Last night it got quite cool here in Vermont. From 3AM onward, the cats have been running around, biting each other, playing, getting things down from table tops, you name it, they are in to it. I have never seen them act this way. Now that Gabe, the newest kitty, has been here for a few months, they all seem to enjoy having an extra target around to play with or jump on. I think they have all gone out of their minds! Does anyone else sense a change in their pets' behavior related to the temperature?

Sally, no, cool weather has not hit here in southern Kansas yet. However, whenever we do have a cool-rainy day, my furkids appear to be more happy and play much more. Yesterday it was very warm about 95 deg. outside. All afternoon, the just laid around on the floor sleeping. But by the end of Sept., temps shoul begin to go down at night at first, and then I'll have to buy them extra food, so they can scarf up for winter.

The cooler, more activity, which means running around without caring what they hit on the way, just as long they can run run and run!

It's still not cooler here in Az :( But I'm sure the cats will like it once it's not 100 degrees outside. If anything at least I'll like it once it's not 100.

It is in the 80s here...the kitties love to play chase in the evenings I guess it is in the 70s then. Yum Yum loves to go outside after it rains and I guess she runs through the woods and is all wet when she comes back..ickies!

Oh darn! I was hoping it would rain on Saturday. I really need to do some cleaning, and I hate staying inside and cleaning when it's warm outside. I actually feel guilty because I feel like I should be outside while I can. Afterall, I've got all winter to clean. Terry is busy working at a trade show all weekend so I guess I'll have to spend some time with Tubby & Peanut. Maybe take them outside for a bit. Yeah, that's it, that'll give me an excuse to just lounge around for awhile - something I haven't been able to do much of lately.
Oh, and to make this relative, no, Sara is right, it needs to cool off first, but I know Tubby usually gets more active when it's cooler - which in turn makes Peanut more active. Hopefully soon we can test this theory. :)

I don't know if it's the temperature so much as it is a change in the air pressure. My cats go zany when the air pressure drops; whether it be because of a temperature change or a storm coming in. Tilly and Bassett are goofy in the mornings here, being more active and playing more, now that the air pressure drops more in the night time :D

Like myself, my cats are much happier and more active when the weather is cooler. Unfortunately we still have high temperatures for many more weeks.
Sasvermont, can we come live with you?:D

Our cats are much happier in cooler weather too. I am too, that means they all snuggle with us at night! :D

I've noticed it too! I love September in Oregon, the mornings are brisk and the afternoons are mild - its the best month of the year.
Our kitties finally love us again - they're coming inside more at night and are definately more responsive and energetic compared to a month ago. Their appetites are picking up also.

This morning it was a bit cooler here in southeast Kansas, and my furids as well as myself felt much better. I did notice that they were much more active than yesterday or the few preceding days:)
Also, I have picked up on their desire to be in sunlight. Just before sundown, the cats enjoy laying in the last rays of the day's sun -even though it is hot. I'll be glad when it turns cooler, because then they can lay in the sun withoug getting too hot.

Yes, I've noticed this to be true. It's been a lot cooler here the last few days and my cats have been much more active. At first I thought that it was getting close to a full moon, but then I realized that the temperature has been much cooler lately. :)

We had our first cool day today and this is how Corky and Tibby decided to spend their day.

Yes, cool has change my cats personality. It was really humid and hot this month and the whole summer here in Toronto but it got really cool this morning. I have three cats and all of them are chasing each other, running all over the place. They are very active. I think it has something to do with the weather.

The weather is nice again, back up into the 80's (27-30 C). Which means that I don't see much of the kitties once again. That's what happens when you have a cat door.
(we'll know that the weather is colder the day we wake up to a "4-cat" morning ;) )

You speak the truth like nothing before. I call my cats heat mongers...cause as soon as it gets a little nippy, I have newly found "friends". I can't move in bed because I get suitcased in by cats! Good thing I have cats rather than lions, I would get smooshed!!;)

Well, it has finally cooled off and Edwina, being an avid reader of Pettalk decided its time to be more active! This morning after she performed her back yard check from the screen porch she came back in and had a wrestling match with my gym bag. Jump, roll, kick. It was like two kittens wrestling except Edwina was the clear winner. My bag is COVERED in cat hair.
Then it was time to attack her favorite mousie. All of this required a great deal of noise -- as I was still suppose to be sleeping!
Then she pushed open the bathroom door where my husband was showering so the light in there would shine directly in my eyes.
Then she went for a nap.

:D :D That is so typical. They do everything they can think of to get you up, then when you finally can't take it anymore and get up, they're ready for a nap.
I noticed it was getting cooler because Peanut jumped in bed in the middle of the night. Tubby sleeps with me all the time. He'd be in bed with me if it was 105 degrees out. But in the summer Peanut will normally sleep on the runner which is on top of cool tile. Of course then we have to walk on the cool tile so we don't step on her because she blends in so well in the dark, completely defeating the purpose of the runner. Anyway, Peanut will only sleep with me when it's cool. So it was about 2:00 am this morning and I get this little brown creature climbing all over me. It's not enough to just jump on the bed and sleep next to me. Nooooo she has to sleep on top of me, even when I'm sleeping on my side. This takes a little bit of balancing on her part, so it takes awhile for her to settle in, and by that time I'm fully awake. Then I can't get to sleep because I'm afraid of moving and tipping her off. Finally I rolled onto my back so she got a nice flat place on my tummy to lay. Then I think her little motor put me to sleep because the next thing I knew the alarm was going off and Peanut was nowhere to be found.
Still not much more activity, but we've been busy and not around much, so maybe we'll get some action this weekend when we're home. :) :D

Yesterday, I was sitting on the couch next to our kitty, Jan. She is a Dr Jekyll/Mr. Hyde kitty, and you never know which one she'll be at any given moment.
I put her on my lap, expecting her to stay for maybe a minute or two before leaving - but she settled in and stayed for 10 minutes!
We figured that she knows that she needs to be nice because it's getting cold again. (or maybe it's because we haven't turned the furnace back on for the season and she wanted the warmth)
I sure like the nice version of her.
