Barney passed to the bridge yesterday. He came to me as a "throw away dog". His owner was taking him in for euthanisia due to moving to an apartment that didn't allow dogs. He was an outdoor dog his entire life, but with me he got a cozy bed, an indoor home and as much love as I could give.

Barney was always a bit standoffish with me, but over the years he learned to love, learned to trust and learned to be a dog.

Barney was a foster failure - he was 9 when he came to our organization and no one wanted him. He had advanced arthritis, chronic ear infections and never totally bonded to humans - but I think he was happy with me his last few years. At least I hope I gave him love and comfort during his senior year.

Barney - I miss you so much and I only hope that I made your life a bit better. I'm so sorry I didn't have you at a younger age - your life could have been so much more had you had a family that made you a part of their everyday lives rather than a family that threw you in the back yard and ignored you. You had a hard life and I can only hope your life was made a bit better in my home.

Run hard at the bridge sweet boy and never forget that there was someone that loved you.

Even though Barney spent nine years with the other people and only a few years with you, you will be the one he is watching over and waiting for at the Rainbow Bridge. I am sure he recognized and appreciated all of the love you showed him, even if it took him a long time to learn how to return it.

RIP Barney.

Clara, I am sure Barney loved you in his own way & you definately made
his life better & brighter than it ever could have been with his old "owners".

You gave Barney love & comfort he would have never known. R.I.P. now

I think Barney is probably grateful to have had a few good years rather than none at all. It sounds like he loved you very much.
I hope happy memories of the good times with him will give you some comfort.

Run free at the Bridge, Barney, there's lots of pups there to play with, places for napping in the sun till you meet your Clara again one day.

Please don't ever doubt he knew what love was, it may not have come to him early but God blessed him when he found you for him. My prayers are with you.
RIP Barney
