Not sure how many of you remember, but my rescue budgie (the one found in someone's trash) Sweetie was pet of the day awhile back.

I'm a bit late in posting this, but Sweetie passed away on July 6th.

She had to be rushed to the vet on a Saturday afternoon after sudden symptoms of not being able to perch or even move her wings or legs. I figured she'd had a stroke from her symptoms.
She was also having problems breathing.
Not two hours previous she had been acting normal, all the way down to normal droppings.

She was diagnosed with a severe respriatory infection, kidney failure, and liver failure.
The latter were brought on by the poor diet given to her in her previous home.
The infection was secondary.

Euthanasia was an option, due to her failing liver and kidneys, but I did decide to try to treat her infection then see how she was doing.

She was given an injection at the office, and was sent home with meds to be given twice a day by mouth.

She seemed to be doing okay that night, and the next day...by Saturday morning I knew she wasn't going to make it. She'd started refusing food, medication, and had a dirty vent.
We took her in for an other injection and IV fluids as she was dehydrated, and took her back home to hope for the best.

Tim & I went out for the rest of the day for a family reunion.

When we came back Saturday night, Sweetie was barely alive.
It seemed mainly like she was hanging on until we got home to say goodbye.

We took her out and took turns giving her goodbye kisses and cuddles.

She died about an hour after we got home.

I have no idea how old she was, she may have been a very old bird for all I know...on that note, she may have been a very young bird.

In the end, her liver and kidneys just gave out.

Another little rescue budgie, from less awful circumstances, moved in recently, but I still miss hearing Sweetie yelling at the other two, or just sitting on the playstand chattering away to herself.

There are videos of her doing just that at http://ubergoth.net/buddy

Oh this just breaks my heart!! All I can think is of my precious Azure, and hope and pray that nothing like this ever happens to him. It's so hard to watch them suffer, and now Sweetie isn't suffering anymore. I hope that your new budgie will comfort you! :)
