So, I was just thinking about the dog I used to have when I was growing up. We had other animals come and go but Roxxy always stayed. We found her when I was 9 yrs old. She was a Pitbull and Boxer mix, but she had more pit in her than boxer. I have so many memories with that dog. My mom had to make the decision to put her to sleep last year because she was having so many problems. She was 13 yrs old. I just thought I'd share a few photos of her and ask you all what your childhood dog was? Please post photos and share!:D

A red cocker spaniel named Pee-Wee. Later on it was two Airedales, Tinker's Terror (father) and Samantha Nikki (daughter). All wonderful dogs!!

My childhood dog was Pepper. He was a Saint Bernard mix. We got him shortly after we moved out to the country. So I was probably about 3 or 4 years old. I remember him running around the backyard and he would run with his butt down to the ground and would spin in circles. LOL
He lived to be around 12, I think. I never cried when he left us. Until I was in high school and had to write an anthology. I chose to write about Pepper and I bawled my eyes out.
I'll have to see if I have any pictures of him I could scan and post.
We have always had dogs, but Pepper was the first I remember and I'll never forget him. EVER.

Awww...I love the first picture. Was that you as a girl? Very cute and the dog was beautiful! I had a few cats growing up...Frisky, Tiger, Biddy-Bop and Pouncer. 2 main dogs, Tug and Thai. I used to take Thai to the school play ground and he would run up the steps and down the slide. He was a German Shepherd mix and lived to be around 15 :)

:) His name was Tex. We went to the pound to pick out a dog. He had just been admitted, and was looking quite forelorn in the corner. My younger brother & I wanted the very lively larger dog that was jumping all over us, but Dad had fallen for the new guy. They said he was a cocker mix, but now that I know more about dogs, he looked a lot maybe Toller or yellow lab mix. He was really gotten for my brother, but stuck to my mom like glue. He was a lot of fun to play with, and used to drag us across the floor playing tug of war with his Yucky Ducky.

Tanner IS my first pet, other than three fish, we did not know how to take care of them, they died after three days. :(. We kept them in a bowl, and later Mom read on the internet not to do that. They need filters, tanks, lots of other stuff.

My first dog was a Cocker Spaniel/Beagle mix named Coconut. I was convinced she was the worlds strongest dog. She was a good friend until she was hit by a car.

I also had a Border Collie/Rough Collie mix named Green. I didn't name him. He had a nasty habit of chasing cars. He had a lot of herding instincts in him. He too was hit by a car.

I had a few dogs for short spans growing up, but my childhood dog that I really connected with and he was really all mine...was Bruno. He was a long haired dachshund and cocker spaniel mix. He was the sweetest dog in the world. I've never met another dog with a temperament like his. I got him as a 13-year-old and put him down when I was almost 27. My childhood cat, Dusty, whom I'd gotten as a 10-year-old, died a few months later. I miss my boys!

Maggie was our first dogs, my parents got her at 8 weeks from an ad in the paper for free.
We definately had alot of dogs when i was growing up but for some reason no matter what happened she was the one who survived everything and stayed with us(my parents did not take good care of the animals we had when i was a kid)
She died in Sept. 06 at 14 1/2 yrs old

I had a little black mutt for a very short time when I was about 9 years old - his name was Tex and he was born in Texas to my oldest brother's dog (my brother was living in TX at the time). Unfortunately my parents never got him any vaccines and he got distemper and had to be PTS. I was heartbroken, and after that my father vowed to never have another.
So I never had another dog until I was married - and have never been without at least one ever since. No home is complete without a dog (or cat)! :D

This is Jackson. He was my first dog, a family dog really though. He was born in 1986 and died in 1997 from snout cancer. He was the biggest Golden Retriever ever, weighing in at a whopping 130 lbs. at the time of his death. Perhaps we shouldn't have fed him so much Kibbles 'N' Bits, but we didn't know much about dogs when we had him. He was extremely friendly and very gentle with me when I was an infant from what I'm told (I was born in 1985, one year before big Jackson). My Mom always joked he was part moose because of his massive size. He really was one of those special dogs...

This is my first dog, Fritzie...he was a wonderful standard sized dachshund who loved his backyard and kept any kind of "critter" out!!

Clancy was a terrier mix....he was a funny, funny little dog....Curly tail, overbite, crooked ears, big nose, and curls that dangled down like ringlets from his tail!

My last dog we had while I was still at home was Kacie, a cockapoo.....she was a wonderful little pup who loved to get my dad's socks out of the dirty clothes and bury them in her bed!

All I ever wanted in my life was a dog.

I vaguely remember a neighbor bringing over a puppy from her dog's litter..if memory serves correct (I had to be about 7) it was a terrier mix. Poor thing ran out the front door about a month later and somehow broke it's little leg. Unfortunately vet medicine wasn't what it is today and after suffering for weeks and not healing, my dad had him (Happy) PTS.

I finally got my wish at age 40, (Cody) but it was worth the wait! I'll never be without a poochie. EVER!

I don't remember much about the first two dogs...Mikey and Simon were my parents children before us kids were born and not around very long after. Simon is the terrier on the left, Mikey, a beagle/weimie on the right.

We didn't get another dog until I was 14. Oreo was a dog all her own for all 16 of her years, always living life on her terms. Even though life with her wasn;t always easy, I do miss her.

We had a lot of dogs through the years but the ones that really stuck to me were Simon(German Shepherd), Hannah(German Shepherd), and Abby(Miniature Pincher), Also Maggie but she's still alive and well.

Simon died around the age of 15 due to cancer and sadly Hannah, his half sister, was put down shortly after due to attacking and killing Abby, then a week later attacking Maggie as well as my brother and mom. It was a very sad time.

My parents had an Irish Setter named Rusty when I was a child. He died when I was 8 years old from bloat. :( He was young too, about 4 years old, I think.

I only have vague memories of him but he was a sweetheart.

We moved shortly after that, was adopted by a stray cat, and had cats ever since.

Losing Rusty was hard on my parents so they never got another dog.

The first dog I ever got was a miniature dachshund, when I was three years old. My older brother, who was much older, told one of his co-workers to let him know if he heard of a "good dog". So, the friend comes over to our house and says, "Darryl, I found you a good dog." He reaches in his shirt pocket and pulls out this tiny dachshund puppy. My mom says I ran acoss the room, snatched the puppy, and ran in my room with it. My brother looked at his friend and said, "That was not the kind of dog I meant. I meant a German Shepherd or something like that." Too late, the dog was mine. I named him Drawstring. I have no idea why ... I was three. :D

The second dog I had was an American Eskimo mix named Snow. My dad found him as a scared, starving puppy in the pipe yard at his work. I had him until I was in college, and he died of old age.

The third dog I had was an English cocker named Blood. (Don't ask. I didn't name her.) She was my older brother's dog, and when he was killed in a car accident, we took her. She also died when I was in college.

Those are the only three dogs I had a a child. The next dog I got was my first dog as an adult, Lacie, my RB cocker spaniel. I got her right before I graduated from college, and she died a few years ago.

My dad's heart dog Bear was a black lab mix that he got when he moved out of his parent's house. My mom let her outside shortly after they met and Bear was hit and killed by a car. It was hard for him and he didn't want any more dogs. Then they moved into a trailer, and couldn't have any anyway.

Ever since I could talk I begged for a puppy. I really, really wanted a beagle. We eventually ended up with Simba, an animal shelter GSD puppy, when I was 6. He wasn't a right fit for our family unfortunately. When I was 7 I got Shadow! So worth the wait!

We only had one dog and she was a beagle/schnauzer mix. Her mother was a pure bred schnauzer who got out and ended up getting pregnant by a beagle in the neighborhood. She was born on Dec.13th so my mom named her Lucky since so many people think that the number 13 is unlucky. She was such a sweet dog and had a lot of energy and loved going for walks. She lived until she was about 15-16 years old I think. Here's a picture of her.

We had several dogs off and on while I was growing up, I have never been without one for as long as I can remember. About 5yrs old is as far back as I can remember we had a doberman named Brandi, she would play in the backyard at night when the moon was full and look just like a deer prancing around out there, she always watched over me when I was playing, my mom used to tell me she was my babysitter. The next one that was important to me was my dog Panda, he was a white spitz mixed, feisty, and had one black circle at the nape of his neck and was born bobbed tail and one black circle right over his tail and butt...lol Panda was my baby, I loved that dog so much, my mom had to put him to sleep for me when I was 22 due to cancer, I had him for 11yrs. Then I got my heart dog Mousse.

I had a couple Childhood dogs..

We had a Golden Chow mix named Rubble, he was unaltered and took off all the time to find ^girlfriends^ And well one day he didnt come back..
We had two cockers, and we had them till they were older. Then They didnt do well with the youngster children in the house So my parents rehomed them..
They we got Jagg he was a Malamute, we had him till he was 7, he had to be put down That was heart renching :( (He attacked a cockerspaniel down the street from us) ... Also had a Female Malamute ,Tika, shorty but she also had to be put down (distemper).. We then got Tikeya(sibe), and a few years later got Makia (Red husky/mal ) (she and Tikeya Fought constantly and we had to rehome Makia)

Then when I was 12 we got Tikeya (look at Signature) (she was 5 wks old) I still have her.
And then Oscar (shihtzu) and Baby (great dane)! (parents still have them)
