First, from the email I received today:
In his nomination acceptance speech last week, Senator John McCain said, "We believe in a government ... that doesn't make your choices for you, but works to make sure you have more choices to make for yourself."
But John McCain has spent his career removing women's right to choose! >>
This comes as a surprise to those following the Republican convention, where neither he nor vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin admitted their anti-choice beliefs to the American public.
Indeed, a recent poll says half of all female McCain supporters are pro-choice, and more than 70 percent of those incorrectly believe McCain is, too.
Throughout his service in the Senate, however, McCain has repeatedly voted to slash funding for low-income family-planning programs, against allowing women to obtain birth control and to take away women's right to choose.
Palin's record is no better, as she vehemently opposes abortion and used her line-item veto to eliminate funding for a program that would help pregnant teenagers in Alaska.
From part of the Petition Page:
Senator John McCain pledged at the Saddleback forum that "I will be a pro-life president and this presidency will have pro-life policies." This pledge is no surprise to Americans who have followed McCain's record of joining with the Bush Administration to take away women's rights and reproductive healthcare options.
It is a surprise, however, to many women who support McCain. A recent poll says half of all female McCain supporters are pro-choice, and more than 70 percent of those incorrectly believe McCain is, too.
Throughout his service in the Senate, however, McCain has repeatedly voted to slash funding for low-income family-planning programs, against allowing women to obtain birth control and to take away women's right to choose.

Well really anyone who actually pays attention.... I don't understand how anyone could think otherwise. it is painfully OBVIOUS where they stand on abortion. It's no secret and they haven't tried to make it a secret.
I will not be signing the petition. Sorry

Well apparently some women ARE as stupid as the Republicans think they are. How far does your head have to be in a hole to NOT know their stand on choice? 70%!! Explains a whole lot. Oy vey!

I must say I like John McCain. I think he is seasoned, intelligent, kind, hardworking and tough while still be a nice guy. However I do not agree with his pro-life thoughts and he will not get my vote because of that.
I also like Hillary, I believe she was tough, intelligent and had her pulse on the nation, what we needed and wanted.
AS for Sarah, mean, tough, closed minded it's my way otherwise you will go to hell
And her daughter, forcing those kids to marry at such a young age is so 1859. Did you see the look on the boyfreinds face:eek::eek: That kid wanted to run for his life. He was probably thinking that little hottie wasn't worth 15 minutes in the backseat of his car. Now I am stuck with her and a kid. My life is ruined. The chances of that marriage lasting is probably about 15%. If they lose the election my vote says that young guy will be running out of their's lives as fast as he can. Sarah is making them get married so she won't look like a high and mighty moral mom having failed. Hey Sarah didn't you have one of those mother daughter talks with that little girl, not so little now is she?

Part of the problems with being in Congress for 30+ years is many younger
people have no idea who John McCain really is, or the way he thinks about
women, for example.
Ever hear his joke about the woman who was badly beaten & raped by a
gorilla? Oh, it's hilarious. NOT. I'm convinced,The guy has
has no respect for women at all.
Oh well, I'm out of here.:(

Here I gooooooo!

If women made the right choices in the first place they would not have to worry about some knuckle draggin, hairy arsed idiot male making up their minds.
It takes two people to make a third.
Women trust men and men trust women when it comes to doing the dirty.
Because some men cannot be trusted it sometimes falls to the women to be smarter and more cautious.
All BC is not 100% reliable-
Just say no. Men are not held accountable and women suffer the consequences. It's two letters and one of the easiest ways to keep from getting into trouble, then having to blame third party for making a decision for you.
No wonder people are ticked off about government making a decision for them.
We are way too effing stupid to care for ourselves.

Yes many women do have a choice .but for all the ones that don't.
For the 12 year old and her new step-dad, for the young girl and her pastor, for the mom walking along in the parking lot holding her two year old or the young woman working two jobs and coming home late at night. These woman need to be able to choose. For those I fight to protect their rights, their freedom, their future.
For every woman who cried herself to sleep wondering what to do, where to go and who will help and understand.

I seem to have missed your point.
I am talking about women who become pregnant. Not about other social issues. Some people don't have the brains to make decisions for themselves.
Every problem has a solution. People put themselves into jeopardy by not thinking about this before they act. For every person you fight for, there are three more that don't have the brains or self respect that they need to make the right choices.
Until then you will always have that fight on your hands.

I am talking about that. The too friendly step-dad, the oh so nice minister or girl scout leader. Sometimes woman and girls through no fault of their own are put into a postion not wanted, asked for or deserved. Then what, the holier then thoe Sarah now wants to make them victims again, because after all she knows what is best for all.

Anyone who does not know their position on the issue has not been paying any attention at all.

If you are talking about unconsensual sex you are talking about another social issue.
I do favor abortion in those cases. I also would like to see more jail time when the male is caught.
The subject has been presented in SP's case. She has a Down's child and her unmarried daughter is preggers. Both instances were consensual and no where was the issue of rape mentioned in the petition.
I am amazed that issues are presented in a cut-and-dry format with little or no thought about other facts that may impact the way people feel.
Has anyone bothered to find out what JM's position in on rape?

According to an article in our newspaper today, when Palin was mayor of a town in Alaska, that town charged rape victims for the rape kit... It was the only place in the state to do this, and the Alaska legislature passed a bill prohibiting this practice state wide. The police chief supported charging the victims because "in most cases, it was their insurance which paid."
Goodness, the things we learn during an election. I would never have believed a town would do such a thing!

NOW, did she put the law into effect or was it in effect when she became mayor? Are there any articles or minutes from town hall meeting where she proposed and voted for the law? Can you post an article about the law? Who enacted it and the history of said law?
Do you know where the tests take place in the case of a rape? THe mayor's office? Back of a police car? Maybe the emergenxy room, at the hands of a health care provider/nurse? Do they tell the patient, "Can you afford this cost of the kit? Because we will bill you for it?"
Small towns do not have the finances/facilities to furnish some public services such as rape kits to crime victims-those services are provided by clinics or hospitals. Are you sure it was the police department/town and NOT THE HOSPITAL THAT WAS CHARGING AS PART OF THE EMERGENCY SERVICE?
What are the rape numbers per year and capita for the town she was mayor of? Could we look at the number or rape kits sent to the town as a bigger problem? Is it a money making scheme? Who gets the money? The mayor?, the hospital? The police chief?
BTW, I can see why the PC would support a charge like that.. It makes his job easier I am sure he wants to take any rapist off the streets of his town. Also, the people expect him to do his job-usually the townsfolk do not want to pay a few extra dollars in taxes for any services.
Please post an artcile. THanks.
