Oh, Fister, I just love your brilliant thick, fluffy orange coat! You look so comfortable in that windowsill with the sun warming your back! You deserve to feel good--you sure did have a rough beginning, Sweetie!! I know you did not mean to scratch those humans for spite, for that was your survival instinct for many years! We're glad you learned to take care of yourself so that you're still here today to warm your humans' hearts! I really laughed at the cute story of how you have your own water glass by the bedside now! You have wonderful loving parents, and you sound like you can be a real snuggly one yourself! I recognized Fister at first sight too!!! Because he is such a unique combination of green eyes and orange fur and a handsome face to boot!!! As the mom of another orange tabby i have an inclination for orange boys. (By the way did you know that a high percentage of all orange cats are males?)

I locked into your photo before seeing your name and thought - "my, what a stunning orange cat - so self-assured and proud to be a cat" - then I saw it was Fister!!

Now, that's what I call a cat! Big red toms are the kings of the outdoors, I could go on for volumes about my parents' Tybalt, who my mother spent about three years enticing into being house cat....but once he settled in, what a hunk of purry snuggle love he become overnight! All 17 pounds of him! And not an ounce of than was fat, truly! Before Tybbie "retired" Colorado's Grand Valley around Palisade was swarming with red kittens.

What a surprise, Fister - Cat of the day today! :D I'm sure he knew about it before us, as in the middle of the night, he wandered around the flat chatting away to us (quite unusual), and that was the time that we unknowingly received Karen's mail! I wonder?

Unfortunately, we can't give him any of his favourite treats, as he's only allowed diet food for the time being, but we can give him lots of cuddles - and we do!! ;)

He's been sitting in his windowsill most of the day looking very proud, watching the world outside. And he's been sitting in the kitchen window having a little chat with his next neighbor girlfriend. :p

There I had always imagined orange Fister to be the most gentle kind of cat and had reckoned that in his famous picture he was most likely licking milk off his nose. Now, I have come to understand that he is a minature tiger, a true wild cat, and that as likely as not he is licking the blood of some unsuspecting, poor soul who tired to corner him and who is even now on his way to the hospital.

That is one of the things I like best about cats. Unlike the thoroughly domesticated dog, the heart of a wild creature beats inside every cat, yet the cat and the human can reach across the wild barrier and become the fastest of friends but never master and slave. Knowing a good many people who would have long ago just brought out the .22 or the .410 and put an end to the lineage that spawned Fister, I commend Brandi and her man for their patience and love, even at the cost of their own blood spilled.

And Fister has my greatest admiration for ultimately being able to recognize his human friends even while keeping his wild spirit unbent - notwithstanding his sipping of an occassional cup of tea.

I love that picture of Fister with his tongue out. :) I also loved the one of him sitting in his window. He really is a beautiful cat. :)

Last night when I got home I had to have Terry check out just who made COTD. First of all Peanut jumped up on my lap and looked at the screen (she normally just buries her head in my arm when I'm on the computer), then Tubby walked over and meowed. Then we had to run off to get my car from the shop and left without closing the window with Fister on it. I swear Fister was the last thing I saw as I glanced back at the computer before walking out the door. Funny thing was, when we got home Fister was not up there anymore. The only ones home during that time were Tubby and Peanut, so I wonder just what kind of messages were going back and forth that we'll never know about. ;) :D Further evidence that there is a little sub-culture of kitties and doggies here on Pet Talk that us humans aren't supposed to know about. ;) :D
