Congratulations Carmen on your new baby girl!:D

Finn's mom, that is great that they were successful in turning your baby for you.:)
When I was pregnant with my daughter 13 years ago she was breech and I had the same procedure done but it didn't work. 3 times they got my daughter to turn halfway and then she stubbornly went back to breech position. I know how sore you are now. My daughter ended up being a breech delivery two weeks after the procedure, luckily she was just a little over 5 lbs so it was a quick delivery. I hope you have a nice easy delivery and that your baby girl stays in the right position for delivery now.:)

Thanks, everyone, for checking in on us! :) We are still a-ok! :)

And, Vermontcat, I'm actually not sore at all! I don't know that it might hit me later on today or tomorrow, but right now, I'm not feeeling it at all. I'm pretty surprised, actually! But, I guess I shouldn't be, my doctor is brilliant. :D

The strangest thing is how different my belly looks! Now that the majority of her weight is low, it looks completely different. I don't think she's dropped, yet, even after the turning, but I'm definitely carrying her lower, now. ;)

hi everyone, i'm finally home with baby laura.
i'm writing with one hand as she is in my other arm.
the c-section went well.
she is healthy and was given a good bill of health yesterday.
i had to stay an extra day because of a complication.
so we both got home today around 2 pm.
i am so tired but it was so worth it.

And Kari, I'm so glad the procedure went well and hope little miss stays put. Quinn actually waited until just a couple weeks before delivery before she decided to turn. We actually scheduled a c-section and last minute changed the c-section to an induction since she turned. When she turned she was just a couple weeks from our due date and wow did I ever feel it. There was no doubt that she was turning when it finally happened....it took my breath away and was incredibly intense.

I can't wait to "meet" your little bundle also. I can't believe how fast this pregnancy flew past for both you and Carmen. Now Carmen's basking in the glory of motherhood and you're just about there yourself. Wowwie!

Leslie, you are so right! It has flown by for me. I can't believe I've only got 16 days til Clara is due to arrive. My friend's baby turned the night before delivery! It's all up to the baby! :) They're not even born and already controlling everything, hahaha.

All of this has been such a surreal thing, it's been fantastic, to say the least!

Carmen, she's truly adorable. I think her nickname suits her. ;) You know we want to see photos, but take your time.

I feel great! Just getting the house ready for baby and parents. :) I think I picked up today the last couple things we needed (a breast pump and carrier). I have some shelves, shadow boxes and frames I want to put up in the nursery, and that will be done, too. My parents are bringing her bookcase and toy chest, so I have to wait to put out the books we have. :)

The external version went really well and it feels like she's still head first! YAY! We'll find out for sure on Thursday when we go in for our appointment. It's **really** different now that she's got more room to move! When she had her head, feet and hands all at the top, I felt lots of little clusters of movement, but now I actually see legs, arms, feet, etc. She's so active, it's unreal. Our doctor always laughs at her when we're doing the sonograms, because he can hardly keep up with her.

I'm so glad you all are doing well! You need to change your signature, it says you have five days to go. hahaha ;) Just joshin' you, but it makes me giggle when I see it!

I just tried my baby carrier on, and practiced putting a stuffed animal in it. It is so much easier than a regular wrap/sling! I can't wait to see how Clara likes it! I know I love it, and even David was comfortable wearing the one he tried on at the store (with a baby boy in it!). I'd have to get him a different size, but we'll see how Clara likes it first, and how she likes the Baby Bjorn we got. If she or David don't like the Bjorn, we'll definitely be getting him one of the carriers I got for me.

Isn't it awesome? It still blows my mind/freaks me out/makes me happy that there's an entire other human being inside of my body! The heart beat was definitely part of that amazement! It doesn't get old seeing or hearing it. At least, not for me! ;) Can't wait to hear more updates as you get further along!

Awww, so happy for you. I too still can't believe I had a human growing inside of me. Such a miracle.

It makes a lot of problems in life look small.

Some sad news... I found out the day my baby was born that my dad may have cancer.
I had a feeling something was up...
My mom had to change her ticket. She left yesterday to see what is going on with dad.
At least she got to meet her grandchild and help me for a few days. If baby girl was born on time, she may not have gotten to meet her. Funny how things happen.
Baby Laura is giving me strength and keeping me sane.

I'm having issues with my sinuses so I'm heading to bed! But, I wanted to let you all know that little Miss Clara is behaving! She is head first, back on my left side, small parts on the right...plenty of amniotic fluid, still. She hasn't dropped, yet. We have our next appointment on Wednesday to check my progress (to see if and how far I'm dilated), and then the next appointment will be the following Monday, the 17th - her due date! That is, if she's not already here!

Yeah, still not feeling great today, but I'll be all right. I'm just going to do some light cleaning and then rest for the rest of the evening. Maybe I'll watch a movie later. I think it's just allergies messing with me, but I'm taking my temp every once in awhile to be safe.

Clara's room is so wonderful, it is the first room in my life that I've ever had a theme and really decorated, so I'm proud of it. :) I can't wait to get our first home together as a family and do that in every room!

I'm right at 150 now, and still feeling great overall (except the sinuses). Haven't had any real contractions (that I've noticed), but I have the practice ones pretty regularly. Not much else to report!

I hope all you ladies and babies are doing great!

Lyra has really changed over the last month. She has been sleeping longer at night, usually for 7 or 8 hours a stretch- though last night she slept almost 10 hours straight! She is rolling over, and she can sit unassisted but doesn't have great balance yet. Her new favorite sound to make is blowing raspberries.

Here are some pictures of Lyra over the last month or so...

What great pictures of your pretty girl! I hope you had someone take a "4 generations of women" picture for Lyra to treasure when she's a grown-up! Oh, wow, Jill! Your daughter is beautiful! If Clara smiles half as much as that, I'll be thrilled! There's nothing like babies that smile! I can see she comes by it naturally, too, your mother and grandma have wonderful smiles! Happy six months, Lyra!

As for me, nothing much to report! Feeling great, sinuses finally cleared up. I think it was just a bad bout with allergies for a couple days. It wasn't miserable, but it certainly had an impact on me.

I did go check out the office of the pediatrician our obstetrician recommended. I loved it and the staff! I have an appointment on Thursday morning to meet the doctor, and I'm optimistic about the introduction. His nurse came out to hug me, and she was just as cute as could be. I'm 5'1, and she was at least a couple inches shorter than me. ;) We definitely waited too long to find our pediatrician, but I really hope Clara holds out a couple days so that I can go to the appointment on Thursday. As long as he supports breastfeeding, I'll be happy!

I'm going in tomorrow morning for my first pelvic exam to see how far along I am, and make sure everything's good. I'll update afterwards!

How's Laura, Carmen? :)

These babies are just too cute. :) Congrats on your little one Carmen!

I'm getting bigger and bigger... really have to get some new pictures. But, I'm right on with where I should be. Of the 17 pounds I lost in my first trimester (due to metabolism changes), I've gained 15 back, and I'm 32.5 weeks now. Dr says I measure at 33 weeks and she's thinking I'm going to break the chain of giant babies in my family. All of the babies in my family tend to be between 10-12 pounds. My dr is thinking she might be 8 something, which is what I keep saying too. So I'm very happy to have a nice average sized baby instead of a huge one LOL.

Now for the bad news -- dr says it feels like she may be breach. She doesn't know for sure, it's hard to tell at this stage, but she said give it another two weeks and she will probably get a better feel. If she still suspects breach position, she'll send me in for an ultrasound. I'm going to start putting cold things up high right now just incase lol. Honestly I don't think she is breach -- I swear I can feel the position she is in and I'm sure it's her feet that keep kicking me in the ribs, not hands. I can actually reach into my skin and grab hold of them and they feel like feet. But at the same time, she moves around in there so much I wouldn't be surprised if she flipped herself overnight and now she just may be breach. Who knows.

finn's mom
08-11-2009, 07:08 PM
Wolfsoul, I hope, even if she is breech, that everything goes well and that you're fortunate like we've been! Clara was frank breech until we had her manually turned. Of course, she could still flip around, but we're hoping she doesn't!

Good luck, either way! And it sounds like you're on the right track with yours and your baby's weight gain! I've gained about 15-17 pounds, got about a week left til her due date! A few weeks ago, our doctor estimated that she'd be a 7 to 7.5 pound baby, so we'll see!

Does your baby ever get the hiccups? I could tell Lyra was head down because she got the hiccups 4 or 5 times a day and they always felt really low.

Oh, Carmen, she's gotten even prettier! I can't believe it's been two weeks already. Good grief!

I had a doctor's appointment this morning, and Clara is still in a good position for delivery, but nothing has changed. I'm not dilated at all and she's not dropped. :) We have an appointment on her due date (Monday), and our normal appointment scheduled for Thursday, just in case she's not here, yet. If she doesn't come by then, we'll schedule an appointment to induce her on Friday, August 21. So, that's our news! :)

Oh such lovely, lovely babies! Blessings to all you new moms, and blessings to all you moms to be :)

Since Vince turned 5 months old on Saturday (the 15th), I suppose I should post some pics of him. Here's my little hunk. I'm not going to lie, he was a difficult newborn, but he has turned out to be the easiest, most laid back little dude. He's just all smiles all the time. A complete joy to know. I love him so, so much. I was so scared that I couldn't possibly love another child as much as I love Quinn, but it sure is easy when they are such easy, precious, giggly, happy little ones :) I'm so, so blessed. Quinn was an easy baby and since Vince has been over his colic (it lasted about 9 weeks) he's even easier then she was because he actually will take a bottle on the rare occation that we go out and do something and don't want to take kids along. I exclusively breast feed but Quinn, no matter how hard I tried, would not take a bottle, so it made going out near impossible. I love my darling babies to pieces!

Here's my little dude, my little Mamma's boy.

This photo has a story...I have a nickname for Vince. He's "Frency" because he seriously likes to stick his tongue out when you kiss him. He likes to taste our lips haha. When you even so much as make a kissy sound, he preps his tongue. He's my little Frenchy lol. It's the funniest thing. He will be mortified to hear this when he's a teenager, but we're totally getting a kick out of it :)

And, as far as more photos, I completely agree with you! we need more. :) I will definitely be starting a thread for photos of Clara...probably will just make one thread for photos of her, since I think everyone here who knows me at all knows I will photograph her obsessively. ;)

I never got uncomfortable with Quinn either. Not at all. I walked a mile at least every day, even the day before she was born. I walked through my Braxton Hicks. My doctor kept telling me I'd get uncomfortable but it never happened. I did get uncomfortable with Vince towards the end but it was because I was chasing around a toddler all day, was not getting near enough sleep, and weighed lots more then I did with Quinn. It's so fun to be huge pregnant and completely comfortable :) Enjoy it!!! You will miss being pregnant since you're so comfortable. Cherish the last days of the miracle of pregnancy. Cherish those hiccups, you will miss those. It'll be amazing to meet your daughter, but you will miss carrying her in your body.

Oh, Leslie, your family is wonderful. Quinn is absolutely beautiful. I can't believe how grown up she is. :/ Scary! But, in a good way, of course! And, your little Frenchy is precious, that is SO funny. And, yeah, he'll hate that story! Hopefully he grows out of that, I can imagine how welcome that little quirk will be at school, hahaha.

I've been having Braxton Hicks for a couple months now and they are pretty frequent. They don't hurt but they are definitely awkward sometimes. It's amazing the shapes my stomach will take! David can just look at me and tell.

And, I'm already anticipating missing my belly. I know I'll love having her to hold and see and love on the outside, but I LOVE being pregnant. I have never felt more like a woman, and I get so many compliments about how great I look. And, it's nice, because it's 99% women, and that's just unusual. Besides the basically vain aspects of why I like it, I love feeling her move around. And, she's really the safest she'll ever be, and that's a feeling I'm sure I'll miss. ;)

All that being said, I'm really excited to meet her. :)

No news today! My parents are en route, though, so that's really exciting! They are due to arrive tomorrow evening, yay! Our appointment is tomorrow at 4 and then we'll find out when the induction will start (either Thursday night or Friday morning). Either way, my parents will be able to be there with us! Unless she chooses to come tonight or early tomorrow. It would be nice to find out tomorrow that she's dropped a little and/or that I'm dilated, even if it's just a little bit!

Well...no baby, yet! My appointment is at 4, so I'll update after we get home. If I don't, that means he kept us there to start the induction. I can't imagine that happening, though! My parents have had a nice, easy trip so far and should be leaving Mississippi this morning. They usually get on the road around 8am, so I'm hoping to hear from them soon. I just have some touching up to do around the house to get it ready for them, I'm so excited!

I hope all the babies and parents out there are having a great morning so far!

All right, it's go time! ;) We are going into the hospital tonight at 9, first dose of meds at 10, 2nd around 4am. We'll see how it goes from there and I (or someone else) will update this thread when she gets here! Pretty exciting stuff!

The appointment today was awesome. My parents actually pulled up right when I was leaving for the doctor's, so my mother was able to be there! Our doctor did a full sonogram, when he was originally supposed to only make sure she was still head first. I know he did that for my mother, but I am so grateful for it. We actually saw her lips moving, and her tongue too! She has beautiful full lips! Doctor said she had big feet, too (lips are mine, feet are David's, haha). It was amazing, I couldn't believe how we could really see her lips and tongue like that!

But, anyway, I'm not dilated, she's not dropped. :) But, she's coming soon! By this time tomorrow, we'll have our daughter on the outside! YAY!

Oh, yeah, and he took measurements, and she's a little over 8 pounds! :)

Yay, congrats to Kari!

Just a little update on us. I'm getting bigger..and she is ALL out front...You can't tell I'm pregnant from behind, or even from the front most of the time (although the belly button sticking through the shirt can give it away) -- just from the side! I've lost a bit of weight again. I think my water weight goes up and down quite a bit.
I'm considering calling all of my clients and cancelling their appointments for the remainder of the month. I feel really bad, but I'm doing very physical work with no air conditioning (and my shop gets up to 40 degrees some days (104 F), so I am just dying in this heat) and I'm starting to get quite a bit of belly pain. I think it's just from too much bending.. I'm worried I'm going to get a hernia or something. I feel bad because some of my clients booked their appointments 3 months ahead, but today was the most difficult day I've had in a while, I was so burnt out and hot and gross, I felt like I could either have a panic attack or just sob. I have a dr appt on Tues so I'm going to talk to her about the belly pain, but I can almost guarantee that over my workless weekend I will be pain-free, which will pretty much tell me it's work that is doing it to me. I'm sure with the amount of work I do I'll be physically fit enough to push a baby out, but if I get a hernia from working I guess that won't be happening LOL. Yes, I'm pushing myself too hard.

Here are a couple of pictures of my progression..

6.5 months
http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs196.snc1/6640_230256840270_739065270_7831828_5596427_n.jpg
8 months one week (in my pjs!)

There is very little room left for her. I am not as stretchable as I would like to be. Everyone thinks she is going to be tiny but I think she's going to be a surprise giant. I have developed a very good posture over the last month, because my goodness if I slouch at all, there are limbs banging themselves into my ribcage, and it is not the most pleasant feeling. Bed time is only good if it's her bed time too. Otherwise she can keep me up, kicking, hiccuping, etc.
Anywhos, still having a good pregnancy. Not many complaints here. I had heartburn for a couple of days last week (overeating -- bad me!) but other than that I haven't had any heartburn, and haven't had braxton hicks for quite a long time now. Just finally started feeling the heat a couple weeks ago. I have a really hard time sleeping even with the air conditioning on. It's not so bad if I have a shower right before bed though. My restless leg hasn't been bothering me too badly. My feet KILL me in the morning and certainly do while I'm working, but at the end of the day they're fine. Been craving garden carrots.. I must eat 50 of them a day, and we have SO many of them in the garden. I think I have to go pick some now actually. LOL.
Oh, wanted to ask. Do any of you girls crave smells? My goodness I crave smells!! I crave the smell of car tires and underground cellars. Weird huh?!

I had a great dr appt yesterday! Baby is in a perfect position! My blood pressure is awesome, I'm still growing at the perfect rate, baby's heartbeat is 140 (has been at 140 for every single appointment so far, strange!). We got to hear hiccups, which was neat. I got my strep B swab, but I've decided that I won't go on antibiotics even if I am positive. Been doing alot of research, and to me the risks with the antibiotics are far more dangerous than the risks (2 in 10,000) of the baby contracting step B.
We had our first prenatal classes lastnight. Didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know, but I'm glad that Kyle was there to listen to everything (especially when the nurse was going on and on about how "building a baby is a full day's work," so we shouldn't feel bad for being lazy all day hehehehe).

Anywhos, I'm in need of a shower, and then I'm going to start cleaning. I can feel nesting coming on and as soon as we get the carpet down in the baby's room (Saturday!!) I know it will hit me full blast so I might as well get ahead start.

Infant tylenol is always good to keep on hand. Mylicon gas drops are awesome, I would have gone nuts without it. The walmart brand works just as good as the name brand IMO.

Carmen, I was actually advised not to keep anything "just in case" as people tend to overmedicate when they have things right there. I would imagine anything you can safely and effectively treat at home can spare a couple minutes as you go to the store to retrieve the meds for the particular problem you're facing at the moment. I haven't gotten anything, yet, but that's kinda the mentality I'm going with.

Lyra is so beautiful! Your husband is great looking! He and Lyra could be a Baby Bjorn ad! ;) That hat is too cute. I didn't check out the video yet but I'm sure it's awesome! I'm just taking a wee break.

I gave Clara her first bath since getting home. Not a submerged in the water kind of bath, but just sort of top and tails. She did really well, I think because I kept her wrapped in a warm towel the entire time, and just exposed the part I was washing at the time. She's wrapped in a sleep sack now, hanging with Daddy. :)

The only thing I will say about that though is Ty's first fever was 103 degrees and in the middle of the night. In that case, you need to be giving tylenol ASAP to get that fever down. That's the only reason I suggested having tylenol on hand. And mylicon is so mild that they actually can't overdose. It just eases the gas pains (when colic hits, maybe around 6 weeks or so I think? it's a lifesaver).

Lyra is too cute. Love the tie dye - is it a dress? Lyra and daddy are cuties as mentioned by others but that scenery isn't too bad either!

Infant tylenol is good to have around. My doctor said no ibuprofen for a while but I forget til when. Stratton was fine after his shots - no fever. I prefer no medication so I didn't give tylenol after shots just in case even though the doc said I could.

Mylicon has not been a miracle worker for me. Fortunately Stratton is mellow but my first baby was not comforted by anything!

Thanks for the advice ladies. Yeah, I am afraid of the middle of the night fever and such. I also heard that the ibuprophen is a no no until they are older.
I think I will go ahead and get some infant tylanol and mylicon.
I hope to not use it but you never know.
Things always happen on the weekend and in the middle of the night. :o

Hey mommas, do your babies like thier baths?
Laura starts cooing as soon as she is in the baby tub!
She especially likes to have her hair washed and dried.
When the hair dryer starts, she gets all quiet and relaxed.
Laura seems to be a very laid back baby.
She cries only when she is hungry and when she is 'exposed' for the diaper change.

finn's mom
08-28-2009, 11:54 AM
Carmen, Laura sounds so sweet! It's awesome that she likes her bathtub! :) Clara hasn't been submerged in water, yet, but I did give her a bath and she only got upset when I changed her diaper. I had her wrapped in a warm towel the whole time, though, so she never got cold. I have heard that a lot of babies cry during bathtime simply because it's chilly!

Do all babies eventually get colic? I don't even really know what that is, or what can be done about it if they do get it! I know it stinks when they have it, but that's as far as my knowledge takes me. ;)

We went for our first family outing today! Went to Braum's for breakfast and Target for a couple groceries. We were out for just under two hours, and Clara and I both did really well. We kept her in her car seat for Braum's (David likes the seat, especially for quick trips inside), but I put her in the wrap for Target. I love that thing so much, I have already used it all around the house and it is awesome. She's in right now, and just finished nursing! I did laundry and dishes with her in it yesterday. :) Hands free is so much easier than one handed living, haha.

I seem to be healing well, but I have nothing to compare it to, really. One spot on my incision seems to be more easily agitated than any other, mostly when I have to get in and out of bed. Other than that, though, I'm not all that inconvenienced.

Clara sleeps in 3 to 4 hour blocks at night, which is great. I seem to be up with her for about an hour each time, though, but I think that's mostly because I really don't know what I'm doing yet. ;)

She is so much fun, we gave her tummy time a few times yesterday and she can hold her head up for about ten seconds so far. She doesn't set it back down softly, though, as the control isn't really there. But, she does hold her head up and move it around, looking at everything. It's pretty cool.

I had a little bit of a meltdown last night, because I couldn't get her to stop fussing and eat, but I knew she was hungry. She was just fiddling around, though, and not actually latching on. Luckily, it was a short meltdown and she finally ate. We both slept for four hours and I know I feel much better for it! :)

That's my long update!

I will be 9 months pregnant tomorrow.
Baby is becoming VERY active. It's like she's never asleep now. I started getting very sharp cervical pains lastnight. I am hoping she'll hold out a few more weeks (I still say she'll be born Oct 1st! lol). Most times I'm rather comfortable, and then suddenly I'll be very uncomfortable for several minutes. I think lately she likes to change positions. Walking is becoming an effort because sometimes it's only easy to walk with my legs spread apart...definatly have that waddle perfected.
Otherwise everything has been good here... we finally have carpet in the nursery and I just finished putting together the dresser. Still have to put together the crib and change table. :(
I'm starting to get very anxious to have this baby, I just want her OUT lol.

I can't believe you're in the ninth month already! It sure has come up quickly! Heck, I can't believe Clara is two weeks old!:love:

If you have windows, make sure to air out the nursery, new carpet is full of chemicals! I think it's actually formaldahyde (not sure I spelled that right!). Some of the crap they use to preserve or clean stuff is just crazy! I can't wait to see pictures of the room when it's done, I hope you'll share!

We took Clara in for her 2 week appointment today. She got a clean bill of health, and is growing really well! She's already an inch longer (22 inches now!). And, she's at 8 lbs 3 oz! She's a great eater! She got her heel pricked (just like when she was first born) and was really unhappy about it!

We took her and three of the dogs for a walk today, it was nice getting Finn out! He did pretty well walking next to the stroller! Good day so far. I even nursed her publicly for the first time at Target! It was a little awkward because she was hollering and fidgeting, but I managed to do it without showing any boob! I love my carrier, it is the best!

I have some news to share with everyone. I'm pregnant! I am 12 weeks and 2 days. Estimated due date is 3-17-10 by my last menstrual cycle. I had my first sonogram today and baby is measuring consistent with my due date. Heart rate was 159bpm and baby is 6.8 cm. I'm doing well myself, I have had no nausea or vomiting so far. I haven't gained any weight either so that's good as I know it's coming soon enough. Baby was moving around quite a bit so doing the measurements today took a bit to complete. It was strange seeing the baby move on the monitor and not yet being able to feel it move inside.

I am excited to be joining the ladies who will be having a baby in 2010. I'm not going to find out the gender, I want a surprise on delivery day. Hubby would want to know but I'm staying strong with my decision and he's okay with that. I have a feeling it'll be a boy since there are so many males in my family so why not add another one. Hubby thinks it'll be a girl.

Without further delay here is baby Bahmann also known as "roo" for right now. "Roo" as in kangaroo (since baby is in a pouch kind of). :)

Yes I've been leaving the window open, and the air purifier has been going non-stop. I'm so paranoid about the chemicals. :( We're getting the carpets cleaned next week, but hubby doesn't want to do the baby room because "it's new carpet," so I may have to fight with him a bit about it..He doesn't think chemicals are a big thing. I have a Bissell carpet cleaner, so I've been researching what to put in it to kill any chemicals (if I lose the battle with hubby LOL), but I can't find anything over the internet that everyone claims is the "best" for ridding of chemicals. Atleast we didn't use carpet adhesive/glue, we just stapled it down, so I don't have to worry about that..
Does anyone have any suggestions for what to put in the carpet cleaner? I always put a bit of vinegar in it, just to stop any mold growth that might start from the moisture. I was thinking of just using my natural laundry detergent, but I really want to find something that is well-known for getting rid of chemicals, and just can't think of anything. I have alot of all-natural dog shampoo too, with lots of essential oils.. I should look up the oils and see how good they are for this..

I hope everyone's pregnancies/ babies are doing great! I wanted to share a few pictures (well maybe more than a few...) because Lyra is now 7 months old! I can hardly believe it.

Lyra loves it when we go hiking in the mountains. These pictures are from Friday.

I, too, love the one with the doggies. Beenie looks like she is on guard, watching over the two "kids" in her care! How proud she looks, and Laura is obviously right at home with the doggies!

And the picture of you holding her is a great one, she looks so much like you! :) Only time will tell, of course, if she gets to keep those blue eyes! My youngest nephew's eyes didn't finish changing color until he was two, now he has dark brown eyes like his Daddy (Lady's Human).

Anyone have one or know of a good brand?

Lyra just started sleeping in her own room 2 nights ago (was in our room until then). She seems fine, but I worry when I can't see her. I'm probably crazy, but I worry about the weirdest things, especially when she isn't making any noise so I can't hear her on the regular monitor. And barging into her room during the night isn't helping my sleep or hers!

Thanks! :)

I live in a very small house, and I am a very light sleeper. I did not use a video monitor and frankly, the baby monitor was a huge distraction to my sleep. Huge. J didn't sleep through the night until 14 or 15 months. I heard every night he cried. :) Or whimpered. :) I responded. :)

At 7 months, I would probably not advise a baby monitor.

Lyra started sleeping through the night on her own about a month ago (I didn't do anything- the first night I thought it was a fluke, but she's been sleeping from about 8 pm to 4-6 am pretty consistently). I can't hear her crying without the monitor at night because of the window fan, and I can't leave the door open or the cats would jump in her crib. I have been waking up though, not from the noise through the monitor, but from the lack of noise from the monitor. :D When I can't hear her (because she's asleep and not crying) or see her, I'm convinced that there's something wrong...so I think the video monitor would help me sleep rather than keep me up.

We have Clara in a co-sleeper, so I have no use for a monitor at this point, so I don't know which brand is best. Clara sleeps through the night inconsistently already, which is odd, but we're not complaining. We've had several nights that she's slept from 10 or 11 to around 6 or 7. If she wasn't eating so well and gaining so much weight, I'd wake her up at night to feed her. But, I'm not at this point! I wake her during the day, but not for nighttime feedings.

Good luck finding a monitor. When you do find one, let us know how it is. I'm sure at some point, I'll probably want one. We don't have to close her door, though, so we might not.

Have you considered a crib tent? J always slept with a crib tent on his crib, cats can't get in, and he couldn't get out, well, until he was about 2 anyhow. I had a lot of comfort in knowing I could keep the door open, and not worry about the cats.

Great pictures of Laura. :) Do you think her eyes will stay blue?

I'll be 38 weeks on Saturday. The pain I was having in my belly while working has come back. Dr is not sure what it is -- could be a hernia, could be placental abruption.. I guess at this point we don't worry much because baby is still active and growing, and if it's a hernia there is nothing we can do right now anyways.

Question -- how did all of you feel about getting checked for dilation? I don't understand why my dr wants to check me once a week. She did it again yesterday and I actually told her to stop, it was too much, it hurts, it felt like I was tearing, and I'm afraid it will induce me. What difference does it really make if I'm dilated? I'm 38 weeks, obviously it's bound to happen any time now, and frankly I don't need someone poking around down there to tell me just how far along the dilation is.. I simply don't care!! lol. So I think I'm just going to refuse it from now on.. Either way, I'm not dilated yet.

Otherwise things have been okay. Sleep has gotten ALOT better. Belly is growing. I've gained about 20-22 pounds. Everyone keeps telling me I'll have a 5-7 pound baby because I'm so small, but dr still says she's expecting an 8 and a half pound baby, maybe more, based on my growth so far. It's common in my family to have 10-12 pound babies and not grow very much or gain much weight. I have my mom's body more than anyone else's, and my brother was 9.15, and she only gained 28 pounds and wasn't very large (though I carry higher and more outfront). So who knows. I definatly expect in the 8 pound range though. I wish she would drop already, breathing is so diffcult.

Thanks! I'm not sure but we are hoping. So far they seem to be the same color as my husbands so you never know...

Question -- how did all of you feel about getting checked for dilation?

Not sure why they are checking you so much.... You need to ask if there is a medical reason for them to do so. Believe it or not I was never checked. The only time they needed to go 'down there' was when they did the strep B test swab and that was it. They didn't know 100% if I was going to have a C-section until a few days before so they could have checked me for dilation...

I dunno, if you are uncomfortable then tell them you'd prefer not to be checked unless they are checking if you are in labor or something.

Don't be shy, that's the one thing I can tell you. I wish I was a little more firm with some stuff but hindsight is 20/20. If I had insisted they bring me the baby as soon as she was born and that they not give her formula I wouldn't have had such a difficult time with the breastfeeding... she never wanted to latch on so now, I am stuck pumping 4 - 5 times a day and feeding it to her with a bottle.

I hadn't thought about it before but I could see the cats thinking it was a new toy made for them to try out. They have been sleeping in the crib for nearly a year (I think it was last October that we bought it and set it up), so they somewhat rightfully think of it as "theirs." They are also not shy about sharing with Lyra if need be, even though she delights in trying to grab them. I could definitely see Desmond trying to jump on a crib tent, repeatedly, with Lyra in it, even if he fell off a few times....:p

And anyway I made the mistake of mentioning a video monitor to my husband who is now convinced we should get a webcam instead. In the mean time, I have Lyra back in my bedroom.

I ended up being induced 4 weeks before Lyra's due date so I was never checked prior to then (though I was actually already 3 cm dilated), but I will tell you being continuously checked was more painful than most of the labor!

I hope your last few weeks of pregnancy go well, and I can't wait to hear the news that your baby is here! :)

The crib tent that I had would easily hold 25 pounds. :) It is the coolest contraption, really. The thing wouldn't bend/break. Once J turned 2, he slept in a bed. Of course, at that age, only 1 cat wanted to be anywhere near him, LOL...now he has a bedful of cats at times. Gives me more leg room!

Thanks guys! :) Dr says my belly should shrink back up no problem -- I hope so!

I got the swine flu the other day, and I think today is my last "kinda" sick day. I'm feeling pretty good actually. Hubby got it alot worse than I did, but I've been feeling not too bad, even took the dogs out to the dog beach this morning. It's more annoying than anything -- I HATE not being able to taste my food!! LOL. The infectious disease specialist wanted me on antivirals right away because I'm "high-risk" but I never did go on them. I knew it wouldn't be hard to fight off myself, and they don't even know what the drugs would do to the baby. I've just been eating well (lots of spicy stuff) and taking it easy-- lots of baths, lots of hot tea, and lots of rest.

Now, I feel the need to vent a bit. Does anyone else really dislike any of their parents in law? My MIL is driving me crazy. She's SO opinionated. I want to move away so I never have to see her or hear what she has to say, and I NEVER want her watching my baby -- she certainly wouldn't be sober and she'd chainsmoke around her. When her daughter had a baby, she took all of his soothers and cut the ends off of them. She's already TOLD me not to use soothers. Um, I'll do whatever I want, thank you.
She got all angry the other day, like "why would you be around sick people when you're pregnant?! You can't do that when you have a baby!" Uhh I wasn't around any sick people. It's freakin' airborne, I could've caught it anywhere, everyone has the swine flu right now (in my city).
When I first got pregnant she absolutely was CONVINCED that I was a month behind what they said I was. "You're not big enough, they counted it wrong, they gave you the wrong date." I counted the days with her on the calendar. "Well they aren't right, you can't be this far along, you're too small." I know the TWO days I had sex that month (I got a bladder infection soon after and stopped having sex until my treatment was over, too uncomfortable), and I am actually FARTHER ALONG than they think I am.
And now she is bugging us about the drugs. She WANTS me to get the epidural -- she is like pushing it. WHY? Why does it make a difference to her? But you know what -- I'm glad!! Because I want a natural birth so bad, and her wanting me to use drugs is going to deter me from using them, no matter how much pain I'm in. I'd rather be in excrutiating pain than give her the satisfaction of knowing that I "gave up" (her words) like she wants me to.
She also argued with Kyle about the types of drugs they use. I've read every book and been to prenatal classes, I know they can give you narcotics in the early stages of labor. She refuses to believe us -- they would never give you demerol, morphine, etc -- she worked at the hospital for years, so of course she knows. She even argued with him about smoking during pregnancy. She chainsmoked during all of her pregnancies, and when my hubby came out with asthma she didn't think anything of it. Now she tells us "your baby could get asthma because you had it when you were young." We told her that prenatal smoking would have caused that, and she didn't believe us. She still smokes around me constantly and has no respect for me. I could never leave my baby alone with her because she would smoke right in front of her (and drink...and drink..).
God I really hope she doesn't come visit us all the time when we have the baby. My mom listens to everything I have to say, and she never TELLs me to do anything -- she can suggest things from her own experiences, but she respects whatever I have to say, and she never makes it sound like her word is gold and it can only be done her way. Apparently my MIL is the only right one.
Ahh.. just needed to vent. I am so afraid that Kyle is going to want her to babysit one day, and when I say no he's going to think I'm a complete cow. I'm afraid when I say no that he'll turn it around and make it so MY mom can't babysit. So frustrating!

I'm sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. The smoking and drinking would really bother me, too. I don't care who it is- I wouldn't want them smoking around my baby!

My in-laws and I have always gotten along, but my MIL is a bit more annoying to me now, since she often has unsolicited (if good intentioned) advice and she is, of course, always right. I just smile and nod and do things my way. It really isn't a problem because they live 1,000 miles away.

So sorry about your MIL - have you talked to Kyle about her? Does he know how you feel? It might be good to talk before you have the baby about all of this. I would make it a rule - no smoking around the baby. If you don't like it, too bad. That is something that I am very strict about.

My MIL drove me crazy after I had Ty. Everything I did was wrong. I understand that she meant well and was trying to help...but it seemed like she thought I was an idiot who couldn't handle a baby. Finally I told my husband that I didn't even want to go to see her anymore. He had a talk with her, and she started getting better. Now she is much better - she still makes the occasional comment but I have learned to just smile and nod.

Question:
When do I switch from #1 nipples to the next size?

We switched to #2 when it seemed like Ty was getting frustrated with getting the milk out of the nipple. I don't remember how old he was though. I tried out the #2 and he seemed happier. You could always try it and see how it goes. We only used the #3s for bottles with a little cereal added when he was a little older.

I think Kyle feels the way I do for the most part -- he's pretty much told his mom to shut up, and after getting off the phone with her he'll say stuff like "god she drives me crazy sometimes, she just won't shut up." But I don't think the smoking and drinking thing bothers him. A friend was over the other day and says "I guess you can't really have your mom babysit huh?" And he says "why not?" She says "because she'll probably be drinking." And he said "Oh Hell, you think she wasn't drinking when me and my sisters were growing up? She can babysit." I was like oooh god. I think I will avoid the whole issue until it actually arises.. try to avoid the situation, if I know we have to go somewhere I'll quickly make arrangements with someone else, or say that so-and-so really wants to watch the baby this time.. I know I can't avoid it forever but I really don't want to get in a fight with him, and I really don't want him to become childish and say "well then YOUR mom can't babysit" or something.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who has had issues. I think it's probably a common thing. You know one other thing that bugs me? She keeps saying how it's too bad Kyle's sister doesn't live here because I'll need help. Guess I'm incompetent, and Kyle won't be able to help me... I need someone to actually come LIVE with us!
You know, I used to LOVE going to my grandma and papa's house when I was a kid. They made good food, I always got ice cream for dessert, they would take me out to Dairy Queen, take me to watch parades or other fun events.. To be honest I don't think my baby will ever get to have fun with Kyle's mom. Her other grandchild is afraid of her.
I can't WAIT to move away.....

Wolfsoul, I definitely think it would be in your family's best interest if you discussed how you felt about your mother in law babysitting before baby arrives. Emotions will probably run higher once baby is home and waiting until it comes up will likely make it more of an emotional fight, and much more stressful.

Sorry to hear about your MIL problems.
Mine can drive me nuts but for the most part I tollerate her.
I guess she means well.

Question:
When do I switch from #1 nipples to the next size?

I think the usual is around 6 months, but if she starts getting frustrated with it, you can switch sooner. Our #1 size are wearing out, but we aren't quite ready to switch yet. I'm trying to make the ones we have hold out instead of buying new ones to use for a month.

I think Kyle feels the way I do for the most part -- he's pretty much told his mom to shut up, and after getting off the phone with her he'll say stuff like "god she drives me crazy sometimes, she just won't shut up." But I don't think the smoking and drinking thing bothers him. A friend was over the other day and says "I guess you can't really have your mom babysit huh?" And he says "why not?" I agree that it would be a good idea to discuss this as soon as you can, before your baby is here. Once you have it resolved, you will feel better. You could say you are concerned about the smoking/drinking. If you would feel comfortable doing so, you could suggest that if his mom watches the baby it be at your place so she wouldn't be allowed to smoke or drink...or if that still makes you uncomfortable I would just say you don't feel comfortable having her babysit by herself.

Sure but it's not really necessary. I bought a set that came with 3 sizes of nipples. I think she's still ok with the size 1. I was just curious as to when I was supposed to change from one to another. :)

I'm not sure about the bottles...maybe just switch it when Laura seems like she's ready to eat faster or is frustrated because she's not getting food fast enough.

Here's another question for everyone- where are you going to get your baby's winter coat?? (Though maybe I am asking the wrong crowd because you all live in the south!)

I am just not impressed with what I have seen- all the coats seem flimsy and not very warm. We don't get really cold weather here in Denver much, but she will certainly need a warm coat in December and January, especially after dark! Any ideas?

That's an easy one - check the second-hand stores, Goodwill, etc.. Babies grow so fast that they outgrow things like coats long before they put much wear into 'em. And you'll likely find more variety there than department stores as well!

MIL just HAVE to be so nosey... and aLWAYS right:rolleyes:..lol

just like Pembroke said.. listen, thank for advice.. but do as you want... what might have worked for them doesnīt necesarily will work for you...

about the drinking/smoking... my mom smokes.. and while I stayed at her house right after birth.. I forbid her to smoke around us.. and we were at her house... I said.. you smoke.. you donīt get to get near any of us... and she commited... she did smoked outside.. but not near us.. not one day...

talk to Kyle.. Iīm sure heīll understand and take your side.. doesnīt matter if sheīs her mom.. itīs whats best for HIS baby whatīs more important...and if you donīt feel comfortable.. no one can make you do what you donīt want...

and the best:rolleyes: part is yet to come... if you feed her this, that, if you make her sleep in this or that way, if you burp her right, if the clothes, if the crib, if the bath, if the diapers, if the cream, if if if.. everything you do is wrong... and it doesnīt matter if they did it the exact same way... ok I guess I projected myself here.. lol.. but itīs true...

I still got her advice even when not living together.. glad we are now half country away..lol

and Carmen: it usually is at 6mo. or when she wants to eat faster.. but as Cataholic said you can always puncture a hole in the smaller nipples...

oh.. and i read you canīf make her BF because she was on a bottle since day one.. I BF and bottled also... you may try squeezing a bit to make milk come out and get her to latch while pouring milk.. very soon sheīll get the idea...it might take a while but Iīm sure she will

We're in the south, but when Mary Joyce was a baby, I found a decent winter coat at Old Navy. We lived in GA at the time. In FL, we made do with mid-range jackets last year because it never gets that terribly cold.

Thanks guys, I wish I could talk to Kyle about it now but it will just put us in a huge fight. When I say anything about it, it's like he gets very offended -- as if I'm saying that he could have turned out better if it weren't for his mom doing all of the things I don't want her to do in front of our baby -- it really makes him angry, so I just let him get mad at her when he wants but otherwise I never say anything, or he'll turn it right back around on me. I'm the same with people I love, I guess.
We're *supposed* to move next year, which means she would nevr have to babysit.. so I'll go on the chance that we're sticking with that plan (I HOPE HOPE we are).
Oh, I forgot to mention one thing -- she started her babies off on pablum as SOON as they were born. She told me I should just start feeding the baby food right away because milk isn't enough!! Apparently that is why babies cry so much at night..because they are hungry and want food, not milk. So sure.
When the time comes (which I'm hoping it won't), that is when we'll have to have the discussion. But right now we both have way too much stress on our plates (he just started his new job and I'm having a baby next week!!) to get into such a big fight (trust me, there is no "discussion" with him!! lol). Because he knows his mom won't compromise for us, so it would have to be a no-babysit basis rather than "she can't do this while babysitting," and I know if he told me MY mom couldn't babysit, I'd be livid. So I'll just take it as it goes. Since she lives farther away than most of our other "babysitters" and since we're supposed to move next year anyways, hoepfully we can just avoid the situation altogether.
Btw -- when I was 10 weeks old my grandparents fed me mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce (it was Christmas). My mom was SO MAD! LOL

When Ty was younger, I liked the one piece coats which I think are more like snowsuits. Here are a few pictures

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b333/Jen0429/Ty3.jpg

This year I have a coat and pant suit that like a 2 piece snowsuit and I just plan on wearing the coat part on him as his regular winter coat. We got that at Pennys. I agree with you, a lot of the coats out are too light for the winter. Maybe the stores will come out with heavier coats later in the fall.

Ty is so cute!! Why don't we get to see more pictures of him?? He must be getting so big!

I'm pretty sure I want to get a one-piece coat for Lyra because it's already getting hard to dress her sometimes. She likes to pull things on and off her head while I am trying to change her, and a big snowsuit would be too hard every time we go out. I'll check Penny's though!

FWIW- the doctor told us to avoid those winter type coats while J was in a carseat. The puffiness of the coat essentially ruins the safety factor of the carseat in the event of a crash.

They make these totally wonderful carseat liner/covers nowadays. The baby gets zippered in there. I forget what they are called, but, I think LL Bean makes them.

For walks, I went with the one piece cloth type things, and never did the 'snowsuit' type thing at all. J wasn't out in the cold long enough, and they just aren't bendable enough for me. J would look and act like he was a giant pepperidge farm gingerbread man cookie- KWIM?

Now, at 5, he does have ski pants with a bib.

I don't think baby wants to hold in much longer. She's been very active this last week, and I started having some painless contractions yesterday. They weren't uncomfortable at first, in fact I barely noticed them unless I felt my belly; But as the day went on into night, they started to get uncomfortable, sometimes a bit painful. Before I went to bed lastnight I noticed my belly had completely changed shape -- instead of oval, I am VERY round -- she is farther out front, but also farther out my sides, and she appears higher. I have a beachball belly. She's been extremely active all day -- in fact she's worrying me because she keeps doing summersualts. She's turned herself twice already in the last hour that I've been up, it's like she can't make up her mind -- please please just be head down when the time comes..
It feels like something is pushing down hard on my cervix (makes me walk like I've been horseback riding lol) and I keep getting this "fluttering" feeling, like a bunch of butterflies batting away inside, down fairly low. And the way she is moving around inside I'm finding myself uncomfortable and sometimes in pain.
I don't think she'll be in there much longer. I couldn't go to the dr on tues because I caught the swine flu last week, but I have an appt tomorrow and we'll see what she says. They think I'm due on the 3rd (9 days from now), but my own calculations put me on the 28th (4 days from now)..so it will certainly be any time now..

As the day went on they slowly tapered off to every twenty minutes apart... every fourty minutes apart.. less uncomfortable.. and then by night they were gone. Only had a few yesterday, and none today. My belly is growing and changing shape. Very round now.

I have to walk hunched over with my legs spread out. Walking normally is painful. And I swear she grew overnight -- there's just no room left.
Should be any time now. We have a big tally going on on FB as to when she'll be born and how much she'll weigh. My guess is Oct 1st, 8 lb 7 oz. :)

Need help/advice on slings or carriers.
Since I'm flying out in a few weeks I thought it would be a good idea to purchase or borrow a sling/carrier for the trip that way I can be hands free when I need to be.
What experience do you have with them? What brand was good or crappy?
How much should I be expected to pay? Are they ok/comfy for the baby?
Where do I buy one?

PC- your daughter is adorable. I noticed the pic of her sitting up in her crib, and couldn't remember if you were the one that I posted the crib tent idea to. You are. Doesn't your crib go lower than that? I thought once babies began sitting up on their own that you were supposed to lower the crib to its lowest setting. It might be when they start pulling up/standing up, not sitting, LOL, it has been a while. But, you might want to double check that. If she can get to the rail on her own, with her top heavy head (ALL babies are top heavy...not saying she has a big head at all!!), she might go over. Ouch.

We have a Baby Bjorn. I love it (and so does Lyra)! I flew with Lyra when she was 2 months old, and she slept in it from the time we got in the airport till we got to the gate (which was good because the security line was really long). She still fits into the Baby Bjorn now, I think she will probably fit for another few months at least. She really likes to be in it, and prefers it over her stroller. I think they cost around $80, which is kind of expensive, but you can probably pick one up used. I have also heard great things about Ergo Baby carriers- I am thinking of getting one for when Lyra outgrows her other carrier. You can use these as front or back carriers.

Yes the crib goes lower. Lyra cannot actually get into a sitting position independently yet. I was planning on lowering the crib when she could do so, but maybe I should do it before she can. I looked around online at crib tents but decided it would still be too disruptive to her sleep to have the door open- one of the pets would find a way to wake her (she used to be able to sleep through anything, but unfortunately she doesn't anymore)! My husband found a security camera on sale that we hooked up so I can see and hear her at night (I know that sounds weird...maybe it is! But I feel better knowing I can see her at night)- it hooks up to a little tv in my room.

Carmen, looks like a cute one! We have a baby bjorn that we haven't tried out, yet, but I also kept the receipt in case it was uncomfortable or too difficult. The Baby K'Tan we have can be manipulated into 8 positions, including the front and back carrier positions for when baby has more head control, so I may just use that one exclusively, even if David uses the Bjorn. Still no baby for me... I have been guessing from the beginning that she'd be born tomorrow, but I honestly don't feel much different, other than baby's movement really hurts me -- I think because it's such a tight space for her now. So I'm not sure it will be tomorrow, even though I did lose my mucous plug on Sunday.

Did any of you feel really "different" before you went into labor? Or was it like any other normal day, and it just suddenly happened? I guess I just keep expecting that I will "sense" when the time is near, but I assume that probably won't happen. I know my friend was in Shoppers Drugmart and her water broke, she had no idea that was going to happen. And my grandma said she was standing on the side of the road, waiting for her ride after shopping -- it was winter time and she was wearing a skirt and boots -- she said her water broke and filled her boots -- she didn't feel a thing before that.
Did any of you just "know?" I thought it would be neat if my guess came true and I have her tomorrow...

And I keep dreaming I'm having a boy. Now I'm worried the ultrasound technician was wrong. Most of my dreams lately have been coming true..

Oh, and I know that a slight increase in blood pressure is a sign of early labor -- but my blood pressure went waaay up today. I was consistently 120/70 for my entire pregnancy up until about 37 weeks, and then it dropped to 120/60. I checked myself twice today -- the first time I was 146/74, and secodn time I was 145/83. This is highly unusual for me, I've had VERY consistent and really good low blood pressure throughout my entire pregnancy, my dr has been very happy with me. I just started having blurred vision in my left eye today that coems and goes -- I know vision problems can be associated with high blood pressure. I wonder if something is changing. I have a dr appt tomorrow so we'll see what she says.

Did anyone have a similar raise in blood pressure when their time was close?

I didn't feel any differently the day we went in to be induced. I didn't get the experience of "going into labor", so I can't really say on that. But, Clara hadn't dropped and I didn't dilate or anything, so maybe those things happening would be noticeable.

She looks just like Kyle. She has my lips and my ears, and that's about it. Alot more hair than we thought she'd have (we were both nearly bald), and it's quite dark -- both of us were very blonde, and even now we both have ash coloured dark blonde/light brown hair (other than mine is still faded dyed dark), so I expect Tyler's will change.
She's been very good. The nurses were worried because she didn't want to eat less than every 5-6 hours. They checked her blood sugar though and said it was PERFECT, and she wasn't the least bit jaundiced so they weren't concerned. Now she's on an every 2-3 hour schedule. My milk came in early (what a messy experience!!! LOL) and that's when she started feeding more.
I can't believe how SKINNY I am! I'm way thinner than I was before I concieved. I feel much better than the first two days. I did tear, so I have stitches now, and man are they ever a pain in the butt (no pun intended), but I had lost a great deal of blood so I couldn't move around much -- only to go to the bathroom or have an epsom salt bath. I had such terrible vertigo and vision problems and just felt really weak in general. I feel much better though, I just have to take it easy or my symptoms slowly come back. I went grocery shopping yesterday and nearly fell over LOL. Darn those large super Wal-Marts and how you have to walk ten miles to find anything....

I'll post some pictures later -- like I said, one-hand typing! Hard to nurse and copy/paste URLs at the same time... :)

Congratulations, and welcome to the world little Tyler Paige! You she a first name with a very nice girl who is our neighbor, we have watched her grow up, and she learned from Miss Hoppy how to treat a bunny!

Awww, so many cute baby pictures!!

Congratulations wolfsoul, Tyler is just lovely. She does look like she is a few weeks old already! She's very cute. :)

Clara is really holding her head up well! What color are her eyes? The photo is a bit dark, but they look like they are either dark blue or brown. She is such a pretty baby.

I really like the picture of Malcom smiling. He has a nice smile and a cute dimple!

Malcom has gorgeous eyes! Does he have a dimple in his chin? David has a cleft chin, and we think Clara might have that, too! :)

Jill, I'm not really sure what to tell you about Clara's eyes, except that they're dark! It's really hard to tell right now, and we have many different colors in our families...ranging from sky blue (my mother's dad) to green and brown hazels (our moms and david's sister) to dark brown (me and my brothers and our dad). David's got blue/grey/green eyes, they change a lot!

Cool! I love those! You can't really see David's because he keeps a goatee, but seems like all the men on his dad's side have them. Not sure if there've been any girls with one, though! And, we're not 100% sure if Clara has one, but sometimes it seems like she does! I notice them all the time on people (men and women) now that my daughter might have one!

I have the chin dimple, that I certainly inherited from my Dad! I always tell people - "well, at least I'm a girl, so mine doesn't have whiskers growing out of it like dad's does!"

Tyler is SO pretty, she totally looks like she's about 3-4 weeks old haha. Vince looked like a baby birdy when he was born, he and Quinn were teeny things, at just 6 pounds 4 ounces (they were both the exact same weight when born). Yep labor hurts hehe. I can't imagine delivering such a large baby. Good job, mom! When I had Quinn, I had an epidural and it completely numbed everything. I felt nothing at all. Completely painless (except the process of getting the epidural, which was rather scary and certainlly not painless) but with Vince, I had 3 epidurals and none of them took, so he was born naturally (against my choice). It hurts like heck but then it's over and you have this stunning miracle to show for it.

Goodness is Malcom so handsome! I LOVE his little dimples! Totally adorable! And Clara, you are a lovely little angel! You look so strong holding up your head...good girl :)

Hugs and kisses to all the new PT babies!

Aw that is a cute pic of Clara, and wow Malcom is getting big. :)

Thanks for the compliments and congrats! :) Yes she doesn't have that newborn look -- none of the babies in my family do, but most of the babies in my family are much bigger than Tyler even.

The health nurse came by today -- she has gained 3 ounces since Monday! :D I'm so happy because her nursing schedule is all over the place and she never feeds for as long as they say babies should. No jaundice either! She seems like a nice strong healthy baby. She's been able to lift her head since day 1 -- if you give her tummy time on your belly she'll lift her head up and look around. And she has rolled from her back to her side three times already that I've noticed. Now we really have to work on those sleepless nights...;)

Just a little update on me. I'm in my 17th week and I have been feeling the baby move for about a week and a half. No fluttering though but rather little pokes or maybe they are kicks. Either way it's movement of some sort. My 20 week appointment with ultrasound is 10-30. If we were finding out the sex this would be the appointment, we're sticking to our guns and not finding out. It's really helping me save on buying every cute outfit I see. :D

Oh, I love Lyra! She looks so so happy! I hope Clara enjoys life as much as your little beauty does. :) First of all, where did you get her hat? Have you asked you that already? I would love to have one of them for Clara!

Second...oatmeal has never looked so much fun! At least you don't have to worry about cleaning dishes. ;) Just a girl and her tray...well maybe the floor, too...or do the pets take care of that for you?

Third...you look so young! How old are you? (You don't have to answer, I'm just curious.) I don't know how old I thought you were, but for some reason I was surprised to see you! I can see why Lyra is so cute, her parents both are!

Anyway, I'm done drooling over your entire family. I'm off to love on mine. :)

Oh, and I think my mother decided for us what Clara will be calling her and my dad! Grammy and Grampy! Apparently that's what my dad called his grandparents, and I LOVE it!

You're welcome and thank YOU. :) You do look younger in your pictures, but I think I must have thought you were older than that...maybe closer to my age? I dunno. ;) I get carded when I have my hair in two ponytails, even if it's not colored...and I get carded a lot more often when my hair is colored (early grey hair is in my genes!). We're having lots of fun with her, she's just a joy. Sleeps wonderfully, makes adorable noises, and loves to interact (when she's awake which is rare!! LOL). She's like super-baby, day 2 she rolled onto her side, and day 5 she rolled onto her belly (she was angry at the time LOL). She's only rolled onto her belly once since but continues to roll onto her side any time she's placed on her back. She has amazing neck strength as well. I'm thinking about selling some baby items that Lyra no longer uses. (She's only 8 months old and there is already a lot!) I'm not sure if we will ever have another child or not, and it seems a little silly to keep stuff that will take up a bunch of room for something we may never need again. I will keep a few items for keepsakes and a few things that are harder to replace just in case...but otherwise, it's going! I'm hoping to make enough money to pay for the new carseat I just bought Lyra... :)

How long do you plan / did you hang on to your babies' things?

We kept a lot of Mary Joyce's things for Katherine, and kept those things of Katherine's that were gender-neutral for Malcom. We are done having kids at this point, and we're planning a yard sale after the first of the year, so we will probably get rid of everything he has outgrown by then at that time.

Well, I managed to sell the bassinet and a bunch of Lyra's old clothes that no longer fit. I sold the clothes for $0.50 and $1 each, and still managed to make $40 on them (and there are still quite a few left)! I guess Lyra has a lot. :o

I listed things on craigslist but there are so many new ads that they get pushed down really fast. I might have to hold a garage sale next weekend.

Tyler looks very cute and cozy in that picture. :)

I had a question about bedtime. Lyra has started taking only 2 naps a day (for about 30-45 min each), and as a result she wants to go to bed earlier. She has been getting to sleep around 6:30-6:45 and sleeping till 5 or 6 in the morning. Since 5 am is a bit early for me (I typically go to bed around 10:00), I'd like her to stay up a bit later in the hopes she will sleep a little later. Also, in November we go back to standard time which means it'll be like her going to bed at 5:30!

Any suggestions on how to change her bedtime? Should I try to get her to nap later in the afternoon? I don't want to keep her up when she's tired too long, or she gets really super cranky then weirdly hyper...

Thanks in advance! :)

PC- Jones was a difficult sleeper- from birth. It was well into the 2nd year before I could count on a consistent sleep through the night. There were no explanations and I feel as if I tried everything under the sun (short of drugs, LOL). He is, and has always been, a 10 hour sleeper. So, if he was napping during the day? He slept less at night. He gave up naps at 2. Thankfully, at 5, I can tell you that 90% of the time, he is a a great sleeper- but that other 10% can be tough.

So, I tell you all this as a prelude to MY advice- no training/experience other than motherhood. The thing that worked best for Jones was strict adherence to a routine. No deviations, ever. And, yeah, that was a super big pain in the butt for us. But, a bad night's sleep made it terrible for us for 2 days sometimes. No naps after 3 pm. Even if that meant waking him up. Earlier to bed (within reason) meant longer sleeps in the am. This seems so contrary to thought. Jones did not ever sleep in longer in the am when I moved his bedtime back. He went to bed at 7 pm for the longest time. And, if I put him to bed at 9? He still woke at 5. It just meant he slept less over night. 5 seemed his wake up time for months. I remember thinking this was it for us- sleepwise.

One of the things I also learned is that a baby's sleep history/pattern is so ever changing. What works today, now, a year ago, etc., might not even matter a month later, as the whole cycle has changed. I remember being so flipping anxious about time changes (when you have a child that doesn't sleep through the night for 14-16 months, these are anxious times). We survived them, and it did alter the pattern. Slowly we moved back to where we had been.

I remember everyone telling me, "wait until he starts walking", "wait until he is in preschool", "wait until he starts playing outside", all these events were to help him sleep. Just yesterday, Jones was playing with another kid his age and they were wrestling around like crazy outside. The other mom said, "they will sleep well tonight". Yeah? Jones was up til 915, as I laid there trying to not fall asleep before he did. He woke up sunny and fresh at 730am. If he sleeps 12 hours (and it does happen from time to time), I get anxious- thinking there must be something wrong with him.

And, not everyone has a child so sensitive to sleep events. LOL. In the last 60 days, 3 days of 3-5 am wake ups are still fresh in my mind. He is a great child, but a horrible sleeper. :)

So, what am I saying? That all the information in the world could be forthcoming, and none of it helpful in adjusting your daughter's sleep schedule.

Great pictures! Love the Chinese Tigger snowsuit. Did you notice the split pants?

Thanks! :)

Yeah, my friend said that many babies there don't wear diapers, and when they need to go the parents just kind of hold them away from their body and let them pee in the street. I have to say, I have a hard time picturing it, especially in cold weather!

I had a sneaking suspicion that someone would say this! I have noticed that Lyra tends to wake up about the same time no matter when she gets to sleep. I do feel really lucky that she sleeps well overall, though, but I'm a bit worried about the time change.

My nephew (who is 8) sounds just like your son with sleep. He stayed the night at our house last weekend and woke up at 4:30 am to play with the pets. Maybe your son is just too curious and interested in the world to want to sleep too long. :)

I used to take my hair dryer down to the basement to dry my hair...I would go sit on my porch to talk on the phone during naps/or read on the couch, just in case he awoke. LOL, now it is way better. But, he still sleeps lighter and less than most kids I know. It just gives us more time to snuggle, I guess. :)

Hey, Jill! Cute tiger outfit, Lyra looks like she enjoyed the snow!

As for the sleep problem, I don't have any personal advice for you, but I will recommend a book that several mothers I know swear by! It's called "healthy sleep habits, happy child" and it has really helped me a lot. I have only had a handful of problem nights with Clara, but the days were always tough until I got this book and started to understand her "drowsy cues." It's been a life saver! Definitely worth reading!

Good luck, no matter what you choose to do!

Totally agree! Ty has never been a great sleeper either, although he is much better lately. He was always much worse with sleeping as he learned new things...like when he started to crawl, he didn't sleep for about a week! He just wants to practice his new skills. And I don't even want to mention teething! I tried many many things and bought all kinds of books. Some things worked, some didn't. Some things worked for a little while and then for some reason, not anymore. And just as Johanna said, their sleep patterns change constantly. I can't tell you how many times I thought we had it down, only to change. I have learned that I have to adapt to Ty more so than him adapting to me. Good luck!

Lady's Human's daughter, my beloved niece, was ever the early waker. She knew what the shape of a seven was long before she really understood the concept of numbers and counting. When that shape appeared on her clock, she was allowed to get out of bed, even if she woke at 5:30 a.m.! She'd just play with her stuffed animals or storybooks, and NOT make noise!

Lyra is insanely adorable.

Here are a couple pics of my 2009 boy. These were taken with my cell phone so they are not great quality. I am in love with my cell phone and have not gone out without it since I got it, so my camera is getting less love from me lately.

It's not easy getting a photo of him smiling without his tongue sticking out. His tongue is his BFF. He just turned 7 months old on Oct. 15th and ON his 7 month B-day, he cut his first tooth, and yesterday his second tooth just started to cut. He's a great baby :)

What a cutie Vinnie is! It's funny how with some baby boys, you cannot really tell gender (my big brother was one, everywhere my mother went with him, she was told what a pretty girl he was!) but Vinnie already looks very much the little boy! And I of course love the chin dent, but I may be a tad biased! Love the hat, too!

When you say "3 months", which way do you use? Do you go with the date she was born? Like Clara was born on the August 21st...some say that makes her three months old on November 21st. Others say the average month is four weeks, and when she's 12 weeks old, she's 3 months. I've heard both ways! :)

Gotcha! So you would say two months and two weeks instead of 12 weeks? I guess I'm just lazy, haha. ;) It's quicker to say 12 weeks (I just realized I miscounted, should have been saying **11** weeks! ;) However you say it, time is flying by!

Clara's starting to rub her eyes when she gets sleepy, it's very cute. :)

Congratulations, Kari, I've been hoping for this news from you! David's birthday is May 14th, so that's cool that you're due on the 15th! My mom's birthday is the 20th, May's a good month!

Kari - congrats!! Are you wanting a littel girl so Nathan has a sister?

It's funny, I really wanted another boy with my last pregnancy (I miscarried), I could see myself with a houseful of boys. All of the sudden though I now do want a girl. I think part of it is because my SIL is pregnant, due in March, with a girl, and I think it'd be really fun to have 2 girl cousins so close in age. Plus everyone in our family is hoping for a girl. They've all gotten in my head. :)
