Ranger is still with us as his mandatory 3 business days are not up yet (we have to keep them 3 business days to give an owner a chance to reclaim their pet). He will be available for adoption on Sunday, June 15th though.

Ranger has a 6-12 month old injury on his left rear hind leg. Something to do with a crushed pelvic bone. His leg is useless but it doesn’t seem to affect Ranger at all. He can still get out of his collar when he feels like it J He has been in the lobby with me most of the morning and gets along just fine with another dog that tends to run away. Ranger also has a fondness for cats and keep sniffing our shelter cat, Boo. He is a sweet dog that has had a hard life thus far.

We are a county run shelter so euthanasia is always a possibility with our animals but we try to give them every chance before having to resort to euthanasia.

Our shelter phone number is: 812-273-1788 and we are open Monday,Thursday, Friday from 12pm-5pm, Saturday 12p-4pm and Sunday 12p-3pm. Please leave a message if you get the answering machine as we may be out in the kennels with the dogs and not hear the phone.

I hope this gives you enough information

Sincerely,

Kristen

Any updates on Ranger? Tomorrow is the dreadful day. I hope he was saved. I only wish I was able to help. :(

Apparently he was given an extra week but still no one has come forward. There are many folks (esp. Jean and Karen) working really hard on this on the handicappedpets.net site.

As Lisa says, he now has til the 27th, before he is destroyed. He does NOT have rescue and he so deserves it.

Jean has knocked herself out trying to find rescue for this boy.

We will ALL be in hiding on the 27th.

Ranger really is a good dog. He'd be a wonderful dog for someone who wants to be able to help special needs animals, but doesn't have experience and worries they might not be able to do 'everything right'. He doesn't need a special ramp to the house, he doesn't need to have bandages changed or a special orthopedic shoe or a cart, doesn't need his bladder expressed - he just needs someone to sit on the couch with, accept sloppy doggie kisses and watch TV. Yes, he has a bit of a limp and may not be able to run and jump as high as a regular dog, but run he does and jump he does. He probably isn't going to want to walk a marathon, but a stroll around the block in the cool of evening would be great for both Ranger and his parent.

Ranger has been a lot luckier than many shelter dogs on death row. He captured the heart of someone (Jean) and thru her emails and phone calls to the shelter and postings to PT and HPBB Ranger he has gotten a lot of shelter attention by one special volunteer in particular. She's seeing the responses on HPBB and the attention Ranger is getting and realizes that even special needs dogs can enjoy life. She too is looking desperately for a home for him, but the shelter is located in a small rural community and there just aren't that many homes locally.

Ranger's gotten a chance to be out in the lobby where he has gotten 'people and kid and CAT' exposure. He is relating well with everyone - he loves to greet people when they come to the shelter, he loves the kids. Even the office cat and Ranger have struck up a friendship. Yes, he's had a moment or too where he got a little over excited, but he's been in a shelter environment for several weeks now and it is to be expected that he is getting a little frustrated and hopeless. He is trying so hard to make a good showing, to let some special person see how while he's dressed in 'every day dog garb', underneath beats the heart of a champion.

Someone must want to walk down the street beside a champion. Ranger wants to be that dog. /mari
