My retriever is terrified of the electric shaver. I used it on her without a problem last summer but now she's terrified. Offering treats, talking, nothing is working. Is there a medicine one can buy over-the-counter that will sedate a dog? Summer is here and I really want to shave her. Any suggestions?

You can get a perscription from your vet, a lady I used to work with tried that with her wire haired terrier during storms, she gave him half a pill and it got him VERY relaxed.
Or try a more natural approach by going thru www.rcsteele.com (http://www.rcsteele.com)
or www.drsfostersmith.com (http://www.drsfostersmith.com) and looking under sedatives. They have stuff with kava-kava or valerian root to help calm dogs that get anxious during travel and storms etc.
good luck!!

I found a thing called Serene'em at petco and premium pets that really helps out with bug on those extreme occasions. it works great. A friend of mine goes to the natural sections in Whole Foods grocers for herbal sedatives.
And then there is my favorite - crazy glue on the butt or velcro...okay i'd never do it, but there are times when.....

There is a medicine you can get but only through your vet. They use it alot and give it to people that have a hard time bathing a cat, grooming a dog, travel ......
