Gus is my friends little black toy poodle. He's only about a year old.
this is an email she sent to me.
Gus has been sick. He started vomiting last Tuesday. I thought it was just something he got into. But then Wednesday he vomiting blood, so I took him into the vet. They drew blood, etc. Told me he had an infection and to watch him close, also started him on an ATB and and anti-inflammatory.
He seemed a bit better Friday, but then Saturday and Sunday mornings he acted weird, hadn't had a BM since Wed! So I called the oncall guy on Sunday and he told me to give him mineral oil. By the time I got home from work he had had a BM so I gave him ½ the mineral oil.
Monday morning he had the shakes really bad. And he was walking funny, like he was in pain. So we took him in for another examination and they wanted to do a Barium study. They did that all day today, and they think there's a FB in his stomach. Only half the barium when thru his whole system.
So GusGus is going to surgery in the morning. They're going to open him up and check out his stomach. It's all swollen and weird looking in the x-rays, and they think whatever's in there may be fabric or something that would soak up the barium?
All I know is I'm going NUTS. He had to stay at the vet's tonite. They're going to call me tomorrow when he starts waking up.
he could use some PT prayers!
Thanks
eta:
I got a txt message from my friend this morning and she said Gus didn't make it thru the night. That's all I know. I'm not sure I'll know anymore before Monday b/c she and about a dozen girlfriends left for a trip to NYC last night to celebrate their 30th birthdays. actually she missed her flight and is waiting on standby for one today - I know she is a wreck. It had been in the plans for 5 years and she had spent over a thousand dollars on it - so I would have done the same thing. He was in God's hands regardless if she was going to be home or not. no negative comments please.

I love how PT prayers work!
This is the email I got today. :)
I told her I started a prayer thread for him....
thank you so much
I just got a call from the vet. He's out of surgery and doing fine. Still pretty groggy, I can't pick him up until 4:00.
That little $hi+! I've been so upset, you know what they found? You name it! Fabric, candy wrappers, plastic . . . ugh!
So now I'm gonna be watching him like a HAWK!!!
thanks for your support, i knew you'd understand my heartache,

Oh my - I am glad the little guy is ok!
But why is he a little ****? :D
His job is not to keep the place clean and puppy-edibles off the floor - that is for the hoomins, in the house and in the yard!
I hope he is bouncing around in no time! :)

:)
sometimes puppies as with kids - its a never ending job and just when you think its safe something happens - Keegan ate my grandma's nylon socks. Thank GOD they went thru with no issue.
My friends dogs loves to dig thru the trash and find used condoms.
My cousin when he was a baby stuck his fingers into a light socket and burned a hole all around the side of his mouth - that was before they made the plugs that go in the electric sockets.

Oh no. I am so sorry. Maybe the trip will distract her a bit for now. But I'm sure once she gets home it will hit her hard again. :( He must have been needed at the bridge for something very important to be taken at such a young age.

Dear Gus ~
Safe Trip up to the Bridge, Lil Guy!
We hardly knew you, but sure are gonna *miss* ya! As will your Mom ...
Please keep your *eye* on Mom and her Buddies on their Big Trip -
maybe visit her in NYC for a moment to let her know you're OK at the Bridge.
Look up Bowser - you'll like him! He's the Fluffie One, with the *waving* Tail.
Take care, Gus.
BIG {{{Hugs}}} for Adeline.

:( I am so sorry. I never expected to log on and see this. I thought for sure the little guy was doing great. Please tell your friend that many of us here share in her sadness. I hope she can have some fun this weekend. Coming home to a dogless house will be very hard. I will be thinking of her. :(
RIP GusGus.

Heartbreaking, after hearing that good report from the vet. RIP dear Gus, you were a special one, gone much too soon.
What an emotional roller coaster for your friend; Gus's passing and the big celebration! Oh dear, those are enough to drive you crazy as well! Such sad timing. Yes, I think she was right to go (no, you didn't ask). It is the emotional journey which will make the trip so different than she had planned on for that time. Prayers and hugs.
thanks for finding and posting photos, he was a sweetie.

Oh how sad. :( I'm so sorry for your friend. Play hard at the Rainbow Bridge Gus. :(
I remember Gus. Please tell your friend that she has my deepest sympathy. I just cannot imagine losing such a young baby as Gus. :( She had so little time with him. Gus, if you see four poodles named Peaches, Pumpkin, Ashley and Whitney they will surely show you around. While they are doing that, will you please tell them that I love them and still miss them all.

Prayers for GusGus & his family. Please let his family know we really understand their pain.
Poor guy, but it sounds like they did everything they could. I guess God needed one more curly little angel at the RB. Play happily, GusGus, and check in with your family, they need to know you are still near. ;)

Oh, Staci, I really wasn't expecting this news. I am so sorry that your friend lost Gus. He certainly looked like he was a happy lively little guy. I hope she is able to have a good time on her trip. Nothing like bad timing. It is hard to keep the puppies out of things. Tucker is always chewing on something he shouldn't. With the kids here there is a lot to get into but he also like to get into our bathroom wastebasket. Rip, Gus, I'm sure Snoopy will love playing with you and running with you. You look like his type of friend.
