Dear Best Friends Members,

The Cherokee County Council will hold a emergency meeting this Thursday, April 24th regarding the recent allegations that the shelter utilizes intracardial injection, also known as "heartstick" as the shelters main form of euthanasia.

This cruel practice has been outlawed in South Carolina and most other states through the U.S. and is not considered an acceptable form of euthanasia except in very limited circumstances, and only if animals are sedated first.

Here's the information about the emergency county council meeting:

When: Thursday, April 24, 2008 at 3:00 pm
Where: Cherokee County Administration Building located at 210 N. Limestone Street, Gaffney, SC

For more information about the allegations made at the last county council meeting, see: http://www.wspa.com/midatlantic/spa/news.apx.-content-articles-SPA-2008-04-21-0034.html.

Additional information is available here: http://www.goupstate.com/article/20080423/news/804230343&tc=yahoo

Please inform your friends, neighbors and others who might want to attend, too. For those of you that cannot attend today's meeting, stay tuned for an update!

Thanks for caring about the animals in your community!

Sincerely,

Need I tell you how some new moms and their several-days-old babies were killed in some of the WW II concentration camps? :(

I hope this is eradicated everywhere!

I've been sick ever since I heard about heart stick. I never knew until recently! I thought all animals were "put to sleep" with anesthesia but to the degree that they died; I never imagined any places did anything that could be painful. How could animal organizations that operate under the pretenses that they care about animals do such a thing; who could actually be the one to perform the procedure? I pray it is eradicated everywhere!!
