Has anyone had any experiences with pericarditis? I was just diagnosed with it yesterday and am still learning about it. I had to go to a walk in medical center as my doctor was closed so I didn't get as much info as I wanted. I know it's an inflammation of the tissue surrounding the heart. I also know it's very painful for me to move & breath. I also know it can take weeks to months to get better. I will learn more at my doctors when I go tomorrow for another ekg & exam but thought I'd see if anyone here has ever had it & what their experiences were.

My husband had it when he was 19. He was in severe pain with all the symptoms of a heart attack and was taken to the hospital. Mind you he was sick with what he thought was a lingering cold for a while and wouldn't go to the doctor. He was in the hospital for a while. I don't remember exactly what all they did for him as we were dating then, not married. He has had no ill effects from it and is 53 now.
I hope you're better soon.

I have not had it, but I have heard of it. As an asthmatic, I can sympathize with it being difficult to breathe. Be careful, Sue, and let others take care of you for a bit, okay?

My husband had it several times after by-pass surgery. It can be very frightening because the symptoms are very like a heart attack. DH was put on mega doses of asprin and eventually had to have cortisone. That did the trick and he hasn't had a bout in years.
Hope you feel a lot better soon.
