The family cat of the Bush family passed away on Sunday. She was 18.

The President, Mrs. Bush, Barbara, and Jenna are deeply saddened by the passing of their cat India. The 18 year-old female black American Shorthair died Sunday, January 4, 2009 at home at the White House.

When Barbara was nine years old, she named India after the former Texas Ranger baseball player, Ruben Sierra, who was called “El Indio.” When Barbara and Jenna moved away to college, India, affectionately called “Kitty” by the family, stayed at the White House with the President and Mrs. Bush.

India was a beloved member of the Bush family for almost two decades. She will be greatly missed.

And we are betting that Ms Grace in her days at the White House was as good as an ambassador as America has ever had, and we bet thta the White House Chefs made her some Great Meals.
We know that the Animal Angels were always welcome there.
And she will be there with stories to tell her family when they are all reunited in Paradise.
One Fine Day.

I just sent an email to the Bush's (at the White House) saying how sorry we are about their loss of India. It has been such fun to follow the antics of the Bush's pets over the last 8 years...We also had a beloved black cat who was named Billy that we said goodbye to last June, so we were especially interested in India. Presidential pets add a touch of an "everyman" quality to presidents and their families...Everyone loves animals, don't they???

Anyway, I am sorry for the Bush's...India was 18 years old, so she had been with them for a very long time. Apparently, one of the Bush's daughters, Barbara, named her. Bless them and bless India.

I read this last night before I went to bed and said a prayer for sweet India. She lived a good, long life and now she's even happier at the Bridge. RIP, sweet girl.
