My mom sent me this message. Please keep our little baby dog in your thoughts. :(

Hi! I had an awful night. When we finally sat down to watch that movie about 10 I pulled Kyra out of her bed to cuddle and she was acting sick. weak, shaky and felt like she had a fever and I though maybe she had what Micki had a few day's ago, then about 11 she stretched out and I saw something on her neck and turned on the light and she had a big gash in her neck. strangley it wasn't bleeding bad but it was very deep. I thought she was going to die last night. I took her to Dr Main this morning and she needed stiches inside and out, it just missed main artery and other vital things, he said she is lucky it could have killed her. I am still worried and will watch her close the next few days. I think it was her dog tag. She wont be wearing them anymore.
I was so scared she was going to die Ashley. I love her and don't want to loose her.
Sorry to tell you in e-mail, but I didn't know if you would be up and I needed to get it out because your dad isn't very comforting to me.
I love you. Mom

I can update with details later.

Gosh, I am so sorry this happened to Kyra, but thankfully, your Mom saw the problem in time to have it taken care of by the vet.

You have my prayers that she will be alright.........and your Mom will be comforted. What a sweet little thing she is.

Please update us when you can.

I have LES. I could feel the worry and love coming from your mom in her words. I am glad Kyra is all fixed up and I will hope she makes a full recovery from this.

Tell your mom I'm giving her cyber-hugs.

Poor baby. Glad that it wasn't more serious and that she'll be okay. You just never think of something like that happening, so I checked both Myndi and Sparky's tags to make sure there was nothing sharp that could cause a similar accident.
Thanks for posting this. You never know - you just might have saved another dog or cat from being injured the same way.

Thanks guys! The MOMENT I saw the email with Kyra's name as the subject my heart fell. My spring break just started and last year during spring break is when Shadow got really sick and ultimately passed away. I'm so glad that it wasn't worse that it was.

I got a chance to talk to my mom today, and she's still worried. She said that Kyra hasn't had anything to eat or drink all day and she hasn't been out of her crate at all. She boiled up some chicken for her, and she only ate a bite or two. However, when I was on the phone with her, Kyra wanted to go outside and took off running out the door. I'm pretty hopeful that she'll be feeling better tomorrow.

She gets her stitches out on Tuesday! Apparently she's been a really good sport through the whole ordeal and even takes her antibiotics well!

Her wound wasn't healed enough on Tuesday to get her stitches removed. She should be getting them out tomorrow. Last night my mom told me that she was acting like she wasn't feeling well and had many sneezing fits. Because she was sneezing (and usually gets that way when she eats something she's not supposed to and it goes in her nose because of her cleft palate) makes me think it's unrelated to the injury, but I hope she feels better soon anyway!

I'm not sure if this is related to her injury...but it seems as if she breathes funny (once in awhile) and sneezes uncontrollably all the time. Sneezing 5-6 times in a row, banging her head on the ground so hard it hurts to watch (and we often run over and put a hand down and she'll smash her head against that instead of the cement). I'm sure it has more to do with her cleft palate than the injury, but it's odd that this started right after her neck was sliced open. But other than the sneezing, she's back to normal!

Ashley, I am so bad about checking dog health, that I did not read this until now when I was posting about Tucker. I am sorry I did not see it then - things have been crazy at work and at home. I hope Kyra has stopped sneezing by now and her injury is all healed up. Did the vet ever say he thought it was the tags? Did she catch them on the kennel or something to make them cut her that way? Pretty scary now knowing how or why something happens.

Sorry to be so late.

Very glad that Kyra seems to be recovered. How strange, to have a tag do such a giant gash!

Sending hugs to you and your mum, and gentle pets to Kyra!
