Last night me and hubby went to dinner after he got off work late. While entering the restaurant, I saw the cooks out back talking to a cute orange and white kitty. We went in to eat, and while leaving, I saw her again. I got out kitty food and she came running. It is very clear she was dumped there.

I reached down to pet her and immediately got sick to my stomach. You could feel every single bone on her back. I looked closer ( it was DARK behind the restaurant!) and I could see all of the bones on her head too. I felt so bad for her.

Anyways, since my husband was with me, and was complaining and in a nasty mood to begin with, I had to leave her. I did check to see with my cell phone if she was a she or he! On the way home I kept begging Rickie to let me take her, but he would not budge.

SO- I posted an add, and found 2 people willing to take her. One here in my hometown, and the other in Mass.

The one from Mass said she will pay for her to go to the vet, the health cert. to fly, and the plane ticket to get her there.
I will pay the vet and buy her the cage(it is only fair for me to pay that part). This woman and I have been in contact before, and she does rescue..

The other lady said that she could take her, fatten her up and vet her, and rehome her... OR if not, just adopt her herself.

I just need to talk to them both over the phone, to see what is best.

Anyways, I just need prayers that when I go back today she is still there, and I can get her a loving new home, with someone who WONT throw her out like garbage.

And RANT- To the scumbags who left her in that horrible neighborhood, and busy intersection- May you rot for what you did to her.

Oh I hope that she will still be there and you can help her. It could even be that she escaped from a loving home and has been on her own looking for scraps to stay alive since she allowed you to pet her. Where I work we are near a couple of restaurants. In the past I used to see literally a dozen or more kitties out by the dumpsters. They were 100% feral and would run at the sight of me. I assume they were eating restaurant leftovers and many times cringed at the thought that they might go in the dumpster when it was trash day. I don't even want to think too much about that. :(

I wonder if she might be to thin and ill to fly? Although the lady in Mass said she would pay for the checkup.

I wonder if the lady in your town could foster her while she is being vetted and fattened up, with the Mass lady paying for it - unless the local lady decides to keep her. A bit of a tough call. I would hope the local lady would involve the vet in kitty's care!

I have not talked to the lady in Mass, but I do think it best to adopt her locally. The flight would have to be a last resort.

I picked her up about 2 hours ago. She is in a cage in my spare room. She is VERY HISSY AND SNAPPY, because she is scared, and scared of the other kitties. She can smell them in that room, and it is freaking her out. Now I am worried to send her to any home if she does not like other cats.

I will add pictures soon.

I think once she starts feeling better physically, she will settle down. She's young enough to adapt.

Does the local lady have other cats?

I could not get any pictures of how tiny her belly is. I have a video I am going to download.

She is already doing a little better. She is laying in her bed and purring, wanting me to pet her..

The local lady has 8 dogs (4 chihuahuas) birds, a frog, bunnies and 3 rescued kitties. So I dont know what to do. But she will get her fixed, keep her indoors, and keep her no matter what. I just dont know what to do...

Find out how she is going to introduce the new kitty to the household. And do the dogs get along with the kitties, or are they kept separate?

AND keep on looking for another person, just in case.

There is a local independent rescue that will take her. BUT I have come to distrust ANY ONE PERSON who does private rescue. Personal reasons....

What a pretty girl! ;) Did you have to trap her in order to get her or did she allow you to pick her up? No matter where she winds up you have saved her from a possible death sentence living on the street. Nice job - we are all proud of you! Our hero(ine!) :) I will stay tuned! ;)

Pam, I had a long "chat" with God on the way... I asked him to show me that I am doing the right thing by continuing to rescue cats, even though I am completely overwhelmed right now... And to please make this an easy rescue.

I drove up to the restaurant, pulled in back where the dumpsters are, and she was standing in front of them. Just like she was waiting for me to come back. I called her to my truck, she ran over, I picked her up, plopped her into the carrier with a can of cat food, and we came home. It has been raining with severe thunderstorms all day long, so when it cleared up I went to get her. It was about 12:30 am when I got her. :D

I sure hope she has a happy life. And that I can make a decision soon. I get attached very quickly... And I know that cats do too. I just can not afford more vet bills every year. With the 15 cats, 2 dogs, and the ferals, It is really a HUGE hit in the pocketbook come shot and exam time!;)

Please pray for her. And that she does good with other kitties!

Love, Katie and kitties

PS- I named her Honey. And I know she does not look that skinny in the pictures, but she is.. She always sits compacted, so you cant tell...

Will say a little prayer for Honey right now that the perfect home will come along quickly. I wondered when you were going to cave in and name her. :p That can be a dangerous thing because when they have a name somehow they are like family and you can't re-home a family member. :p Maybe a co-worker might be interested? That would be nice because you could still see her occasionally.

I imagine your hubby did one of these >>>> when he saw you bring her home. That is what mine would have done. :)

I understand and sympathize about vet bills. I only have two dogs and one cat now, and even when they are well it is a blow to the checkbook after a visit.

You've done such a good job and I know that you'll make the right placement w/Honey. She looks exactly like my Creamsicle (in her younger, thinner days :p)! You've really got your hands full and I can certainly understand why you wouldn't want to take on any more cats. My vet bills have been crushing lately and I have the amount of cats that you do. Whatever your decision, I have confidence that it'll be the best for all concerned. :)

Ok. Decision is made. I have been talking with a nice lady named Melanie. She lives about 30 minutes away from me. She has other rescued pets, and wants to adopt Honey.

She said that she is taking her in the morning to get her tested/vetted. I am going to call and put some money on the account at her vets tomorrow as well. She doesnt want me too, but I am anyways.

She is a very kind woman, and her husband as well. They were not looking to adopt more pets, but she said she could not stop thinking about this kitty. So I figure that is a good thing.

I am going to do a home visit in about 2 hours. She has 3 teenage kids, 2 girls and a boy.

She owns a real estate business and her husband owns a mechanic shop. She is going to sign a contract, and promises to keep in touch. I just hope she does.

I will update as soon as I find out if she is a proper home or not. But I have a great feeling about this! Wish us luck!

I had to LOL at myself..I read this

"I did check to see with my cell phone if she was a she or he!"

and thought.."My that must be a fancy new cell phone to do THAT!" ROFL. Then I thought, oh you ditzy blonde, she means the light from the cell phone! LOL!
Wouldn't it be great though if you could equip a cell phone with a chip reader??:p Then you could tell if a stray belongs to someone!

Anyway, our thoughts are with you that Honey finds the perfect furever home and it's an easy adoption for you. Thanks for helping her out.

LOL! I guess I should have been more specific!:D:o:p

And yes I would buy one of those cell phones!

I went ahead and let Melanie adopt Honey. She was really nice, and I think she will give her a wonderful life. I will go to visit her in about a week. She is going to the vet tomorrow, and if healthy enough, she is going to go ahead and get her spayed.

I just hate that part of the process. Everything else is a piece of cake.

If only I had unlimited money, space and time.... I would keep them all.

Now that she is adopted, I am going to be getting the feral kittens in this week, and try to make an appointment for momma to be fixed. She already looks pregnant, and her kittens are only around 5 1/2 or 6 weeks old now:eek: I just can not let her have another litter of babies...

Another week starts:rolleyes:

Today kitty was taken to the vet to get tested, vetted and spayed.

The vet said she has ear mites, is negative on all disease, so they went ahead with the spay. Since she was so skinny, noone knew that she was actually pregnant. I feel so bad for her, but I think it is best for her. Since she is so skinny and frail, the vet will keep her until Wednesday afternoon.

Please pray that momma cat is ok, and that the she has a wonderful life from now on.... Melanie says she is so sweet and she is glad she adopted her!:D

Katie,Thanks for keeping us updated about her.:) I'm so glad to hear that she was negative on all of those nasty diseases. Ear mites are very easy to treat so I'm sure she'll get rid of these in no time.

I'm sorry to hear that she was already pregnant:( but I'm so glad that you were able to rescue her because she and or her kittens may not have survived. I hope that she recovers quickly from her spay. I know that she's now in good hands and has a very loving forever home to go back to. Please pat yourself on the back for another wonderful rescue.:)

I'm just now seeing this but it sounds like a great outcome for Honey. Her new home sounds like a very good one.

I'm sure she will do fine from her spay. My Scout was pregnant when rescued but they didn't know it until the spay. She suffered a hematoma (sp?) at the incision site but that had nothing to do with the pregnancy. She recovered 100% quickly.

You did good Katie!!! :)

Great job Katie, I too know the problems with multi cat homes. All we can do is try our best. It seems that you have done just that. If we had a bigger home we, like you, we would have many more but space is limited. So you just have to draw the line some where. Good luck and god bless.
