The rat who started it all passed away this morning. He was my foster failure. His owner had been staying with his friend and his friend's aunt and uncle. The owner upped and left, leaving his rat behind. He has been battling a myco flare up for a while but I think he was getting up there in age too. He has been steadily losing weight but last night when I got home at 1am, I noticed he looked extremely frail. I woke up this morning, went to the cage to greet the rats, and noticed my favorite rat wasn't in his beloved cube. I haven't even had him for a half a year yet but my heart still feels like it has shattered into a million pieces.

RIP Sweet boy.. mommy misses you

Oh no! Cheese was my favorite of your ratties. He was so adorable. I am so sorry he is gone. :( You saved him and his last months were the best!

RIP Cheese

I am so sorry to see this. Although I may not be the biggest fan of rats, but Cheese definitely stole my heart with his TV star good looks. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. He was lucky to have spent his last few months with you.

I must agree with Ginger's Mom. Rats aren't my favorite animals, but Cheese sure was a cutie. I really enjoyed seeing the pictures of him when you first brought him home. I'm sorry that you didn't get to spend more time together. At least Cheese was able to have a wonderful home with you for awhile.

Awww, rest in peace, handsome Cheese!
At least he knew he was loved loved loved for the last few months, and I am sure you will meet him again At the Rainbow Bridge some distant day. Until then, picture him curled up in a little rattie ball tucked in a corner of your heart, because although he was meant to be a "foster" he found himself a spot in your heart, and there he will always be.

I'm also sorry that I didn't see this sooner.

Thanks everyone :) I'm still hurting but I'm slowly healing. The boys are handling it really well but Livia hasn't really been interacting with the remaining two boys. I hope she comes around :(
