Puff has a HUGE abcess on her ear! *PICS* post 16!

I noticed it 3 days ago(Sunday night/Monday morning), and could not get into the vet until today. The appintment is at 4:15, but I decided just to "pop in" early. My vet gets in at 10am, so I will be taking her shortly.

Please pray that she is ok, because her ear looks AWFUL! I know she is in pain, and I should be ashamed, because I could not take her to the Emergency vet earlier. (they only take credit cards, and I dont have one).

I will post an update when we get home. I just love my Puff. Her and Hannah were my first kitties, and I feel so guilty, and I hope that she will be ok. Good thoughts for Puff please:(

Abscesses get so big so fast, I am sure the vet will fix her up lickety split.

Do you think it could be a hematoma? If it is, the ear flap would have been filled up like a balloon and the liquid would be red. A cat can get this if it shakes it's head too much, often from earmites or some kind of ear irritation.

I was thinking hematoma, also. Those are actually more serious than you might think and require surgery to fix completely, and unfortunately in most cases it isn't cheap. :(

Just got home! I was there FOREVER! My vet did not get in until 2:30 today. I got to see her at 4.

Puff has an abcess. From what it looked like, it was 3 cat bites, and one went completely through. I am SO angry at Kohl.. I know it was him, he always is mean and bites her ears, this time he just went too far.

She is home and resting, her ear was shaved. She is on a anti-inflammatory/pain killer twice daily, and on clavamox 2 times a day also.

By time I got there, it had burst, and blood was all over me, the carrier, Puff and the car. You ought to have seen the looks people were giving me, like I hurt her or something:rolleyes:

Anyways, I have cream to put on it too, because the Dr. said it might have damaged the tissue, and if that is the case, she would need surgery, but that is unlikely, she thinks. She lost one pound since the last visit(10 months ago) and her temp was high (104.9).... Because of infection. BUT she does feel not so hot/feverish now.

Thank you all SO much for the prayers and well wishes! I will try to get pictures of her later, now that she does not look so gruesome:D

Here are a few pictures when we got home and she got cleaned up a bit! Her sissy Hannah is staying with her in the spare room for the night(the only room in the house that is a no cat zone:rolleyes: ). I do not want another incident anytime soon!
It is looking better already... I am so glad she seems to be relieved now.

Sending positive thoughts for puff to be just fine, i am sure when you get some antibiotics into her and get the pus drained out it will be fine, my ellie had one on her cheek, luckily it burst of it's own accord and with gentle squeezing by me and antibots it cleared up just fine and in no time, thinking of Puff and hoping for a good result.

Wow! Poor Puff! I'm sure she must feel better already though now that the abscess has drained and the pressure is relieved.
Both Puff and Hannah are so beautiful! Hannah looks like she is being very supportive. :)

Thank you all. And please dont think that I neglected her in any way. When I noticed it (I do nightly checks on every cat, because I am neurotic!) it was tiny, just like a half of a marble. It did not get BAD until yesterday, and her appointment was already scheduled. The E vet would not see her without a credit card. It got bad, literally overnight. Poor little baby.

And Hannah and Puff have NEVER been apart, even for 5 minutes. They are birth sisters from a feral/stray cat... They were fixed beside each other, and then I placed them in a cage together snuggled up. They do everything together. I dont know what one would do without the other. I even take both cats to the vet together, for support:rolleyes: It really seems to help!

Oh my gosh!!! Poor Puff!! I know abscesses can go from bad to worse in so little time. Calloway had one on his tail and his rump when I got him. The tail one didn't clear up and it burst. I felt so bad for him!

I hope Puff will start to feel better soon, and that her ear will be ok. I didn't realize Kohl was such a bully! Wow! Kick his butt when you feel better, Puff!!

Sending prays and hugs for Puff that her ear heals up fine. Poor baby. Don't worry we don't think that you neglect your cats at all. Trust me when I don't see something on my cats or something I freak out and call the vets and hope that I can get seen.

My vet is very nice that I use because she doesn't make me pay the full amount right away even though I wish I could.

Oh poor Puff, that looks so sore, I hope you get better and don't have to have surgery, your meowmie is trying hard to help it get better. Sunny has a floppy ear from a bad blood abcess too, that she had before we adopted her, but she's still beautiful, and you will be too puff even if your ear droops a little bit! Hey it adds to the character ;)

I'm so sorry that you have such a big ouchie on your ear. :( I hope you feel better very soon and that nasty ouchie will go away in no time. Please remember to take your medicine and let Meowmie and the whitecoat help you. My Meowmie always tells me that the whitecoat is my friend.

A few of us from Cat Court are going to have a talk with Kohl and try to convince him that he should play nicely with you. We'll explain to him that it's wrong to be rough and cause ouchies to other kitties.

I just love the picture of the sisters sitting next to each other you can just tell that they love each other. Hannah seems like such a little sweetheart....I do have to agree that those ear bites are nasty..It doesn't take long for them to develop into a issue. That is why I always get after our big orange cat cause he thinks that is the only way to show who is boss..... It scares me everytime he pins one of the girls down. He gets them in lbs. alone not to mension his teeth.... So I complete know how frustrating it is to see one of the kitties ear hurting....Its good to hear that she is doing better...Prayers to poor puff and a kiss to sweet hannah! You have beautiful kitties....
