A friend of mine had to put her 15 year old dog to sleep about 3 or 4 months ago. She didn't want to adopt until after a 3 week vacation.

Well yesterday I had to go renew bubba's license so I drug her with me.

She fell in love with a 3 year old standard male poodle. He does look mixed with something but pretty close to pure bred his snout doesn't look totally poodly to me.

She went back last night and got herself as first on the waiting list, he is microchipped so if the owner gets contacted and come forwarded of course she won't get to get him.

I fell in love with a brindle pit bull that seriously was crying to me, I started crying...I hate going there its a high kill shelter.

Well, sounds like this poodle is going to get a home, either way! Either the owner picks him up (and in fairness, the dog "could" just have got away, it does happen), or he is going to be iwth your friend. Good!

Where are the photos? Is he on petfinder someplace?

Since he is not up for adoption yet he is not on petfinder yet, he has been there since dec 30th so his owners could be on vacation or something, they will hold him until January 7th.

I didn't read his paperwork to see if he was dropped off or picked up as a stray, he does have a chip though. We are going back today to take him out and walk him.

If you get a picture of the Brindle pittie that stole your heart, we could crosspost it and try to get him a home. I would just need the name of the shelter, phone, address and his case # if they assign them. I have lots of contacts in CA through dogster :)

I will do that...I am going back today, did not want to look at him but I will force myself. If it wasn't for me having a female with issues already he would be on my couch right now.

They wouldn't let us walk the poodle since he is not available for adoption yet. We took him some blankets and I snuck three blankets in the kennel with the pitbull I fell in love with.

MoonandBeam I sent you a PM.

Mr. Brindle Pitt (as I have fondly been calling him) already has some interested parties. I'm going to call the shelter and see if he is still there in a few days :)

Thank you so much moonandbean...I am going with my friend this morning, she is the first on the list for "chokka" (long story its a nickname for me at work so that is what she is naming him since he is sort of chocolate). We have to be there by ten, I am sneaking Mr. Brindle Pitt many milk bones, his roommate bronson will get some too, he is a sweetie also, very mellow.

I am taking my crate for her to borrow and try out some dog food, although I think she has bought some trader joe's dog food already. She went and had a thing made for his collar with his name and phone number already, is that cute or what. I just got an email that she got to work early since she is so excited, we work together. I will go meet her at work and we will go get him.

Thanks again, Shelley

Chokka is home! He was so good in the car! He sat next to me in the backseat and behaved like a total gentleman.

My Mr. Brindle Pit seems more desperate for a home :( One of the workers said he is her favorite too.

He is quite dashing isn't he and he has that poodle walk, or should I say strut:D

Its a funny story, I went overseas years ago and my friend said "how will you communicate" and I said I don't know I will say choka boka...so I became chokka and she became bokka....its a wierd story..so our other friend named him chokka after me...and he is sort of chocolate.

GASP!! What a handsome guy!!! Bella is in love! :p Whatever happened with the chip? Weren't his people able to be found? I am so glad that he has a good home. Tell your friend that PT needs more poodle people so she needs to join. LOL!

caseysmom

Pam, I am sure they tried to contact the owner through the chip. I don't know what happened, the owners could have dropped him off as a stray, that happens...who knows it could have been financial or many reasons, he was very thin. He was there for 11 days so they had plenty of time.

Ooooh! How lucky!!! My heart always skips a beat whenever I see especially beautiful purebreds in pounds (i.e. that dobe that I SHOULD have adopted but sadly lucked out). So I understand that exhilarating feeling. So glad you guys were able to nab him up before somebody else took him :D He IS beautiful!

Mr. Brindle Pitt has a name. I just looked on the website and now he has a name: Jelly Bean. It must be meant to be that I help this dog. My cat is named Bean for a reason :) I will repost his info. now with his name.

It is definitely meant to be.

I hope Chokka is doing okay, he was sneezing Friday so we suspected he was going to come down with kennel cough. She had an appointment for him on Sunday, that is all her vet had available.

My friend just sent a email to work saying she doesn't feel well...I hope everything is going okay.

Thanks everyone chokka has been renamed to chewbacca. He is doing great, she says he is a wonderful dog. He checked out fine at the vet, he never did come down with kennel cough like we feared, he sneezes sometimes, the vet says it may be allergies.

My son-in-law had a cat growing up who he named Chewbacca. The named got shortened to "Chewey." :D Wonder if Chokka/Chewbacca will be the same. :)

Do you mean electric clippers? I have an Oster and have had it for quite some time. I have been thinking of getting another one so that I can trade off when the Oster heats up a little and looked into the Andis clippers. They are about the same price. The nice thing is that the blades are inter-changeable. There are several companies that make clippers and some are very pricey. There is a very old thread here somewhere about the various kinds of clippers from back when I was deciding what to do (which I still haven't done yet :o ). Maybe Amy (WolfQ) or Jen Luckenback can offer some suggestions since they are professional groomers. :)

If you meant sheers, as in scissors, I have been using a few that were my mother-in-law's (she was a hairdresser). The dogs don't know the difference. :p:p

Thanks Pam, yes I mean electric clippers. I remember reading that Andis were good.

She just called to tell me her neighbors have complained that he barks all day why she is at work. She keeps him outside but he has a basement area he can go to get shelter.

I told her to try to keep him in a laundry room during the day to see how he does. I also gave her a crate to try out when she first got him.

Why doesn't she keep him inside? Is he destructive/not housebroken? Do you know how old he is? Sorry for all of the questions. :o

I am not sure why she doesn't keep him inside, it may be fear of what he will do. Its not bad now but it does get cold here and very hot in the summer. The shelter said 3 but based on his teeth I thought he may be a little older but he has a lot of spunk. He is housebroken, I am not sure about how he would do for 8 hours though. My dogs have pretty strong bladders.

I am not a fan of leaving a dog outside for many reasons. A person in the next town from me had a dog stolen right out of her yard and, as you mention, the weather is an issue. Maybe she will give him little "tests" where she can leave him for short periods of time and see what he does or doesn't get into. :) She could also try the crate, but if he is 3 years old and never been crated he might put up a fuss. I crated Ripley in the beginning and he didn't like it one little bit. Somehow he even cut his nose on the crate. At the least could she maybe gate him in the kitchen? Even if he continues to bark, at least it won't be as loud and less bothersome to the neighbor.

Chewbacca is gorgeous!! I love Standard Poodles. I would love to adopt one but don't think we will anytime soon. Our life is full of moves and travels that one dog is plenty. Two would be very challenging.

I hope Chewey finds his way indoors soon while his mommy is at work :)

Awww! Chewbacca is just precious. (PLAYDATE!!!!!) : ) Did she get him at the shelter on Bradshaw? That place is just depressing. I'm so glad she got him out of there.

Definitely remind her that Chewy has been through a lot in the past couple of weeks, and he's probably a bit scared that he's being abandoned again. I would recommend dedicating plenty of time to getting him crate trained (feeding him in there, giving him chewies and stuffed Kongs in there, spending short periods in it). Because she doesn't know if he's destructive or has seperation anxiety, and because it's not very safe outside for 8 hours alone, a crate is probably the safest and most comforting place he can be. Also, if she doesn't already realize, remind her that Poodles are ACTIVE dogs, and he should be getting a nice long walk/run and play time before and after she leaves for the day.

Erica, Yes she got him from Bradshaw, I hate that place but it is improving, they are getting a larger facility just down the street and they do seem to try to keep the dogs a bit longer now.

I have talked to her about crate training, I loaned her caseys crate which is pretty big but not really big enough for him.

She is talking to some trainers now so thats good, she's in it for the long haul so I know she will find a solution. The funny thing is he could go into the house from the outside I guess he was lonely so he went out to bark.

Chewy may get a sibling this weekend :D My friend feels like another dog will help with the lonliness while she is at work. He has access to inside and outside while she is at work and he still goes out and barks. She has consulted behaviorists and they feel he is lonely.

There is a labradoodle on petfinder that is not great with kids (she has no kids at home) but good with other dogs.

She had him groomed I need to post the new pictures he is really handsome.
