I can go either day and if you'll be sure to be there on Sat. I can also go that day too.:) Wolflady has a dental appointment on Sat. morning so she said that Sun. would be better for her. She's visiting her parents right now and we had planned for her to pick me up and then we'd eat and then go on Sunday but I'm not sure what time we'd get there. Let me know when you can be there in Sat. and we can meet up.:)

Hope this means I'm getting some wurk!

January 3 & 4, 2009, hundreds of the most popular pets in the United States are traveling to San Jose to compete for “Top Cat” at the 25th Annual Tails & No Tales Cat Show. Whether purebred or household pets, they are combed, fluffed, and groomed to purr-fection and ready to strut their stuff. This competition is sure to have something for everyone. It features the finest examples of the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) recognized breeds from the popular Persian and

Maine Coon to more exotic breeds such the rare Siberian from Russia and the mysterious Birman. The Show also features a coloring contest for little cat lovers, a “Find that Cat Game,” a Peoples Choice Award and a Junior Showmanship Competition.

The cat show is open to the public Saturday, January 3, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, January 4, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds, Gateway Hall, 344 Tully Road, San Jose CA 95111. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $4 for children under 12. (2 and under free)

In addition to the judging, which takes place throughout the show, you can see the cats up close while they are waiting to compete and ask the exhibitors any questions you may have. You may also enjoy our Junior Showmanship Competition, where youth between the ages of 8 and 15 develop their presentation skills as they share their knowledge about cats, the different breeds, and cat care. There will also be a wide variety of cat-related items, such as grooming supplies; toys, and gift items are for sale.

In addition to coordinating with a local agency to provide animal adoption opportunities at the show, proceeds from previous shows have been donated to non-profit organizations such as the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) Disaster Relief Fund and the Winn Feline Foundation, which is devoted to health related studies benefiting cats.

Tails & No Tales Cat Club is a member of the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA). CFA, a non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of cats, was founded in 1906 and is the world's largest pedigreed cat registry.

Even though the show was a bit small, we spent all afternoon there looking at the kitties and had a great time! I was almost tempted by an Ocicat that was up for adoption, but managed to resist since I don't want to introduce another cat until I know where I'm going to be. My husband is out of a job and it's a possibility that depending on where he gets an offer we might move...so it's definitely best to wait.
Anyway, I have to give my husband major kudos for his patience. We looked at all the kitties at least 3 times and he even seemed to enjoy it too. :) They had a lot of persians and oddly enough most of the main coons that were at this show were white. They were beautiful. Of course I fawned all over the orientals and siamese kitties that were there.
KAK and I were able to hold a little Burmese female. They are surprisingly heavy for their size. Such sturdy silky little kitties! LOL Overall, it was much needed "cat therapy" for me during the stressful times my family is currently facing.

RedHedd
01-05-2009, 03:39 PM
OMG! They let you actually HOLD a kitty? Aww! Did you guys take pics? White Maine Goons, eh? They sound cute and very fluffy!

krazyaboutkatz
01-05-2009, 04:30 PM
Yes, I also had a great time but I always do.:) Sorry no pictures this time. Don Juan's Mom was also able to attend afterall because she said that she also needed some "cat therapy".

We also got to pet some Turkish Angoras and an adult and a kitten Ragdoll. All of their fur was so soft and silky.:) There were a lot of kittens and adults up for adoption but we had to resist the temptation. I didn't even buy anything at the show except for a diet coke.

The lady at the entrance area said that they had to move to this smaller hall because they were booted out of the larger one. It didn't even seem like any one was using the larger one this weekend. She also said that next year this show will most likely be held towards the end of Jan. instead so that then they may be able to hold it in the larger hall. It'll also help those that may be away on vacation to be able to attend the show.

Hopefully there will be a few more good local shows that we'll be able to attend.:)

RedHedd

I've always wanted to handle a Ragdoll! I've heard they're very soft and floppy

wolflady
01-06-2009, 01:25 PM
Yes, I certainly hope we can get more shows in the area. I think having this one at the end of Jan would be better since most people would be back from vacation.
The Ragdoll's fur was so silky soft like cloud. They certainly are as soft as they look.
I managed to resist any purchases this time around as well, but had just as much fun! Oh, and I also found out from one of the ladies in the Oriental section that the woman I adopted Phinehas from has come back to CA. She had moved to Oregon about a year or so ago, so I was happy to hear she's back in the area. I sent her an email to catch up and gave her and update on how Phinehas is doing.

I think what Tracey and I are going to do is have breakfast around 10:30am on Saturday and then will head up to the show from there which would probably put us in Pleasanton around 12:30 I'm thinking. Perhaps we could meet just inside the entrance where you check in and pay your entry fee?

I was trying to find a coupon for the Pleasanton show so I found a website and e-mailed a lady about it. At first she replied that she didn't think that there were any coupons available for this show. I just received another e-mail from her and she attached a flyer that states that if you mention this ad that you receive $1 off of admission.:) I'll try to attach the flyer. I printed out a few to bring with me.

That was so much fun!!! Seeing all the beautiful kitties was amazing! I actually learned about so many breeds....many I'd never heard of before.
I did fall in love with two breeds. The Maine Coon (which I already loved before the show) and the Japenese Bobtail. They've got the best personalities. :D
I did get two pictures (woo hoo!) of two Maine Coons that I'll post later. I'm exhausted right now. LOL

It was so wonderful to meet Tracey and Karen (krazyaboutkatz and wolflady). They made the show MUCH more fun for me. :)

Now I'm off to take a little nappy poo. :p

wolflady
04-04-2009, 08:23 PM
Cindy, it was really nice to meet you! :) Those bobtails were really cool. I hadn't really seen very many before, and seeing them in the ring and how quirky their purrsonalities are made me like them so much more! I don't think I had ever seen a korat before, so that was cool. Other cats that I hadn't seen before included a long hair selkirk rex, long hair scottish fold and some la perms. I guess those haven't been shown in the CFA as long as they have in TICA, so just within the last year those have started to be shown at the CFA shows.

I think Cindy got a picture of Stevie Ray - LOL - cool name, huh? He was a very handsome main coon.

While we were there, we spoke a little bit with my breeder Linda who was helping with one of the rings. 3 of her kitties were there as well including Jeeves, Phinehas's son! One of Malachi's brothers was also there being shown. It was nice to see them again.

Tracey and Cindy made the outing more fun, so all in all it was a really good day! Hopefully we can do it again soon.
**hugs**

krazyaboutkatz
04-04-2009, 11:02 PM
I had a great time too but I always do.:) It was great to meet you Cindy and I'm glad that your first experience at a cat show was a good one. Hopefully there will be some more this year around our area so we can do this again.:)

Karen, you forgot to go back and buy that catnip hemp mouse for Malachi. He probably would've destroyed it quickly any way.;)

Sounds like you had fun. I  Maine Goons! Did they have a big red one like my Mishi dude?
No, they didn't. They had a white one, several silver tabbie's, and I think that there were a few calico looking ones with mainly white bodies. I think that Cindy took a picture of one of these.

There were many Persians as usual and I was also surprised to see a lot of Sphynx's there. I don't know if Sphynx_Luver was there or not. I was wearing my PT hat but no one ever came up to me to ask what it meant. One woman did comment to me that it was a very cute hat though.:)

04-05-2009, 11:56 AM
Here are the two pictures I took. And now that I have them uploaded I'm discovering they are horrible pictures. I'm sorry. :(
Next time I'll take more pictures because I won't be so in awe over all the beautiful kitties. :)

This is Stevie Ray. He is a little over a year old. Just before I took this he was sitting very regally in his cage and was entranced with a man that was also looking at him. Unfortunately I didn't get a pic of him with his beautiful eyes open.
http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q47/Taz_Zoee/April2009001.jpg

And this is 5 month old Ashley. Apparently she wasn't entered in the kitten coompetition. I don't recall seeing her and that's the one category we watched the whole way through.

I had a bed with hearts on it in her cage.
This was my first time showing.
I did take pictures of Cleo in her cage.
Sorry I need not know to look for anyone with a pt hat.
I will be showing in Fresno next.
