Our golden puppy, Luke, is 4 months old, and he has a really waxy right ear. They were quite waxy when we got him, we cleaned them for a couple weeks and used an anti-yeast medication on the right one, and it seemed better. Fairly quickly again, however, they are pretty waxy, the right much more so than the left. They don't seem to bother him, he doesn't scratch and shake. My RB Jake had terrible allergies most of his life, but amazingly, almost never had ear problems, so I"m not quite sure if this is normal or a problem.

Any ideas from Golden Retriever owners? He has a vet appt soon for shots, so I'll ask there, but I"m guessing I'll send up with medication again, which I'd rather avoid.

thanks

I've heard of dogs getting bad ear infections due to the food they're on. Could be that?

We were told it was the type of ear the dog has....our dalmatian never had any ear gunk, but Boomer (springer spaniel) has to have his cleaned out all of the time.....We've even had to put him on ear drops. My sister had a golden who had the same types of ear problems....it is something about the type of ear that flops down....I guess air can get in there and yeast can grow easily. Our dog trainer told us to put plain yogurt in ice trays, freeze them, and give Boomer a couple every night. We did it for a while, then just got lazy. I actually think they might have helped, though...certainly didn't hurt, and he loved them!!!

It's a retriever thing. Ivy has Labrador ears and her ears are atrociously waxy. All I can say is - OtiRinse is our best friend! :D

Jack, part Labrador, has the same problem.
