I found this on the web site,ddc.com (http://www.ddc.com/petplace/dogtraining/ponder.html), two years ago and printed it out. I just checked the site to see if it was still there, as you see it was :) Most likely it has been posted on Pet Talk before, even so I thought it might be worth another read.

The 10 Commandments Ė From a Petís Standpoint

1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you will be painful for me. Remember that before you get me.

2. Give me time to understand what you want from me.

3. Place your trust in me.

4. Donít be angry with me for long, and donít lock me up as punishment. You have your work, entertainment and friends. I only have you.

5. Talk to me sometimes. Even if I donít understand your words, I understand your voice.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, Iíll never forget it.

7. Please donít hit me. I canít hit back, but I can bite and scratch and I really donít want to do that.

8. Before you scold me for being uncooperative, obstinate, or lazy, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps Iím not getting the right foods or Iíve been out in the sun too long or my heart is getting old and weak.

9. Take care of me when I get old. You too will grow old.

10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say ďI canít bear to watchĒ or ďLet it happen in my absenceĒ. Everything is easier for me if you are there. Remember, I love you.

I think it may have been posted before, but its still great to post it.

I try follow these each day, because no matter how bad my day has been, none of my pets are to blame for it being that way.

That is beautiful. I have seen similar ones but not that one. I re-typed it & printed it on nice paper & am going to frame it & hang it up at my vets & the shelters I volunteer at as well as my home.
