He's getting neutered tomorrow. I think I'm also going to get that wart or whatever that is taken off. I have the day off from work. I'm dropping him off around 7:30-8:00 and picking up up around 5:30-6:00. I just hope he will be ok! I always worry, lol.

I am glad you are neutering him. You are a very responsible mom. I am sure he will be fine. It is better to have the wart removed when he is being neutered as it will be cheaper for you as you will not have to pay double for anesthesia, boarding etc.. and it will be better for him although anesthesia is generally very safe if used by a proffessional but it is best to put him under as less as possible and he wil already be under anesthesia.

We just went through this last week, and I can identify with your worries!! Instead of waiting for the phone to ring all day, I went shopping! :D
We will certainly think about Nebo tomorrow. Keep us up to date as how he is doing. Pretty soon the hardest part will be keeping him quiet for 10 days!!!

We will all be thinking of precious Nebo tomarrow.
Remember after you get him home, do not let
him lick his stitches.

Thanks everyone! I just got back from dropping him off. Ahh I am such a paranoid person! I feel bad too. Having that wart thing removed was $53. The vet said I could have it sent it to test and see if it was cancer or not too. I really wanted to do that, but it was like $75. Ahg, I don't have that much! :( She said the possibility of that was quite low, because he is so young/in good health. But I'm going to watch im really closely, and if it comes back or something, I'm definitely going to have it tested! I also got some heartworm meds for him, $18 for 3 months. She said I could get the shot after he's 6 months old, I'll have to see which is cheaper. *sigh* I can't wait until 5:30!

PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THE SHOT!!!! Not enough scientific research has been done and there are some reports of dogs that end up having major problems after the shot. Some have even died with mysterious causes which the vets seem to be unable to diagnose until it is too late.
The once a month meds are established. If cost is the issue, think of the cost you will pay if your dog is one of the ones who does not do good on it! :( I believe you are better off staying away from the shot than being sorry later! The old saying.... An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure (or something like that).

At my vet's, the shot and pill cost the same. Drake has been on the shot for over a year. I have consulted with my vet as well as 2 other vets and they said that the shot is safe and just as effective as the pill.
Hi Nebo !!
Yep , a letter from a cat !!!
Why ? Well , I had the same operation last week , and I want to assure you there is no need to be afraid !!! I fell asleep ; and when I woke up , it was all over !!
My belly hurt a bit , but as I slept all the time , also the next day , I did not mind very much !!! Just be sure not to eat ANYTHING from 12 hours before , otherwise you will vomit a lot ...!
good luck pal !!!

Oh?? I didn't know there was anything bad about the shot, sorry. I don't really know anything about heartworm meds period, other then I needed to get some! I guess I will stick with the chewable tablets, as I guess it is better to be safe then sorry. Nebo would probably like them better anyway, lol, he'll eat ANYTHING, but boobs when he gets a shot. Is there more then one type of shot? It seems weird that some vets would say it's perfectly safe, and others not.
Nebo says thanks for the advice, Maya! Or at least thats what he will say when he gets back! lol

Hi Nebo!
I hope everything went well with your surgery. Now, be a good boy and try not to do too much damage to yourself or the house when you come back home.;) Have a good nap and you'll be back to your usual puppy antics in no time.

Thanks everyone for your concern. Nebo is NOT a happy boy right now at all. When we picked up Lady and Reggie both of them were kind of out of it.....just calm and slow (and Lady is normally twice as hyper as Nebo). Well Nebo was wild. And to complicate matters, he is wearing one of those elizabethan collars. Apparently he was licking/biting at his stitches on his leg and other place really bad, so they had to put it on him. Melissa and I had to laugh when we first saw it, but now I feel soo sorry for him. :( He has been bawling, ALL night long. He won't settle down at all, he keeps jerking and trying to run around (Nebo has never been one to be held down). I really don't think he is crying because he is in major pain (although I'm sure he is really, really sore!). It's not really a "pain cry" it's a "pissed off cry." lol. He keeps scratching at it, and rolling around, getting very, very frustrated (and LOUD!). And he has to keep that thing on him for 10-14 days!! The stitches where he was neutered will dissolve, but the ones in his leg have to be taken out. The vet said I could give him a little bit of food at 8:00 and 9:00....I just hand fed him a little bit, and he really "wolfed" it down! Poor little guy was so hungry. I wasn't expecting the collar thing, Reggie, Smokey, or Lady didn't have to have them. The main thing I am worried about is leaving him when I go to work. I leave at around 11:30, and get home at about 6:30. My mom gets home at 4:00, but he'll still be alone for a while. I think it'd be better if I left him crated in my room, then outside in a dog run. I'm just worried he's going to get it caught in the crate or something. But what else do I do? I've contemplated taking him to work.......but I have this feeling he would cry all day long, and I don't want to start any "issues" as I've only been working there for a week and a half. Ugh, sorry for the long winded post. It's just not a good day for me. I worry too much. I probably won't get any sleep either, because I bet he'll cry all night long. I guess I can't really blame him, I'd be pretty upset to have that thing on my head too! Here's some pictures. He does a great job and looking pathetic, doesn't he? lol

Oh, poor Nebo. :(
Smokey hated the collar, too.
I took it off him when I could watch him.
He was pretty good about not licking himself, though.
And after like 6 days he was w/out the collar all together.
As a sort of side note: I did worry that Smokey's stitches would get infected but basically, I think if there's no green / nasty stuff oozing out you're OK.
But - you know your dog best so you know if he should stay in the collar or not.

Thanks Manda, I might try taking the collar off for a break sometime, but I probably couldn't get it back on, lol. I've just never had a dog have one of these things on before, and maybe it's just the way they look...but I feel so bad! lol. Of course it doesn't help that I have a dog that FREAKS out about it! I don't think Nebo would be good at leaving the stitches alone. He tends to bite himself often anyway (actually he likes to put the entire foot in his mouth).....and really enjoys licking things for long periods of time (especially my feet! and windows!)......Nebo is a baby too, he bawls if i hold him just to brush him. I don't think he's going to get used to it very fast at all.
Poor Nebo,
Rocky had to wear one of those contraptions,
when he had surgery on his toe.
My Rocky, figured a way how to stand up, press
the Elizabethian collar in such a way that it would
bend when touching the ground so he could lick his paw.
Needless to say after he figured that out, the
collar served no purpose.
Poor Nebo, it will be over soon and that
collar will be off again.

Poor, poor Nebo!
What a fiesty lil guy! I am so sorry to hear that he is so upset about the surgery :( Drake was very calm the first week and didn't have to wear a collar. He did however have to wear one last October when he got into a bad fight with a GSD next door. It didn't last an hour on him! He kept charging towards the wall and throwing himself at it. Then he would beat his head on the side of the door. That is of course in addition to trying to paw it off.
Don't take it off unless you have someone else to help you put it back on! And in Nebo's case, you may need 2 or 3 people to help :D
Feel better, Nebo!

Raustyk, my rott. had to wear one when she had cruciate surgery. The first couple days I had her home (which was the day after surgery) she was ver frustrated with the e-collar but then settled down. Cruciate is a bigger surgery then neutering so luckily she was pretty calm. I just kept her pre-ccupid with lots of chewie toys and kong it seemed to take her mind off the collar. Good luck. Sometimes after a few days of wearing that they learn to leave the sutures alon. Under close supervision you can try to take it off and see how he does. Good luck!

Poor Nebo and poor you too. I know how hard it is because I had a similar time with Bob when he was neutered. He didn`t come home with a collar on but the first night I couldn`t sleep for his constant licking, I hit on the bright idea of putting a muzzle on him, a big leather greyhound kind and that worked in a way. He couldn`t lick but he also couldn`t settle, whine, walk about, on and on. I slept downstairs on the couch, whine, walk about, nudge, paw... I gave up. Next day he was so sore and swollen after all that licking and he would not let me bathe it, snarling etc. Ok, called the vet and took him in, said he was ok advised to bathe it etc and they gave me a collar, took him home and put it on. We were in the hall at the time, and thats where he stayed, sat there, in the same spot, hardly moving a muscle for TWO hours! I tried tempting him with treats and sweet words, nothing. Tried ignoring him, went in the living room and watched some tv, stepped over him and came upstairs on the computer. Nothing, just stayed there looking at me with hate in his eyes. Of course I took it off.
The rest of the time until he had his stitches out was so stressful, he eventually stopped licking so much and eventually the swelling did go down and I managed to bathe it once with out losing my hand! He did bite one day though, I was taking him out for his walk and the lead sort of tangled around his rear end, I lifted his leg to untangle him and he got my thumb. It wasn`t deep or anything but it did hurt and it was scary. He was so nasty. For a little time there it was hit and miss whether he`d go on a one way trip. But he was still my Bob, and here he stayed.
I have read and heard of lots of dogs having the op with no trouble, just the other week Simpson, who lives next door had it done and he was ok. Why Bob reacted the way he did I really don`t know.
So I really, really, hope Nebo has got used to having the collar on by now so he can heal up properly. Please let us know. Prayers and thoughts going out for you.

Thanks for asking everyone. :D He's ok, not happy, but ok. He keeps scratching at it, and he runs into everything. But he really gets around ok. You'd never know he had surgery, he acts fine. He doesn't act like he is in pain at all, I can hardly keep him from running around and playing. He's eating like a horse, and still wants to attack Reggie and Smokey. He looks very funny, and he keeps getting stuck in things. One of his favorite things is to do laps and run behind the couch and jump over the magazine rack. Luckily he can't fit behind there now! lol. I think I'm going to take it off him Tuesday night just to go to his Puppy Kindergarten class, then put it back on. I will be with him the whole time, obviously, so I can keep him from licking his stitches. I don't think I'm going to let him play with the other dogs though, I don't want him getting too rough and hurting himself. I still feel sorry for the little guy, and I bought him a special toy (a stretchy husky w/ a rattle at one end and squeaker at the other) and some treats. He LOVES the toy! Hehe, check out the pics under Dog General.

Aly, I am SO pleased to read that Nebo has got used to the collar and is recovering on so well. :) I suppose that if I hadn`t given in to Bob`s sorrowful way he would have got used to it too and I would`nt have had the problems I did. Oh, well, live and learn I guess. Once again, I am glad he is fine. I will go and take look at the pics in general and look forward to the lots of other pictures and post of him as he is growing up. He is such a gorgeous boy :)

Thanks ChrisH! Lol, poor Bob! Nebo HATED the collar at first too, like Bob. Ok, so actually he still hates it, but it doesn't bother him *as* much now. Unless my digital camera breaks (noo!), you poor souls will always be bombared with new doggy pics, hehe.
