Our beloved Mouse (COTD 3/30/2007) went to Rainbow Bridge last night.... he had been almost blind for about 6 months, due to a major inflammatory reaction to the first insulin we tried to use for his diabetes- but we switched and his diabetes was well-managed and he was comfortable and happy- just, mostly blind... then yesterday, he had a couple of seizures, the last one very violent- so, apparently the neurological damage was more widespread, or was getting more widespread-- he was almost 13, not a candidate for major intervention-- and he couldn't be left alone to suffer if he had another such seizure, and he was terrified..... no choice but to take him to the emergency vet's and help him to Rainbow Bridge..... he was a wonderful, loving, affectionate, handsome cat, and he leaves a HUGE hole in our hearts, and in those of his feline friends (especially our young feral Birdie, who'd decided it was his job to take care of Mouse and make sure he got around OK- it was amazing to watch them!)-- but he's free, no more blindness, no seizures, no pain, no syringes, no diabetes, he's young and healthy again at RB..... but God, we miss him!!
Say a prayer for Mouse-- he was a wonderful, unforgettable cat, a huge part of our lives for a dozen years....

Thats such a sad loss for you, to see Mouse suffer like that, that tears the heart right out of a Pet Guardian to see thier Fur or Feather Companion suffer, and to know that theres in some cases nothing that can be done about it.
Our All Mighty Lord God in his infinite wisdom and nercy has made our Animal Companions immortal as he has done with the best among us, and has created a world where they can be with us in spirit and travel together all around the world , enjoying all the places they in most cases would have not gotten to see in life.
And where they can be there to greet us when its our turn to join them in Paradise , as Mouse Angel is now searching for just that right place , where you can be together gain, and enjoy life in Paradise forever.
One Fine Day.

Godspeed to the Bridge, dear Mouse, and peace to your family. You leave a 13 year void and that will take time to heal. Visit every once in a while to let them know you're OK.

Thank you all for your expressions of sympathy and wishes for our Mouse. He was a truly wonderful cat, a family member whose absence will be felt for a long, long time, not only by us but by his feline companions.... as has been said, we had a wonderful 12+ years with him, a zillion wonderful memories; and that is a HUGE amount to be very thankful for.... and he's waiting now at RB, 100% whole, no pain or problems, enjoying life as the big, strong, handsome, wonderful, loving cat he always was for us......but, GOD, do we miss him!!!
This is the price for making them such a part of our lives, being so totally fond of them-- and it's horribly painful- but I wouldn't trade a single second of our time with Mouse, or any of his fellow creatures........besides, there are so many wonderful creatures who NEED a home, and we're doing our part....
Thanks again-
M & P and all of Mouse's family members-

I understand what you are saying. My boys have both told me that when it's their turn to go to the Bridge, they want me to take in another kitty who needs a home. They said the need was great and I would love the new kitty, also. They are right. I will grieve, but I will not let my grief stop me me from saving another fur baby.

I'm so sorry for your loss of Mouse, he sounds like he was a wonderful boy. He is free of pain now and playing at the RB with his new friends there. :) I hope that will be a comfort to you. Keep him in your heart and remember the good times.

Rest in peace, sweet boy!

Name: Mouse
Age: Nine years old
Gender: Male
Kind: Domestic Shorthair
Home: New Jersey, USA

This highly photogenic boy is Mouse, an enormous handsome grey-and-white cat who came to us because his former owners thought he "wasn't much of a pet". Well, I don't know what they did with him to get that impression, because he's one of the most loving, affectionate, interactive cats in the place. He talks to you and carries on conversations, looking you right in the eye; he gives major back- and neck-rubs at night (he came front-declawed and he's very strong); he's playful and affectionate and everything a pet should be. So, we're very glad his former owners were clods.

The one thing about Mouse is, even though he's a solid 20-pound tomcat, certain things (like strangers or thunderstorms) will send him under the bed. He is a 'mouse', as far as overall courage is concerned, although he gets along with the other cats very well and won't take a whole lot of grief from them. Anyone strange in the house, though, and he won't come out of hiding until at least fifteen minutes after they've left.

He's handsome enough that his vet, who probably treats thousands of animals a year and is basically a dog-person, has a picture of Mouse on her desk. That says it all.

You were loved by everyone, handsome Mouse. Rest whole and healthy again, and wait for your humans. They miss you so much - please send a purr, a sign to let them know you are ok.
