Andrew's childhood dog, Dyna, got hit by a motor cycle last night. Dyna came to Andrew as a birthday present when he turned 8(Andrew is 23 now). She's 15!
She has lost her hearing and has very bad cataracs (sp?). My mother in law was bringing in some groceries from the car and Dyna got out of the house. Martha didn't notice it. She went inside and starting looking for Dyna, but couldn't find her. she went out and looked for her in vain. 2 hours later, a neighbor 2 blocks away called (Dyna was wearing ID tags) and said that her son accidently hit Dyna with is motorcycle.
Dyna is now at the hospital. The vet says that she has a broken rib, so cuts that got sticked up, and a broken jaw :( They don't know how well she will heal because of her age. She has surgery this afternoon to try and fix her jaw. They will have to use wires and pins. Not sure what that is all about.
Keep Dyna in your thoughts. Andrew is so frantic. He will be coming to GA on Friday afternoon right after he is done flying. We are not sure how well she will do. And if she is in too much pain and there isn't much that can help, the family will let Dyna go. If it comes to that, I hope Andrew gets here in time to say good bye :(

Keep us posted, I'll keep Dyna in my thoughts, hoping for a speedy recovery!

Marth has been to the hospital to check on Dyna and the vet says she is stable for now. If she remains stable, then they will have surgery this afternoon at 2:00 PM.
I am going to try to go by there today when I get off work and stay with Martha. Andrew's father is out of town on business and my poor mother in law is alone through this all. It will be a long drive to work in the morning, but I think she really needs me there.
I hope Dyna pulls through this. Thank you all for your concern and prayers.

This news is very sad. :( I pray that God's hand will touch everyone involved in this accident. I believe Andrews mother must be sick with worry and grief over this. I pray the Lord gives her strength and understand to deal with this especially since she is alone. I pray that no decisions need to be made before Andrew arrives and finally that the healing hand of the Lord will touch Dyna.
It is so sweet of you to think of Martha needing you too Souraya. I'm sure she will appreciate you being there.

So sorry to hear about sweet Dyna!! :( Those old dogs tend to wander...Smokey is 16 and he's constantly wandering around the house now. I'm glad she was at least well enough to go through the surgery! I hope she will make a full recovery, please let us know!
Thanks for keeping us posted! I don't know the time difference from here to there, but Dyna is probably in surgery right now. She's in my thoughts

I am terribly sorry for not posting last night. By the time I left work and got to Andrew's parents' house, it was around 7. I got stuck in rush hour traffic in ATL. I stopped by the vet's to see Dyna and she was still kinda dazed. She is all stiched and bandaged up. She has a wire contraption looking thing around her bottom jaw. Looks a bit like braces but not on her teeth.
Then I got busy helping Martha around the house and walking Magellan (their GSD) who had been cooped up all day because of all that was happening. A thunderstorm hit right before I was going to get online. So, I went to bed. I had an hour drive to get to work. It usually takes me 10 minutes!
The vet said she was looking good. She is still very week and won't eat. They are feeding her with a tube :( She will have to stay till she gets strong enough to go back home.
Andrew will be here tonight at around 6. The vet closes at 6 but we have made arrangements with them to allow Andrew to come visit. One of the technicians was sweet enough to volunteer to stay behind on a Friday evening.
Thanks again for everything you guys. I will update you when I know more.

Andrew got to the vet's office much later than planned. There were horrible thunderstorms on the way. The vet tech was ever so nice. We took her out to dinner to kill time after Andrew called to say he was running behind. He finally got there at 8! He spent about an hour with Dyna. She really perked up when she knew he was there. She can't see or hear very well, but she knew that was her boy!!!
We brought Dyna home on Saturday at noon. She is very sweet and is slowly recovering. Marth is a first grade teacher and has gotten special permission to bring Dyna to work with her. Dyna needs antibiotics and pain medicine for a bout a week or so and Martha works too far to be able to go back and forth during the day. So, Dyna will be going to work and hanging out with the kids. She has gone to class before and the kids just love here. They know she is old and fragile and they are very careful with her.
Thanks everyone for your prayers. Dyna has a long way to recovery, but it looks like she is going to be OK!

Dyna is doing as well as she can. Martha and I spoke on Tuesday and she said her kids are so happy to have Dyna with them. They are so careful when they pet her and a few have even brought toys for her. Martha told them they couldn't give them to her yet because she wasn't allowed to chew on her jaw yet, But they do help feed her but holding the bag and Martha tube feeds her. She will be able to eat a soft diet on her own in another week :)
Thanks for checking up on her.
