That was great.

I like the mother of the boy comment: my son knows better than to remove campaign signs....

Does he? Srsly?

What did the tape show he was doing then? Dusting it, while holding a replacement sign?

The man was absolutely in the right. Although, he'll probably get sued or something.

BTW, I don't care which party's campaign sign it was, for the record.

It's interesting to me that no one has posted on here about this yet. Maybe everyone is sleeping late. :p

I think it is more likely because it was a McCain sign that was being stolen. PT's Obama's supporters sure get themselves worked up when anything is posted indicating that Obama was wronged in any way but fail to see any wrongs committed when the tables are turned.

Politics aside, this just points up what I posted when the original thread was posted by a PTer who had played "musical signs" and switched McCain and Obama signs on their owners' properties. Private property is private and should be treated as such. No one has the right to remove anything off anyone's lawn no matter how trivial. Lucky for those involved in doing this, there have been no injuries. Should someone do that to the property of a very unstable individual, who knows what could be done in this day where people own guns and are not afraid to use them on their neighbors. *sigh* I hope the parents who enlisted the aid of their children realize the values they are instilling in them.

The boy's dad said he just wanted to see how the sign was put together.

YAH, RIGHT! Nothing like teaching your son to lie and BS.

The sign owner does not face charges.;)

Private property. That's all they need to tell the kid and the parents. You were on my property, you were touching my sign (or whatever else), you paid a price for it.

The kid and the dad should be happy it was only hooked up to an electric dog fencing system. It could have been much worse.

The guy who did it should also post something to cover his butt though, as well. "Touch at own risk" or something. Cover your butt is the motto today in this lawsuit happy society.

We had a few 18 year old girls here arrested about a week ago for stealing some yes on prop 8 signs, prop 8 is a proposition to not allow gay marriage, it is currently legal in california.

Both girls have a rap sheet now, I defenitely think its wrong and it is sure getting ugly on both sides, I can't wait till its over.

I think that's a bit of a broad and generalizing statement. Anyway I feel it is wrong to go onto someone's property and take anything without permission. It would not matter to me what the sign had on it. I also think even general Halloween type pranks are wrong, egging or TPing, whatever it may be, is vandalism and invasion of someone's property and is wrong.

No Pam. I just don't care. Take an Obama sign...take a McCain sign...take a Paulson sign. Can't get excited.

All I CAN say is please...when it is over...take ALL the signs! Pretty please!

I think that's a bit of a broad and generalizing statement.

You may be right as I have already happily been proven wrong. :) I just feel that this particular campaign has been extremely negative and especially here on PT. One person in particular has been so rude that I have been using my Ignore button. We all have a right to disagree but, as the saying goes, not to be disagreeable. Name calling and such has gone overboard here of late and I have pretty much stayed out of the Dog House because of it.

I agree Pam, that it has gotten disturbingly nasty, with a total loss of respectful behavior towards others. Not just here but everywhere you look. It seems a particularly vicious election and I will be glad when it is over. We can only hope some of the anger and hate fades, on both sides.

Okay, I am confused. I can't watch the video, but I did read the article. The young boy had already stolen an Obama sign, and he was in the process of stealing a McCain sign. Showing that 9-year olds don't really have any party affiliation but think it's fun and/or funny to steal signs off of people's front yards. Did the video in some way indicate that they boy was going to replace the McCain sign with the Obama sign? Did it indicate that some adult put him up to it? Or is this just some immature juvenile stealing signs because he thinks it would be neat to have it in his room?

ETA: I just reread the article and see that the homeowner said the boy wanted to swap the sign. I can only assume the boy told him that when he went outside to see if the boy was alright after being shocked (yes there is sarcasm in there).

I saw this on Fox News yesterday and they talked to the homeowner on the phone. I had to laugh at his ingenuity.

I'm a McCain supporter through and through but I will say that the kid had an Obama sign under his arm already so I don't believe it was politically motivated, just stupid kid pranks.

Here in commie-pinko Ann Arbor, things can get pretty ugly! ~

=============>
Ann Arbor man backing GOP gets nasty surprise
• (http://www.mlive.com/annarbornews/news/index.ssf/2008/10/ann_arbor_man_backing_gop_gets.html)

In a decidedly Democratic town awash in a sea of Barack Obama political signs, William Wedemeyer knows he is going against the political grain with the McCain-Palin sign he proudly displays on the front lawn of his Ann Arbor home. But Wedemeyer was taken aback when he recently received a package in the mail addressed to "Joe Six Pack" and containing a couple of bags of dog feces.

>>

Wedemeyer reported the incident to the Postal Inspection Service. An inspector said they are investigating and that mailing injurious material is a felony punishable by up to a year in prison.

Wedemeyer said he learned the package was mailed from the post office on Stadium Boulevard and that the person paid for the postage with a credit card.

DUHHHH... Looks like the not-quite-so-smarty-after-all-pants responsible is in for a nasty surprise him/herself!

NOw that I have said the politcally correct thing.

Serves the little AH right. And I hope there is no way that the parent can sue.

Of course, besides the tresspassing charge, maybe theft or vandalism the kid will skate and the bleeding hearts will castigate the person who rigged the sign up.

Next time rig it with a punji pit, land mines or a 240 volt line.

Sure, your son know better than to steal signs and play with electricty too?

I agree this is a broad generalization and I see it's been acknowledged as such. I am a Obama supporter. I think stealing signs shows a lack of respect of property and personal expression. I too have used my ignore button on several occassions and am avoiding the DH due to the lack of respect I've seen on posts here. Interestingly not one of the above posters are on that list :p I will say that reading some of the other threads, my opinion on a few people has changed. Some for better, most for worse.

Me too. Those posting as of this moment have been agreeable and, though I have differed on things with them in the past, there has been a mutual respect which has grown over the years. The "offender" has not posted in this thread and, should they, I will not know what was said as I can't read it. (Love that little feature!) ;) Let me just say that I am not for either candidate. I do not like McCain but my dislike for Obama runs much, much deeper. I wanted Ron Paul to get the nomination (wishful thinking) but the Republicans will have to deal with who they selected and unfortunately will probably lose.

I really wanted to see the kid flop on the floor like a flounder out of water.
As it is, it wasn't as 'tragic' as people would lead you to think.

First,

If I had come home and told my parents that I was shocked trying to steal a sign, they would have both kicked the living shiat out of me, then made me go back and apologize to the man for even thinking about stealing, then when I got home they would have kicked the shiat outta me again, just in case I forgot on the way home.

Incredible chutzpah for that dad to come back and even think about complaining.

Moron.

I do not vote, nor do I have an opinion on any props or presidents AT ALL. My only complaint is people getting their children involved. The other day at a busy intersection each corner had about 10 people holding up Yes on Prop 8 signs (again, I don't vote and don't have an opinion either way), this is the gay marriage one mentioned earlier. There were small children out there holding up these signs. I didn't like that one bit. And as I said even if they were holding up No on Prop 8 signs, I still don't agree with the children being out there.

As for the sign on this mans property. As most others said, it's PRIVATE property and this kid is trespassing and stealing or causing destruction (I'm not even sure of the details).

I didn't read through this entire thread. So if my post is now off subject, sorry. :)

What about signs on public property or common property? Are those "fair game"? Who decides if the signs can go there and which signs? And who gets to be offended if the signs are taken (I don't think stolen can apply here?)

And who cleans up later??? (We know the answer to that one!:rolleyes:....no one!)

And who decides how to vote based on what signs are in someone's yard?

That's what I keep thinking - do the signs really matter in the end?

I think it's sad enough he even had to go as far as putting the shock on it. It just shows how you have to worry about these type of things happening to your sign. I've never heard of a sign being touched here, no one really has any signs around here then again.

RICHARD

Here's my problem with the whole political sign problem.

First of all,
To pay 10 bucks for a sign that someone is going to steal, egg your house over, get shocked or killed over-Someone did get shot, I didn't get where, I just saw the story posted today- is kinda lame.

I look at it like wearing the low rider jeans with the underwear brand name on the elastic waist band.

It's that phony, "Look at Who I Wear!" attitude that no one cares about. Then it happens to a grade schooler, they get a wedgie from the tough guys on campus- it is an assault- but you can really have avoided the whole problem buy keeping your pants pulled up and not inviting trouble in the first place. Joe Boxer, Klein and all the other undie designers are like politicians, They really could give a loaded diaper about you, as long as you 'buy/support" them by spending precious time or money on making them huge.

After they get your money or vote, you are no longer needed until the next election or the elastic stretches on your shorts.

Now my next peeve?

I really love it when people spend 10 bucks on a sign thats printed up by the local 666 printer's union and the steel stands welded up by Iron Workers/Teamsters-way to keep the economy going. I laugh even harder when I see them turned insider out and being used to promote stuff after the election-

YARD SALE
1234 MAIN
10/31 to 11/3

Or

For Sale
83 plymoth duster
300 or obo?
Runz good/a.c./8trk

Even better when the losers are banned to "recycled sign heaven"
The one thing that bugs me is the idiots that staple the poly signs on telephone poles about 12 feet above ground.

They drive a car next to the pole, climb on the roof and staple their hearts away. I have to look at "Ace Hoole- 37th Assembly - A vote for your town!"
sign until the first week of May 2009 now that ultraviolet light has shredded it up enough for it to fall off the pole, into the sewer and down to the ocean for a turtle to swallow the plastic shards and die.

Yep, Strut you party, affiliation, your candidate, but for crap's sake, clean up after yourselves. You care about recycling, pollution and trash in the streets, but it's back to being irresponsible on November 5th.

Amazing.

And please don't be surprised when I laugh at your 8 year old political bumpersticker. Well, at least to take your trash with you!:eek::o

McCain supporter turns away children of Obama supporters during trick-or-treatDiane Sweet

A Metro-Detroit Michigan woman refused to give candy on Halloween to children of Barack Obama supporters.

Shirley Nagel of Grosse Pointe Farms gave out treats Friday evening, but only to those who share her support of John McCain and running mate Sarah Palin.

Fox 2 News reports a sign posted outside Nagel's house, about 12 miles west of Detroit, served notice to all trick-or-treaters. It read: "No handouts for Obama supporters, liars, tricksters or kids of supporters."

Nagel told a Fox 2 reporter that "Obama's scary." When asked about children who'd been turned away empty-handed and crying, she said: "Oh well. Everybody has a choice."

The following video is the Halloween night report live from the home of the McCain supporter who turned away sad, crying children and toddlers.

You can see the video on the link....

maybe not for the top of the ticket, but the name recognition for the down ballot names does help. i have a sign for a county commissioner candidate in my yard. three weeks ago a neighbor, who i haven't spoken to except for "hi how ya doin, nice day" stuff asked me about my candidate, so yes, i think it can help.

It's worked that way for me too. Every 2 years I post the same sign for
a candidate for state office. It's a 2yr term office. I've gotten a lot of
questions & been able to provide info on the candidate. It does make a
difference sometimes.
