IF so, how excited are you for the new season?
It would be easy to pick the Wings to repeat... But my finals pick is Chicago vs Montreal. Montreal wins in 5 games.

Jen... If the Penguins can keep in the hunt until Gonchar gets healthy, they have a chance. But loosing him is a BIG blow. Also, when he comes back, he needs to hit the ice running.
I like the Penguins, especially after Fleury ditched the obnoxious yellow pads. LOL But with their D weaked as it is, they are going to need to score a truckload of goals to stay in games.
I hope they can do it.
Hey, I have to live vicariously through other teams. My Sabres, well, they are going to have a tough year I think. LOL

Smokey... If Marty can stay healthy for 3 more years, he is a cinch to break Roy's wins record. And a lot of other goalie records.
But he DID jinx himself a little. LOL He has a new mask design this year.

Well really I don't know if they will take it all the way or not. they seem to have bad ju ju in the playoffs lately even if they are stellar in the regular season.

I know, we really NEED Gonchar back. Our defense is hurting. They also really have to play with the lines to see who is going to work well together, after the changes over the summer. I thought that they looked pretty good on Saturday, but Sunday not so much (although I didn't actually see the game since I wasn't home, but they lost 3-0 so it couldn't have been good..). Well, it will be fun to watch them again this year, in any case.

Don't worry about the 3-0 score. The Penguins put a lot of rubber on net, but Auld was a wall. Ya got beat that night by a good goalie.
Indeed... The Penguins, if anything, will be exciting to watch. They play a fast, north south kind of game. It will be hard to trap against them. BUT, that north south kind of puck movement can lead to turnovers... So Fluery is going to have to be good and not give up goals on weak first shots.
Malkin plays on the left side, right? If so, if I were the coach (LOL) I would run a left wing lock. At least with his line out there. If anybody can change directions in a hurry, its him.

Been a Penguins fan from way back! Went to Pitt for a few semesters (before I decided I didn't know what the heck I was doing in college at that point...) and loved watching the games. We were one of the few apartments that paid for cable, so we'd charge admission for the games, and that would cover the expense for the refreshments, lol. Fun days back in 1990 and 1991.

NASHVILLE PREDATORS!!!! I wish Scottie Upshall still played for them, ugh such a hottie. Upshall, Tootoo, and Klein used to play for AHL team- Milwaukee Admirals. Going to those games were intense! Now that those 3 have moved on up to the Predators, Admirals games just aren't the same- pretty boring. Tootoo puts up some pretty good fights! My boyfriend was a season ticket holder so we got to meet all the players and had some of the best seats in the house- 3 rows up from the ice- right next to the opposing teams tunnel enterance.
I wish I had a lot of money, I'd love to see an NHL team in person. When I was in Nashville I stopped at the arena to have a look around- some day I will see a game! Hopefully!
Had Klein autograph many pictures and my bf's Klein jersey...(don't mind the red lines)

We do have some great arenas here. I do like the Honda/Pond/Anaheim/whoever paid for the name arena, Concerts are good there, rodeos and roller hockey, when they had a team.

I had a brief fling with a hockey player back in '99/'00, and really followed the Dallas Stars as a result for a couple years until the strike, and since then, I haven't really been paying attention. I love going to the games, and would never turn down the opportunity. But, I don't watch on tv anymore. It's a great sport to watch live, though!

I'll take it anyway I can get it lol, on tv, live, on the radio. I don't care lol. I have listened to many a habs game on the radio before my center ice days... doesn't have QUITE the same magic but better than nothing :D
Our AHL team here is Hershey Bears... but their home opener isn't until October 18th or 19th I think. So we have to wait. We took Hannah to her first hockey game there when she was three months old LOL. can't wait to take her again and take her to see CoCo (the mascot). Although most of the players from the past couple of years are now up with the Caps. they aren't my favorite team but they do have my favorite goalie :D so I can't wait to go see them play this year.
WOOT... Go habs 6-1 win over the Leafs last night *does happy dance*

From ESPN -
Hossa gave Detroit a 2-1 lead for good with his first goal. He picked up a loose puck just inside the Atlanta blue line, cut in off the left wing, used a fake and a toe drag while cutting across the slot on defenseman Mathieu Schneider, a former Red Wing, and goalie Kari Lehtonen and put the puck into the empty net.
This was a high light goal - for sure. If you get to see it, you will understand. I kept re-winding, over and over.
Then there was this that happened in St. Louis tonight -
Ex-Red Wings goalie injured on Palin red carpet
FREE PRESS NEWS SERVICES
ST. LOUIS — St. Louis Blues goalie Manny Legace left after one period Friday night with an injury that might have occurred when he tripped over the carpet placed on the ice for Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
The Alaska governor dropped the ceremonial first puck before the Blues hosted the Los Angeles Kings. A narrow carpet walkway was placed from the gate at the Blues bench for Palin, her husband and two of her daughters to walk to center ice.
Just before the ceremony, Legace was the first player onto the ice for St. Louis. A team official pointed to the carpet, but as Legace stepped onto it with his skate, he fell, then gingerly made his way to the crease.
After that, the team official rolled up enough of the carpet so other players wouldn’t have to step on it.
Legace played one period, giving up two goals on 12 shots. After the intermission, the team said he suffered a “lower body” injury but did not elaborate.
He was replaced by Ben Bishop, making his NHL debut.

Oh man... that's as bad as leaving your skate guard on when you hit the ice. How many times do they have to step on a red carpet before going on the ice lol.
All I have to say is GO HABS GO.
halak is playing GREAT which means we might be able to get a good trade for him at the deadline. Price is playing like himself... ice water. our offense is great as usual. the big change has been our D. they aren't perfect but our big problem has always been allowing an onslaught of shots on the goalie one after another after another and so one. we seem to be doing MUCH better at taking away the rebound. :D

So of course, some critics are now bringing up the notion that hitting needs to be removed from the game.
This play was a clean hit, period. The idea of checking in hockey is to take the puck carrier off the puck. It is not Weight's fault that Sutter had his head down at the last second there. Weight did not jump, lift his elbow or do anything illegal. In fact, it almost seems to me that he realized what was going to happen at the last second, when Sutter put his head down. If you wathc the whole video, I think Weight felt sorry for the kid... But what are ya gonna do? We learn from the first day we are taught the contact part of the game to keep your head UP. ESPECIALLY in the neutral zone.
Lets hope Sutter makes a good recovery and learns his lesson.

I watched the clip before I read the rest of your reply, but everything you said is what I was thinking while watching. It was a clean hit, and though I've never played hockey I've heard my boyfriend say it enough to know...you're supposed to keep your head up through the neutral zone.
I hope it looked worse than it was and I too hope he makes a speedy recovery.

SO far this year I have seen two of the side panels get broken. I think one was at a Ducks games the other was at the Kings game this week.
Yep, hitting is part of the game and people should have their heads up display on. Weight could have been looking a little forward to see that Bettman is going to do when he gets the video of the hit.
When some takes a hit or delivers a hit like that it is part of the game, but you can line someone up and take them out of the play, not their skates.
When you have players over 6 foot and 200-210 lbs on the ice playing against forwards who are giving up a few pounds and inches, it's just a matter of time before another player gets really hurt and I mean career ending hurt.
Hitting is part of the game but the giver has to take responsibility for the hits, too.:(

I hear what you are saying... but that doesn't really apply to this case
Doug Weight is 5'11" 196 and Brandon Sutter is 6'3" 183
the problem here was lack of experience. You NEVER NEVER NEVER put your head down coming through the neutral zone let alone bend over to poke at the puck. dough Weight was doing his job... There is no possible way he could have stopped the hit when Sutter bent over. Gary Bettman better not hand down ANY suspension or anything else... that was a CLEAN hit plain and simple. You can't start suspending guys for clean hits because someone got his bell rung.
Career ending injuries are usually the result of cheap hits. Off the top of my head I can't think of any player who has had his career ended by a plain old check.
I believe that hits from behind should be zero tolerance. if you are called for boarding... the league hands down a suspension... NO MATTER WHAT. that's what I think needs to happen. Instead they analyze each hit from behind on a case by case basis and most of the time there is no suspension. I think that's wrong. THAT is how guys get hurt. I think something like that needs to be consistent... YOu hit from behind... you get suspended PERIOD. THAT is what they need to start cracking down on.
