into the bedroom and saw him lying on the floor not moving. My heart just sank to the bottom when I saw him there because I knew.

Oscar Meyer was rescued from a yard (from a house where the owner didn't care about the cat) and had been injured from an attack. We took him to the vet to get "put back together" and took him home to recuperate. We didn't have any intentions on keeping him because as soon as he got better, we took him to Cats In The Cradle in Roswell, GA so he could be put up for adoption. Well, a couple weeks went by and we stopped in to see if he had been adopted, but he was still in his cage. The lady told us that he would hiss and spit at everyone who came near him. I went to the cage and opened it up and he jumped right out and onto my shoulder. Well, you know the rest of the story.

Oscar Meyer was a very "cat-tankerous" cat. He only really loved his daddy (me). I would prop up in the bed while on my laptop and he would come over and crawl up on my shoulder and just purr. Loudly! It wasn't until lately that he would get on the bed and sleep next to my wife (he would always sleep next to his daddy and sometimes under my arm).

He was not the most healthy cat. He had a thyroid condition as well as a heart murmur. But you couldn't tell it by his attitude. He loved to bat at the dogs, kick the litter out of the box, drink from the sink and of course, love his daddy.

We think that he just laid down and went peacefully. No signs of any trauma or anything else. All we know, is that now, he is waiting in heaven for us to come join him. Oscar - your daddy loves you and will miss you terribly!

For some reason I'm unable to view the pic but your story definitely brought tears to my eyes. Oscar Meyer was as happy as can be w/his daddy, knowing that's where he was meant to be and he was going to hiss and spit until he got his way and was living w/you. He went to the Bridge in the way we wish all of our furkids could go, peacefully and w/out trauma. RIP Oscar Meyer and peace to your daddy and family.

I have the feeling that Our Animal Angel Army came in and knowing that it was Oscar Meyers time, lead him by the paw gently to Hawaii where he will get his Wings of Silver and Gold , and be a part of the Animal Angel Army.
Oscar Meyer will start his toour of the World ,and will see all the sights that our World has to offer.
And he will start looking for the place where he and his Meeowmie and especially his Beloved Dad , his rescuer can spend Eternity having FUN!!!
One Fine Day.

I am truly sorry for your loss but be comforted in the fact that he went peacefully at home with his loved ones near by. Your story of how you acquired him and then reacquired him is very special. I hope you find love and comfort from another pet when you feel you can adopt.

Rest in peace Oscar Meyer. You will never be forgotten.

Your passing has left a big hole in your daddy's heart. When you feel the time is right, please send him another baby to love. Naturally, he/she won't be as fabulous as you. ;)

So, if you come across a kitty who needs the kind of love an attention your daddy gave you, make sure you show him the way to the right house.

I want to thank everyone for your kind thoughts and prayers. I had someone pass me the link to the Rainbow Bridge, and it made this 54 y/o man have tears in his eyes like he did when I found Oscar on the floor.

I know I'll have another kitty, and he will love me like Oscar Meyer did, but he, or she, won't be able to take his place.

I'm starting to upload some of his pictures so everyone who will know who the love of my life was!

Welcome to PT,

This is a place where we can share the lives of our beloved cats both past and present. We know how you are feeling and what you are going through.

One thing I am grateful for is the peaceful crossing of Oscar Meyer, that he knew no fear.

I'm sure he didn't wish to leave a Daddy as great as you.

You will be reunited with him, at the Rainbow Bridge, at the Grand Reunion.

One Fine Day.

Godspeed, Oscar Meyer
