nascar.com has a live leaderboard...
Or you can find your local MRN broadcast on the radio.
They do a darn good job calling the races.
Been there and
Done that ...
Not quite the same as being able to *WATCH* it as it happens.

shoot I still listen to MRN when I'm sittin' in the stands watchin', LOL
For some reason my local country station is airing music instead of carrying the MRN feed like they usually do. I'm trapped with no updates until I can get home and watch.

I rushed home and got to watch the last 9 laps, and I guess that was better than nothing. Still peeved that I couldn't find it on the radio for the drive home. Drove like a bat out of Hades hoping Mark was still in 1st or 2nd when I got to the TV. ESPN Radio was broadcasting a friggin' baseball game.
I'm with you Richard, all of this channel changing is annoying as all get out. At least when it was on Fox it was usually on Fox. My parents don't have cable but at least they could watch part of the races until they left for church.

A bit off topic from NASCAR, but.....
Please say a prayer for Felipe Massa (f-1 driver for Ferrari).
He was hit in the head by a spring from Reubens Barichello's car during qualifying, went into a barrier at high speed, and is under medical sedation for multiple skull fractures.

Surtees's incident is most likely what lead to the suspension of Renault for the next race.
Fernando Alonso's pit crew didn't properly replace the tire on the car during a pit stop and it came off on the track.
http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/26072009/58/renault-suspended-valencia.html
The worst part about the incident with Massa was that F-1 kept replaying the incident over and over. The in car cam on Massa's Ferrari caught the whole incident, from the spring hitting him, Massa losing consciousness, Massa coming to briefly, hitting the brakes, then hitting the barrier. They ran it in slow motion couple times, it really reminded me of the Theisman injury on MNF.
(For those who don't follow F-1, the feed broadcast on Fox and Speed here in the US is F-1's race feed with Speed's announcers calling the race. They talk about whatever Bernie's boys are feeding them)

Another top 5 for Tony! And how impressive Joey, coming from dead last, battling it out with JPM, and finishing 12th!
Too bad Denny and Kyle had such a rotten day finishing 34th and 38th, Mark was a very unhappy man.
I have to say, watching it in person is much more fun than watching it on TV. The cars just go by too fast to see any more than a blur...200 mph, no wonder they're just a blur:eek:
Yep, we were there (we really missed you Amy), had a blast and wow what a gorgeous day it was! We did lots and lots of walking. If you ever go, don't wait to pick up your tickets there and by all means....get a parking pass!!!
As usual I took WAY too many pictures, but if you'd like to see them here's the link:

I don't know much about NASCAR, so can anyone explain why Montoya
was cited for speed out of the pit lane? I thought you would want to
hurry back to the race quickly.
Moesha
07-27-2009, 04:48 PM
There is a speed limit on pit road. This helps to insure the safety of the pit crew members that will be vulnerable while working on the cars during pit stops. The pit road speed is given and the drivers are given a 5 mph grace period. So if the speed limit is 55 MPH, they are allowed to go 60 MPH without incurring a penalty. If they go even .01 over 60 MPH, they are given a penalty, where they have to pass back down the length of pit road at the while maintaining the proper speed. NASCAR now electronically scores eac car's pit road speed by using timing and scoring areas. They judge a car's speed between each of those areas. JPM was scored going over the 5 MPH grace speed in two of those areas.

I am joking when I say this....
Any athlete who loses a loved on in the week before an event should not be allowed to participate in their event/sport.
How many times have you heard of someone losing a family member the week before the event, then winning?
When I heard that DH lost his grandma on the telecast I thought, "There is this week's winner!"

I barely had time to watch any Nascar coverage this weekend and did not know about Denny's grandma until after the race. I still had a feeling it was his week...wore my Denny Gear saturday and Sunday. I was out for today and had to go with Tony, but was still rooting Denny on. Way to go #11!
Tony had a bad day, but still got a top 10 out of it. Just frustrating that Jimmie had a bad day going too, and still got a top #15. Just once, can't they have a really bad day?

No, we weren't able to make it. Just because someone does something constantly doesn't mean they don't get scared doing it.
A stock car set up for qualifying is normally set up loose as heck, and the driver is doing a slide job for two laps.

That's not it at all. I am SO tired of listening to him. I turned the radio off today during his pre-race interview. I mute the TV when he is on. He drives me crazy. Like was previously mentioned by someone else, I can't stand his post qualifying interviews lately either. I think he is full of baloney (and maybe bologna too.) He just rubs me the wrong way. I've listened to his scanner. He wants everyone to pull over for him because he is trying to get in the chase. He had his "farewell tour" years ago. I'm just ready for him to be gone. I even like Junior better than him, and believe me, that's saying a lot! But I know that is the beauty of NASCAR, there are drivers we love and drivers we love to hate and drivers we just hate. He happens to fall into that last category in my house. I'm glad there are others that like him though.
Lady's Human
08-22-2009, 06:55 PM
Tony Stewart Whines on the scanner, Jeff Gordon whines, Jr Whines, Robby Gordon whines.
I've heard Mark complain about other drivers. Mainly under the heading of "Why is XXX runnin me so hard, it's lap 15?"
He drives clean, drives against other drivers the way they do to him, it used to be incredible watching Mark/Earnhardt Sr/Rusty run against each other.
They rubbed each other, but rarely punted each other.
I love Mark's comments about burnouts...."Man, those are stupid. If these kids had to FIX those engines after a race they wouldn't do that."
Moesha
08-22-2009, 07:03 PM
I understand the whining. I've heard Mark tell his spotter to talk to others to tell their driver to get out of his way because he is racing to get in the chase. I think that is tacky. There are lots of drivers that complain on the scanner, and I don't criticize them for that. And there are lots of clean racing drivers. I've been around to watch the old school drivers race. I've been a Bill Elliott fan since the mid 80s. I never cared much for Mark and for the last few years he has really rubbed me the wrong way. I'm not asking that others agree with my feelings, just voicing mine. I'm sorry if I offended anyone. That wasn't my intent.
Lady's Human
08-22-2009, 07:21 PM
The WORST whiner on the radio is Danica Patrick in traffic.
She gets to NASCAR, I'm blocking her channel.
Martin, Earnhardt Sr, the Labontes, Gant, would all give each other breaks at times if it didn't affect them.
With the exception of a few, that seems to be gone.
Moesha
08-22-2009, 07:31 PM
Giving a break is one thing. Practically demanding one is a different story or even thinking you deserve one. The sport is a lot different now than it was 20 years ago also.

If KB had donated a million to the schools He might have gotten forgiveness for his smashing episode. The Guitar he smashed cost Nascar $38,000 to have it built. Have you every seen any racer, in any venue, smash their trophy before. The fact that it was a guitar does not make it Cool. He is a race car driver not a Rock Star, although I believe he actually thinks of himself as a Rock Star. There is no doubt he is a great race car driver but until he learns to win and loose gracefully he will just be a spoiled immature kid to me.

How did I miss that news?!? That is worse the Jimmie breaking his wrist in a golf cart...at tleast that was in the off season! Of course, that is usually the kind of controversy that will lead him to win both races or something like that.
It appears silly season is now in full motion...Bobby Labonte out of the '96 for 7 races, and Colin Braun in. So Bobby goes to the 71 for those races. David, well 1 race with the Wood Brothers, and 3 in a 4th entry for JGR. He may have gotten the best deal in that little mix-up.
And of course Kesolowski to drive the #12 in 2010. How does that affect living arrangements?

Just a little addition (or subtraction as the case may be!)

That's true...alhtough I thought I read HOF would like to have Labonte back this year. It seemed like the Yates (and Rousch) portion pushed Darnell a littlemore due to sponsorship. Labonte could still stick with Labonte, just wouldn't be part of the RPM/Yates connection. I hope Bobby gets to stick around the series.

They will be driving Fords next year. They are taking over Yates operation and adding Menard (mostly because he has a built in sponsor from his dad .) Menard will be taking Reed's place so that RPM will be made up of Kahne, Sadler, Allmendinger and Menard.

Yes, I just saw that on The Speed Channel During Qualifing. I can live with him driving a Ford but wished they had been able to stay with Dodge. I have been a Mopar fan since my first car in 1956. It was a confiscated bootleggers car with a transplanted Chrysler firedome Hemi engine. It still had air springs in the back where they used it to haul sugar. This was one fast car. A real sleeper, because it was a black 52 Plymouth 4dr. Similar to this 2dr

I wouldn't say Denny is arrogant (but I am a fan!). Sure, he can be whiny when he doesn't win, but honestly, what drivers have you NOT hard whine at one time or another? If not on TV camera, listen to them on a scanner. I garuntee they all do. Some more then others, but they all do!

I cant get into paved auto racing on the TV, even most dirt tracks dont do it for me. IF Im there live I can get into it.
If I could get the King of the Hammers (http://www.fourwheeler.com/eventcoverage/129_0908_king_of_the_hammers_09/index.html) (the trailer for the KOH 2009 DVD is here (http://www.kingofthehammers.com/) but there is at least one F bomb), Vegas to Reno (http://www.pirate4x4.com/gallery/main.php/v/vegas2reno09/) , WEROCK, Reno Rocks, Paris Drakar Rally (http://www.dakar.com/index_DAKus.html), or the Ladago Trophy on TV Ild be glued to the set.
ETA: I forgot to mention the Gumball Rally (http://www.gumball3000.com/), yes its on mostly paved roads but its the insanely rich AHs that run this make it entertaining for me.
If I can get my business off the ground maybe Ill be able to afford 2 lines to the house for DSL and I can get good online coverage for the off road events from Pirate4x4.com.

I am truly being good and polite. I loved the race results from yesterday.
You can use Truck Race Jesus or Trucker Jesus.
I just don't know what he thinks about sports utility vehicles?!?!?!?
I greatly admire the amount of fabrication and engineering that goes into building a NASCAR car, but that is all dialed in and allmost a science now.
Building a KOH car/buggy for a sport that has only had two official events, or building a Ladoga car (I have no idea how old the Ladoga Trophy is but Ill bet it isnt as old as NASCAR), these arent dialed in cars for a specific set race track.
I can understand how yall can get behind a certain driver for their skill with a car that is allmost exactly like their competitors, heck I admire the skills of the NASCAR driver that comes in last every time.
I get so much more out of the new offroad racing because none of the cars/buggys are the same. In some cases I get to see the build ups of indevidual buggys long before the race happens.
Im not trying to offend NASCAR fans because I admire the skills of the drivers, fabricators, and the pit crews.
If in NASCAR rubbing is racing, in KOH they dont rub, they will drive right over your car if they cant ram it out of the way.
ETA: If I can afford to, I will be on the lake bed for the King of the Hammers 2010.

You obviously have not followed Nascar very closely or you would not make the statement about being dialed in. I think every Cup driver and crew chief would tell you up front that nothing is dialed in. These crews make changes from start of race to the end trying to get their car "dialed in". Most never do. Track conditions change over the course of the race and so does their setup.
by blue
If in NASCAR rubbing is racing, in KOH they dont rub, they will drive right over your car if they cant ram it out of the way.
There are tracks that rubbing is all that the cars can stand without major damage. There are tracks like Talledega and Martinsville where ramming is just a part of racing.
Rumor has it that Danica Patrick is actively trying to get a ride with Penske racing probably on a limited basis for 2010.

Kyle Busch fans....
A question?
Do you think that if KB kept his schedule to the Nationwide and Sprint series he would have a better chance of winning the Sprint Cup?
The dude can drive-but I think that since he drives all three series that he doesn't focus on the 'prize'.
I am not a KB fan, but seeing him spread his weekends out make me wonder about what he could do if he was 'dedicated' to racing Cup and just a few races in the NWS.....
I wonder what the numbers look like when he does one or two races a weekend as opposed to 3?
You obviously have not followed Nascar very closely

If it was Joey's first win or something, maybe, but this is the 4th time this season that Joey has run Kyle down and passed him with less then 10 to go. I think Joey has just gotten used to the Nationwide series and is that good. I think we are going to see that carry over to the Cup car next year, when he starts going back to tracks for the 2nd and 3rd time. Nascar fans, when they show the in-car camera (roughly from the front passenger seat, if it was a passenger car) - what is the bar, along the driver's right temple, with a logo on it? My dad told me it is to protect the driver's head, but it looked to us like it was far enough away from the driver that his (helmeted) head could easily bounce against the bar. Is it to protect the driver? Is it closer to him than it looked on TV?
Thanks,
Elyse

the top part of the seat sticks out around the driver's helmet on both sides. His head can indeed hit this padded bar but it will keep it from going any further over. It is far enough away to allow the drivers to turn their heads a little bit. Their helmets are also tethered to their necks by a HANS (Head and Neck Support) device to keep them from going too far forward. Even when the car is flipping over the drivers are so strapped and surrounded by safety equipment that their torsos hardly move.

We pray that you would increase their talents and abilities and you would heighten their senses and awareness...we pray that you'll give them a race that we'll never forget. We pray god that we can have a 3-wide, door banging, drag race to the checkered flag today". Crowd is now worked up into cheers. "Father we believe that nothing but good things are going to come to pass as soon as these men hit the gas." It continued on that way getting more animated the entire time.

Yeah that Nationwide pre-race prayer was something...we were looking at each other, just waiting for the people to say Amen...and they did!
Fun times at the track....I'll get pictures up when I get home (still travelling for work), but dang it was cold!! We did get to meet Joey Lagano and Junior Johnson. Just to bad in the end, Jimmie had to win :( At least Kyle won the Nationwide race.

I'll tell ya, Mark was so excited that he got to see Kyle win in the Nationwide and we were right up front to see it!
It was great getting to meet Joey Logano. He's so tall he had to bend over to get a picture with me...lol.
Amy, I think Mark broke your streak of not seeing Jimmie win:o Hope you'll still go to the track with us;) Have a good trip home tomorrow.
It was FREEZING Saturday night. I thought we were in NC not in Ohio! Never really want to do that again!

Nice job safety crews.
Lousy job by NASCAR.
Make a rule about no bumping in the corners, then completely ignore it.
If you're going to make a rule, enforce it, and enforce it evenly.
Oops, nevermind, it was big $$$ teams breaking the no bumping rule, so we'll ignore it.
BUT>.......someone on a no budget team has a motor that is 0.15 cubic inches out of tolerance, we ban 'em, fine them more money than they can pay, and ban them from the garage area.
Give me back stock car racing, please.
Yarborough, Petty, The Allisons....they'd never even have rides in the absolutely vanilla world of modern racing.
Can't have driver's saying anything controversial, now, can we?
Has NASCAR forgotten that they got their break with a fight in the infield during the blizzard of '78?
RICHARD
11-02-2009, 05:20 PM
Almost 24 hours later and I still don't know who won.:o
The cheapest way to enforce the 'no bump' rule is to tape wire coat hangers to the bumpers and let the pit officials check them for bending when they stop for fuel/tires.....:eek:

I refuse to believe that you can drive at 190 mph and be bored.
Maybe at 150?
NASCAR should give the drivers food, phones and CDs- drivers get extra points for eating, texting and cd changing.

When the Indy cars raced in Nashville, they always had a fan line where all the drivers were there for autographs. Danica was there one year. She was so rude! She sat there talking to some other woman next to her. She didn't look at anyone or anything while she was signing things, other than that woman she was talking to.

So, did everyone enjoy the Jimmy Johnson and Mark Martin show? I know I sure enjoyed fast forwarding it (sooo glad it was taped)
Good grief, I know they both are in contention to win the championship, but there was a race going on with 41 other drivers. Too bad it took over 200 laps for them to show any of them:rolleyes:
Nice that Denny came in 3rd but it sucked that both Tony and Joey were caught up in that wreck (super nice that Keselowski was though:D)
Only one more week...I'm already looking forward to next year!
BTW...
Does anyone know what kind of dog was the Pedigree Luckiest Dog of NASCAR winner? I guess since Kyle was of no importance in this race they never showed him during a pit stop and I never got to see what kind of dog was on the side of his car.
