Mertle I love you. I always tried to do the best I could for you, I am sorry I was not able to save you in the end.God bless you baby girl. I will never forget you.You were my first baby and were so very special to me.I am sorry if I let you down.

Mertle was a Red Eared Slider turtle.I had her since I was 16 Years old.I don"t know if I have a funny story,but I do have an amazing story about Mertle.The past 7 years Mertle lived in a outdoor pond with a fence around it.Two years ago while I was pregnant my husband was in charge of cleaning the pond.He let her out of the fence to walk in the grass while he cleaned the pond.She ran away(she could move faster than you would think a turtle could move.He looked for her for about an hour before he came and told me she was missing. I freaked out,started crying and went to look for her.I looked in ditches, under the pool house, in the woods,in my neighbors pool anywhere I thought she might have been.She was not anywhere.I talked to all my neighbors and asked them to keep an eye out for her.I think they thought I was crazy,they kept on saying "A TURTLE".She was missing for 5days,I looked every day and cried every day.I was sitting on my front porch talking on the phone and saw a movement at the bottom af my driveway.I took off running and just burst into tears when I saw it was Mertle. She had come home after 5 days in the wild.I was so very happy to have her back.After that we started putting her in a pet carrier when we cleaned her pond.Tank You for asking about a good memory of Mertle.
