So sad. My dad was in law enforcement and a dear friend of over 20 years is as well as her husband. These people risk their lives everyday to keep us safe. When you hear a strange noise at 3:26 am in your living room it's the police you call and it is the police you expect to protect you and risk their life for you. Especially for the elderly who live alone.
It is the police who see the horrible car accidents and scrape what is left of a person off of the road and then inform a loved one.
So many many things they do for us. Police are not perfect, no human is. But most are so good and decent people who want to serve and truly protect the innocent.
God's blessings to all our men and women in blue today. Be safe and return home to your loved ones.

Unfortunately, there were four officers killed. The suspect was also killed in the second shoot out.
I was very scared last night when I heard this because a girl that was just "let go" from my company on Friday, her husband is an Oakland officer. I thought how horrible that would be if she lost her job and then the next day her husband. But he was not one of the officers. Although I'm sure its affecting both him and his wife greatly.

Here (http://www.floppingaces.net/2009/03/21/four-police-officers-killed-in-oakland/) is a link with pictures of the officers and the suspect.

When I saw the story the 4th officer was in grave condtion...how sad that he passed as well. :( My dad grew up in the bay area and he said that Oakland has always had its dangerous areas but when something like this happens it makes everyone stop and think. I hope that some day we can figure out why people feel like they need to do something this sensless and tragic and maybe do something about changing it.

I can only hope...:(

Last I heard on the news was that Officer Hege was pronounced brain dead. They have him on life support until the decision is made to let him go. :( That decision may have already been made by this time.

"That decision may have already been made by this time"

They were keeping him on life support to donate his organs. Another selfless act.:(
I heard there were people taunting the first two officers during the first attempeted arrest. So so sad. So many families & friends with such a great lose. All so young. My heart goes out to all of them.RIP.

My thoughts and prayers go to the families of those slain Oakland police officers. So horrible. In Pittsburgh we're just getting over the trauma of three Pittsburgh officers slain in the line of duty.
