October is Domestic Violence Awareness month and I'm asking everyone here to remember that domestic violence can and often does affect pets as well as women & children.

Yes, everybody forgets about the innocent pets that suffer and sometimes die in these situations.

THATS SO VERY SAD AND TRUE AS THE PET IS OFTEN IN THE FIRING LINE WHEN TEMPERS FLARE AND PEOPLE NEED SOMETHING TO PICK ON IN THE HEAT OF THE MOMENT.
AND THE POOR PET IS STUNNED:eek:, AS IN ITS OWN MIND CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY HIS LOVING GUARDIANS ARE POUNDING AND KICKING THEM.
THERES SO MUCH ANGER AND FEAR OUT THERE NOW A DEPRESSIONS COMING AND SADLY THERE MAY BE A LOT MORE ABANDONED AND LOST ANIMALS IN THE LEAN YEARS TO COME.:(:(:(

It's so easy to read a dog if there's so much as loud voices in the house. I've read that owners often lose their pets during a violent outburst in the home. Some pets are so sensitive to this that if they have a chance to run through an open door they run and keep running. To them their life seems to fall apart when their owners fight and bicker. I've always found it so unfair that unstable homes with violence are allowed any pets, the animal is the one to suffer the most....seems there should be law to protect pets from this kind of thing.

Here's a list of Safe Havens for Animals (http://www.hsus.org/hsus_field/first_strike_the_connection_between_animal_cruelty _and_human_violence/safe_havens_for_animals_/online_directory_of_safe_havens_for_animals_progra ms.html) in the USA. Different services have different names in different cities, but I'd be very surprised if any of them would turn away a volunteer host for an abused woman's furkids.
Anybody got a similar list for Canada?

Maybe we could all take the time to give back to organizations who help fix domestic violence issues. Like shelters. Donations of time, money, or items are a great way to give back.
I'm in complete agreement. Time and money are the most needed.

Fighting and domestic violence can affect animals in ways we can't begin to immagine. They can't exactly tell us what they are going through either :(
Thank you for reminding us to keep ALL victims of domestic violence in mind!

I THINK THAT PEOPLE ARE NOT AS MATURE :eek:AS PREVIOUS GENERATIONS WHO WENT THROUGH TOUGH TIMES.
THEY HAVE NO IDEA OF HOW TO CONTROL THIER TEMPERS.
I AM ASTOUNDED BY HOW MANY WHO HAVE LOUD PROFANE ARGUMENTS BASICALLY IN PUBLIC!!!
WHAT HAPPENED TO NOT AIRING YOU DIRTY LAUNDRY.
WHAT A POOR SCARE PET TO DO WITH SOME MUCH UNLEASHED ANGER.
AND WITH A RECESSION COMING ITS ONLY GOING TO GET WORSE WHEN THE SPOILED POPULACE CAN NO LONGER AFFORD THIER TOYS AND GAMES.
