OK Richard, it's your turn to gloat. :p I honestly don't know why Charlie Manual took Pedro out. He said he wasn't tired and has pitched 9 innings before. It all fell apart after that and, of course, Chase Utley made that horrible throw to Ryan Howard ruining that double play which would have ended some of the mess. *sigh* Well it's back to Philly and the cold! LOL! :p:D

That's not gloating.

That's was low and inside....:D

I have the feeling that the Mc Court marriage deal will have a little to do with this crash.

I can hardly wait for the post season stories about the LADs...

THe local media are treating it as a non-story. Most of the coverage are general stories taken from the wires. That should be interesting when the writers feel comfortable enough to write about it.

MLB's bylaws say that their can only be ONE team owner. The MC C's both are stating that they are both part owners.

Great shot of the Phanatic, Pam. I see that Billy Penn is in the background doing his part in the pep rally.

BTW - whatever happened to Tubby Raymond's son - the original Phanatic. Do you know?

Richard will just have to bear with us for a while Ellie! :p My brother e-mailed this pic to me today. I liked it a lot because I used to work in the PNB building on the 24th floor and my view out the window was Billy Penn. ;)

I don't know the answer to your question Ellie. Sounds like a job for Google. :)

I have seen the game turn on a dime many times in the ninth inning - for the good and for the bad. These ninth innings have caused the blood pressure of many Phillies fans to rise I am sure! (I should view these ninth innings with a glass of Richard's DOTD by my side! LOL!) Last night as Jimmy stepped up to the plate I thought...."Jimmy you can do this." ... and he did!!!! :):)

From Yahoo news -

LOS ANGELES – A lawyer for Dodgers CEO Jamie McCourt says she has been fired after her marital separation from the team's owner.

Attorney Dennis Wasser says his client learned Thursday she was no longer employed by the Dodgers, who ended their season Wednesday with a National League championship series loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.

McCourt and team owner Frank McCourt separated earlier this month.

Wasser says Jamie McCourt is disappointed and saddened by her termination. He says she'll address her firing in court.

Jamie McCourt was the highest-ranking woman in Major League Baseball.

For those of you not subjected to the NY Yankees radio team, the announcer, John Sterling, is possibly the most annoying homer in the business. He has stupid nicknames/catch phrases for every player on the Yankees. (If I hear the "It's an A-bomb for A-rod" call once more I'm going to rip the radio out of the car dashboard) His color commentator, Susan Waldmann, is actually pretty knowledgable about the game, but has a really, really, annoying accent. Between the pair, it's tough to listen to a Red Sox-Yankees game out here (If you're a Sox fan).

RICHARD

I hated Charlie Steiner when he first came to the D's-he's a good announcer,

I cannot stand Chris Berman in any way shape or form. LOL, I always dream of meeting people (stars) on the street and letting them know what I think.

I want to put my foot in the tube when CB does the "RAIDUHS" schtick.

They are literally the raid DUHS!

----------

I have to say that Vin Scully is the absolute best.

He's probably as impartial as he can be and he's a delight to listen to.

"Welcome to D Stadium tonight where the Dodgers have a date with the San Diego Padres. The Padres come in on the wave of a 5 game winning streak and for a piece of first place in the division....."

He makes it sound like you are really missing a great game and as he goes along he mixes stats with trivia that you really don't care about - but you are really interested in the player's career before he finishes.

Chick Hearn is still missed and the announcer for the El Lay Kings-Bob Miller- is another solid dude.

Chick Hearn-Lakers-40 years
Bob Miller-Kings -36 years
Vin Scully-Dodgers-59 years.

135 years of broadcasting! and it's all here in El Lay!;)

Part of the termination letter sent to Jaime Mc Court.....

However, your actions, including, but not limited to, your insubordination, non-responsiveness, failure to follow procedures, and inappropriate behavior with regard to a direct subordinate, have made this decision necessary."

OUCH.

I guess Frank knew the score coming into the late innings. I think both are bumblers and his making JM such a high powered official in the club may have been a fatal mistake for the whole organization.

I just heard on the news that in addition to a possible mass transit strike in Philadelphia tomorrow, plus possible rain in the evening, that several players (on both teams) have the flu. Gregg Dobbs was sent home as was Tyler Walker. Apparently Pedro Martinez pitched last night while feeling sick. :(

More about my favorite Tiger -

Granderson donates book to schools
Tigers star wants to promote reading for Michigan youth

By Alden Gonzalez / MLB.com
When Tigers center fielder Curtis Granderson set out to create a children's book, his goals had nothing to do with profit -- he simply wanted to get kids excited about learning.

His new book "All You Can Be: Dream It, Draw It, Become It!" is being distributed free of charge to public elementary school libraries in Michigan, a recent article on the Michigan Department of Education Web site stated.

Copies of the book are being donated by Granderson and Chicago-based publisher Triumph Books.

Illustrations in the book were contributed by fourth-grade students across the state. A contest was held to pick the artwork, as hundreds of children contributed drawings and Granderson selected 29. The theme for the illustrations was: How do you see yourself when you are in high school, and how is education important to helping you become that person?

Granderson, who grew up on the south side of Chicago, is the son of two schoolteachers and learned the importance of education at an early age. All of the net proceeds from the public sale of the books go to Granderson's foundation, Grand Kids Foundation.

"There was one simple thing I wanted to achieve with 'All You Can Be' -- to make learning fun for school children," Granderson was quoted as saying on the Web site. "My mother, Mary, co-author Terry Foster and I truly feel we have accomplished what we set out to do, which was to make learning fun through using creative and different ways to get Michigan's elementary school students thinking about their future."

Woman 'offered sex for World Series tickets'

A US woman charged with offering sex for World Series tickets on the Craigslist website says she did nothing wrong and still hopes to make the game.

Susan Finkelstein, 43, was arrested after meeting an undercover police officer responding to the advertisement in a bar, reports the Daily Telegraph.

"I didn't do anything wrong, so I'm not embarrassed about my actions. I'm embarrassed about how I was arrested," she said.

The University of Pennsylvania graduate said she had wanted to take her husband to a baseball game between her beloved Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Yankees.

The self-described "buxom blonde" said she was simply trying to score tickets online, as she had in the past.

Ms Finkelstein told WPVI-TV: "I was hoping to get cheap tickets, maybe meet someone, and talk, and bat my eyelashes and maybe get some tickets."

Her lawyer William J Brennan said his client was merely "a nice lady overcome with Phillies fever".

She might have dropped double entendres in her Craigslist advertisement but never explicitly offered sex, he added.

Mr Brennan hopes to get the misdemeanour charge of promoting prostitution dismissed.

"If somebody read into that posting a sexual connotation, that's on them. There's no overt sexual reference," he said.

RM did the games for the LA Angels and did the local sports on TV.

George Michael, who did the Sports Machine on Sunday nights also passed in the last two weeks.

God bless them.

Since I just recently re-introduced myself to this forum, I am getting in on this thread a little late but.....

Phull Phledged Phillies Phan Here!!!!

Looking forward to the 2010 season and sure hope I get to go to more games than I did last year...Although I consider the 3 I went to important ones.
The first was the pre-season game against Tampa Bay. First batter up, Pat Burrell, met with a huge round of applause from his old Philadelphia Phans. I yelled "hit one out Pat"...and he did, and he got a standing-o. It was a bitter sweet moment, I miss having Pat on the Phillies.

The other important game I was at was the Sept. 30th National League East Championship winning game. Just like in 2007, I was celebrating my birthday.

I have photos and videos of moments during these games if anyone is interested!
