I found this on another message board, I won't post the whole thing here because it includes phone numbers, but follow the link for more details.

Hello All,
I was walking past the park at 13th & Oregon on my way to work, when I saw a dog running around. Although I saw no owner nearby, I knew he belonged to somebody because he had a collar and I had seen him before. When I got to the end of the block, I saw an elderly woman sitting in a car. I went up to her and asked if that was her dog. By this point he had followed me to the car, so I knew that it was before she had said yes. I told her that I just wanted to make sure that he wasn't lost. She thanked me for looking out for him and I went on my way.

I walked less than half a block when I heard a car horn. It was the woman and her dog. She pulled over and asked me if I wanted him. I told her that I have four cats and could not possibly take a dog. She told me that she had asked because she is 80 years old and is dying. She has no one to leave him with, and if she cannot find a home for him, she will have to put him to sleep. He is only six years old. I asked her if she knew anybody who could go online for her, to which she said no. I told her I would go online and see if I can find someone who may want him.

The dog's name is Juno. He is six years old, half shepherd, half black lab. He is also on the chunky side. She told me that he was up to date on all his shots. His vet is doctor Simmons here in South Philly, so I'm sure this can be verified. She said he is very well behaved and gets along well with other dogs. She is worried about finding him a good home because he does come from an abusive background.

Please forward this email to anybody who you think might be interested in adopting this dog. I am the only one working on this, so his chances are slim. It is bad enough that this poor creature is losing his mommy; he shouldn't have to lose his life as well. Please get back to me and let me know if you know anyone who is interested. Thank You. Bill

Oh Great. Juno would HAVE to be in my neck of the woods..well at least, not that far away.

Seriously, I'd consider it, but Mz Klo would hate a permanent roomie. And with upcoming surgeries, I just can't. Believe me, it breaks my heart.

I'm sure if he checks the internet, he'll find rescues in Phila or surrounding areas.

Rats. :(

Poor pup. Any Philadelphia folks, or even Jersey ones know anyone ...
