Poor Naylee stepped on something this weekend and now has an abcess between her toes. We thought it would clear up on its own when it first happened because how many times have the dogs stepped on things and cut their feet a little and were fine? Now I have a sock over it because she can't get into the vet until first thing tomorrow morning, they are full with emergencies right now. Hopefully she won't pull the sock off to chew on her foot. To top it off she's going to have to wear a muzzle because she's so sensitive about her feet and I can't afford to be sued because she nipped a vet in fear. Poor little girl needs some quick healing vibes so she can be up and playing again in no time.

Edit: Strike that. It goes to show how much she likes me picking at her feet or I would have noticed it didn't look like an abcess. All I could see was she had a large lump where there wasn't one before, and then she'd yank her foot away. It just happened that she started licking her toe the day after my sister dropped some fibre optic cables from her lamp so we assumed she could have stepped on one.

The vet looked at her foot for two seconds and got a very serious look to his face. She has a tumor. A kind that spreads quickly and he wants to get it all if he can. Naylee's going to have her toe amputated next Wednesday, and maybe the toe next to it. And she's going to have a teeth cleaning at the same time.

My poor baby. I'm so worried. Its not fair that she just got to a home where she could go to the dog park and run, and she's just learning to play with toys, I want at least a year with her. The vet is optimistic, but he doesn't like doing surgery at her age, but I'll have none of that. She's got plenty of spunk for her age.

:(:(:(:(

OH no!! How old is she again? Sorry, I can't remember.

I will be hoping that her surgery goes well and you do get to have her around for YEARS more.

She's somewhere between 8 and 10, but I do hope the "years" part will be right.

Aww, poor Naylee. I hope they are able to remove the whole tumor with only minimal removal of her toes. Dogs are very resilient, don't be surprised if after a few months she starts running again.
