A friend of mine just IM'd me and told me about a neighbor of hers that is moving and isn't taking her cats with her (of course). She's on disability, claims she's poor, but drinks and smokes and all that other good stuff... of course she can afford that, but not the cats. This makes me sick. She's keeping 2 of the younger cats, her mom is keeping one, but the older cats, she's not keeping. She told my friend that she'll take them to the SPCA, which means they'll be PTS. :( :( Of course, notice that half of them don't have vaccinations, aren't spayed/neutered, and my friend said a few of them look sickly. Lovely, just lovely.

Here's her post on Craigslist:
I'm moving in a month or two and I need to give up for adoption five kitties. They're beautiful kind kitties who need a loving, good home only. I live in Clearfield, PA and have very little income, so it would be up to you to foot the expense of kitty carriers, travel expenses, and if you want the kitties to go to a vet. I'm sorry, but I'm very poor and on disability. Here's the kitties descriptions. If you're interested, please contact me by email. [email protected] Only serious adopters please.

Sasha (named for a childhood doll of mine plus the Olympic Skater, Sasha Cohen). short orange and black calico, yellowish/orange eyes, 2 years old going to be three this November. She came to me as a stray and never has been to the vets. She needs spayed. Indoor only.

Loki or otherwise known as Loo. Long black hair, yellowish/greenish eyes, 11 years old on March 17, neutered, declawed front paws only, indoor only.

Fabian or otherwise known as Faby baby. Long black hair, yellowish eyes, 11 years old in November, neutered, indoor/outdoor.

Stardust (named after Neil Gaiman's book, Stardust) Short gray and orange calico, green eyes, 7 years old in July, spayed, indoor only.

Stardust's blood brother, Dexter, short gray and white, green eyes, 7 years old in July, neutered, indoor only.

My friend, Brandy, just sent me pics from the girl's myspace where she has them listed as well. UGH!!!!

I have no idea who is who, or anything like that, but gosh, they look like sweeties.

Jenn,

I'm about 2 hours away from Clearfield but I don't have the space for 5 cats.

If someone is willing to take them maybe I could keep them for a few days but I'd have to keep them in the bathroom which I think is pretty unfair for 5 cats.

Plus with vet expenses...I'm already going in the hole by taking my FeFe in to the vets today....

....i'm not sure what I can do.....

Thats A Damn Shame That She Has These Cats, And Just Decides She No Longer Wants Them.
Scratchier Was Left Behind By The Deadbeats Who Moved Out Next Door Woing Money, And Scrappitos A Stray From Somewhere As Well. Hopefully Aunt Janice Can Find A Place, I Will Give Scrappito A Chance As Hes Not Nearly As Feral As Scratchier.
What A Crime It Is That We Cat Lovers Have To Be Responsible For These Poor Creatures Of God.
We Are Praying For A Miracle For Those 5 Poor Cats.

Can she post this on Petfinder also?

I don't think she should keep any cats...but I haven't walked in her shoes...

I'm so upset....I don't know what I can do.....I just feel so bad for these 11 yr old cats....I'd say if she lived in Centre County she could try to contact Paws. But they have to be from the Centre County area and I think Clearfield is too far.

I could post for her but that's about all I can do.

I just hate it when people do this to poor cats. I agree with Cathy she shouldn't be able to take any animals with her. That's my thought though.

This lady listed her phone number and her e-mail address on the craigslist so I decided to send her an e-mail. If she has a computer she can afford to hopefully call these places. I just feel bad because if the cats are sick and they are the 11 year old cats they will most likely be PTS. Well anyway here is the e-mail I sent to the women with the cats.

Please check out this website. They have some great ideas on how to help you find homes for your cats so they don't end up in shelters. The best thing to do is to go around to local stores and hang up signs about your cats that you need to find homes for.

Has anyone contacted you about adopting these cats? I would also put up an ad on statecollege.com, petfinder.com under the classified section, and also, I'd list more ads around the area of PA on Craigslist.

Also, may I ask why you can't take them with you? Are you going to request that the olders ones be put to sleep??

She's removed them from PetFinder?

I talked to the rescue in Easton, and they are full, but they are going to contact some other places to see if they can help.

Catty, I know what you mean by you haven't walked in her shoes, it's just I've been hearing about this chick for over a year, and she disgusts me. She sucks off her parents, she doesn't work, she has enough money to buy cartons of cigarettes, booze and get all her piercings and be all goth, but not enough money for the care of the cats. She's 35, on disability, but goes and parties and does all kinds of crap. I wish they'd just turn her in for being a fraud and taking tax payer money.

I, personally, don't WANT to walk in her shoes.

Jenn,

I don't think she removed them. Those were what I found on petfinder

I e-mailed her this morning and I haven't heard anything back from her yet

JennLibrarian,

I'm with you. If she can afford to spend all that money on HERSELF, she can damn well afford to care for her cats. She's looking for an out, for someone else to take over HER responsibility for HER cats. She disgusts me!!!

I'm on disability and my cats come first. There have been times when I had money but had to decide whether to buy food for myself or feed my cats. My cats come first. PERIOD. Wherever I go, they go.

I'm with both of you on this one.

I just feel really bad for those older cats.

Well...how much more information do you need to report her as a welfare fraud?

I just got this e-mail this morning from Karen the lady with the cats:

Thank you for the links, but I've already used petfinder.com and I have had enough people ask for adoption.

Karen Elizabeth

So I e-mailed her back this and we'll see what she has to say:

Karen,

So you found homes for all the cats then?

Thank you,
Melissa

That's just it, we know what we'd do... the cats would come first, no matter what. I'm working intermittently because of my issues, and my paychecks may be next to nothing at this point, but the cats come before me, no matter what.
