Naylee is at the vet

My poor girl is at the vet waiting for her surgery to amputate her toes and the tumor between them. This is beginning to be more of a headache than a worry day for me. I brought the vet her records on Monday and I got a call today saying they were going through them and needed a rabies certificate (apparently the vet record stating she had a 3-year rabies shot was not enough proof). They also asked me if I knew a dog named Shelly. Shelly is Naylee's name from the rescue group. I brought old record from them attached to the back. Knowing the dog is rescued should kindof give a hint that when the dog changed hands from the rescue group to the new home (as stated on her records) she may have gotten a new name. SO I called her old vet to fax the rabies certificate and they tell me there's a $500 bill for the dog at their clinic. I tell them "no, that's not the right dog, thats the formoer owner's other dog, I need Nayeli's records". So after talking to a brick wall for a while she says "ok so we need to fax over Adah's records to your vet". Once again "no I need a rabies certificate for Nayeli". "Are you sure". "Yes". Grrrrrrrr. Now I'm waiting for my vet to call and ask "who the heck is Adah?" (Adah is a chihuahua, not mine) Honestly, I thought my vet looked over the records days ago and would be done with the surgery by now. They haven't even started! This is why we used to go to the most expensive vet in town when we could afford it and not the brick wall idiots. I trust once they get going they'll take good care of her, but I'll be ready to explode.

I hope all goes well and Naylee makes a speedy recovery. I had read your original post where you thought it was an abcess, and just a day or so later saw a piece on t.v. where they were talking about tumors between the toes, and how in most instances they have to take off at least part of the toe. Hope she doesn't have to endure too much discomfort and that she will be getting around as good as new before too long! :)

Sounds like you really had a time of it. Take a deep breath and relax a bit. I know sometimes things like that get very frustrating, especially when multiple things happen at once. I can't say for certain since I wasn't there, but it's possible that all the headaches were just a series of coincidences.

I can tell you from experience that some vets keep records in a very different manner than others. This can cause a great deal of confusion in deciphering another vets records. We've had some show up at work that we can't tell if the date for the vaccination is the date given or the date due and have to call for clarification. The rabies certificate problem you're having could be something along that line.

As for records having different names, I can't count how many times clients have brought us records for one pet, but had a page or two from a different pet mixed in with them. If the names don't match then we always have to question that so we aren't recording incorrect information which the vet is legally responsible for keeping accurate.

As for the receptionist, sometimes they are doing three things at once and can get overwhelmed at times if it's busy. Most likely she found the $500 balance with her accounting program which may or may be listed simply under the owners name, rather than by pet and when she looked up Nayeli's record the previous owners info came up.

I'm not saying that is exactly what happened but I could easily see it as a strong possibility and you just got hit with the backlash.

I hope things improve stress wise, and I hope Nayeli's surgery goes well and she recovers in no time.

Just wondering how Naylee is doing.

Naylee is home. She's completely out of it can barely keep her head up. I had to endure a full 2nd shift before getting to see her. My grandma picked her up from the vet and she went to work with her and slept the whole time. I was surprised and very happy my grandma took her with her. She didn't want her being alone with my sisters in a playful house right after the surgery. Now I have to worry about getting the kennel downstairs, I'm just going to carry her up to it tonight because I'm too sore from work to take it all apart and bring it down. After that its bandage changes and cleaning sutures. And I'm not sure how I'm going to get her to swallow the horse pills, she doesn't really go for any particular food I can stuff them in.

Btw: absent minded vet cleaned her teeth and says she definately chewed on rocks at some point. Kept asking me about it as if she does it at my house. Makes me feel like I'm the one who neglected her and leaves her outside to want to chew on rocks. They keep asking me how long I've had her. I keep telling them I just got her 8 weeks ago. Then they ask my grandma the same questions. I really wish I could afford the expensive vet again, they were a lot better at keeping up with this info.
