I took Vita to the vet today as she is almost skin and bones. Seems she lost over a pound in a bit over 3 weeks. :( Sigh. She was ONLY 7 pounds to start with!

They found an ear infection (no, she has NOT been scratching that ear!) and some inflamed gum over one tooth, so she has antibiotics and ear drops. I also had blood work and urinalysis run, will have those results tomorrow. She has lived with me 12 years, not sure how old she is, so the extra tests seemed warranted.

I will update when I get the lab reports tomorrow.

Prayers for dear Vita! Poor little girl- I hope she starts eating and gaining a few ounces back soon. Once her gums feel better, I'm sure that will happen.

Hugs and scritchies to Vita.

Sure hope that Vita feels better very soon. Maybe she's lost weight because she's older now. My Boo is very thin, too, but his checkup turned up nothing but 18 years of wear and tear. We'll pray that the same is true for pretty Vita. Keep the faythe.

Received the lab results, mostly everything looks like the infections we found are the cause of the weight loss. With a sore tooth and an ear infection making swallowing hurt, she wasn't eating well. We are redoing the thyroid test to clarify that one, as it was so close to borderline.

So she is one the mend, with her antibiotics and ear drops.

Thank you all!

It's quite common that older cats lose weight - it's mostly muscles. Fister is getting smaller too. I hope Vita will feel better after having antibiotics and ear drops for a little while.

Give her some kisses and headbumpies from us, please!

I'm glad to hear Vita doesn't have kidney problems. With older cats that can be a reason of weight loss too. But of course her little teeth gave her problems to swallow. Filou had 7 lbs when he was healthy and is now down to 6,5. He (on top of his kidneys) has tooth problems as well and he doesn't eat then.
So with a kitty over ten we have to watch them all the time :( They are so good in hiding their ailments.

Michael the Dream Cat was losing weight, but after the root canal hes doing all right now, and is slowly gaining strength again.
I am having this done for JJJ3 , as hes thin, and winces sometimes even with the food all mushed up!!
We are praying that Vita will be well and happy soon.

I'm sorry to hear this.:( I hope she'll feel better soon and will also be able to gain some weight back. Starr says that he can give her some of his extra pounds.;)

Got the lab results yesterday (they were supposed to be in on Sunday with me getting a phone call Monday, but it took a bit longer).

Anyway, Vita is now on Tapazole for her thyroid. :( this worries me no end. I KNOW so many on here have had cats take the medicine and control the condition for years. But that has not been my experience. Amber died 8 months after diagnosis, and Ruffles at 10 months after.

Vita was tested for thyroid issues 8 months back, and all was fine. So it comes on rapidly, I guess.

Now she is getting antibiotics, thyroid meds and ear drops, so she is less than pleased when she sees me approaching her. :p

Vita has lived with me 12 years; at the time I adopted her from the shelter, my vet "guessed" her age as "at least a year." She had not been spayed at that time, of course I got her spayed. So she is at least 13 now.

Oh goodness, I'm sorry, but at least you know for sure what you're dealing with. My Yodie is the same way as Vita, especially when it comes to administering ear drops. She's as fast as greased lightning and I have to be wilier than she in order to catch her. The ear drops are finished now but if she sees me coming, she bolts. Good luck w/this and I do hope that her thyroid straightens out, too, and that you have many, many happy years together yet.

Sandie!! Will add Vita to the candles that I will be lighting shortly.....Norton has been on Tapazole for several years now, and we have titrated his dose, and now he gets a quarter of a tab in the am and an EIGHTH in the pm!!! So far, this is holding his T4 WNL. Prayers for the same for your pretty girl!!!
