Hi,
A co-worker was talking to me about her cocker spaniel who pees whenever someone comes into their house. She is a spayed female, who is a young dog (i'm not sure of exact age), and she was crate trained. To my knowledge she is healthy. She wags her tail, but pees right away.
Can anyone help with some ball park ideas on how to help this situation?
Thanks :)

She needs to be acclimated to visitors arriving. What do they do when company shows up? How do the humans react? Do they fuss over the person or the dog? If she confined to her crate or not when company arrives? Lots of questions, I know, but all important.

Thanks Karen,
I'll ask my co worker when I next see her. I'd like to help if I can :)

Oreo had this issue when we first got her. Through time and some training, she has outgrown it.
First, we had to make sure that there wasn't a medical reason for her "leaking." Sometimes female spayed dogs have what my vet calls "spay incontinence," but the main symptom of that seems to be leaking while sleeping.
After we knew she was healthy, we tried encouraging calm greetings. Here is a quick tip sheet from my local Humane Society about Submissive/Excitement Urination:

I'll bet you can find more about submissive urination on the Internet. Hope that helps!
