Eden (4 y.o old) & Brynn (almost 2 y.o old) plotted together, and some how squirted whitening toothpaste in our DQ rescue kitty's eye.. They said they were holding him and it "squirted on his face".. But more than likely they were trying to brush his teeth and he moved his head and it got in his eye.

We flushed his eye out with water as soon as we saw it, used a warm washcloth on it, and he is still on his antibiotics that we got from the vet.

I just want to make sure this isn't going to make him go blind, or we need to take him to the vet. His eye is pretty red, but its starting to look a little better.

Any tips or advice would be appreciated. We now have Buster in a new crate that they cannot get open, and a child proof thing on our doorknob so they can't go into our room.

Wow, that's one I've not heard of before. Hmmm, since I've never heard of that happening at work the only advice I can give you is just give your vet a call. Have the toothpaste tube handy in case he/she asks about ingredients in it. They should be able to tell you over the phone if it's something they need to look at or if just flushing the eye and time will take care of it.

Good luck.

I bet you're exactly right about how the toothpaste got there! If they want to brush the baby's teeth, you can get critter toothpaste, and I always preferred an infant toothbrush over the critter ones.

As for the eye, I'd flush it thoroughly, with contact saline if you have any.

How is the kitty doing? I agree with the infant's brush, it is softer for their gums, this is what we use for our babies toofies.

He is doing great.. His eye wasn't red anymore after about 30 minutes or so.

I finally got Eden to admit that she was trying to brush his teeth. She said "My teeth were cwean, so i wanted his to be too."
