I had to take Eve to the Cat Hospital early this morning. She was very agitated and straining in her litterbox - completely abnormal for her as she is usually regular as clockwork. Instead of her normal pee pucks :) she could only manage little dribbles :( I was up all night soothing her and trying to keep her calm.

After physical examination and urine testing and abdominal xrays this morning, Dr. Sandy confirms there is no blockage or obstuction however, the xray evidenced the presence of stone(s) in her bladder - poor little girl. Blood results will be back early tomorrow am and Dr. Sandy will make a more informed decision about what and how her condition will be treated. He has kept her overnight and given her medication for the discomfort. He is extremely thorough and won't assume anything until he has reviewed all her test results. He is worried there may be some kidney related issues as there was blood in her urine :( .

Needless to say we miss our baby and home isn't right without her. Please send some positive thoughts her way - I know she'll feel your vibes :)

I hope that Eve will get treatment and be on the mend as soon as possible so she can be back home with you in a day or two.

Poor Eve! I hope the blood was caused by the stones and nothing else. I am glad she is in such good hands, and is being kept comfy.

I hope the stones can be dissolved with ultrasound or something so she doesn't need surgery! Girl kitties have larger urethras, so hopefully that will make treatment and recovery better and quicker!

HUGS to you and your baby girl.

Thank you so much. I know every positive thought will help our girl get thru this - she's a trooper and has stepped up to every challenge in her life.

Thank you Catty for reminding me that today's technology is amazing - I'll be sure to check every option available with Dr. Sandy :)

Poor Tigris has been pacing up and down the room all night as he was so worried about Eve.
He has never had crystals but he had a so-called idiopathic UTD some years ago which came back after some months- so he knows the pain.

He tells Eve that she should trust Dr Sandy- allthough he knows it will be difficult for her. He tells her she shouldn't eat her diet afterwards but maybe you do not have to tell her that.
And he sends sweet purrings and headbumpies.

Oh poor Eve. :( I hope the vet will be able to treat this fast and Eve will be back to normal soon. So glad to hear the vet is thorough and keeping her pain free while waiting for the results.

Fister and I send lots of healing thoughts and kisses.

Get better soon, Eve!

The girls have all their paws crossed for their lovely friend Eve. Poor little girl. I hope she has had a comfortable night, and I will be on the lookout for updates on her condition.

Good News:
- Eve's blood panel and kidney enzyme tests are 100% normal :D
- She does not have a fever, is well hydrated and is eating :D
- The stones in her bladder do not appear to be significant enough to be causing the problem; therefore no surgery (at least not at this time)

Pending:
- Eve is still straining and in pain; symptoms of Cystitis (bladder infection) - anyone who has had one knows how that feels :(
- She still needs pain medication and today has been put on antibiotics to help fight the infection
- She is still in the hospital and we miss her terribly (Daddy almost went over and kitty-napped her today ;) )
- The question of blood in the urine and low urine concentration count in her kidneys is now being re-tested via a Urine culture which takes about 3 days for results :( ; the Urine culture will also identify the type of bacteria causing the bladder infection and make sure the antibiotic medication is correct for her

So .... our paws and claws are still crossed: 1) hoping the medication will show a positive result in the next couple of days and 2) the Urine culture brings a better urine concentration in her kidneys.

Thank you everyone for thinking about our baby and keeping her in your prayers. I know your healing powers are working :D

Barbara,

Please give Tigris a huge hug and tell him his concern is very special to us all. Evie is taking his good advice and being a very good girl :)

All those sweet purrs and headbumpies are just the best medicine she could get :D

After Tigris heard the good news he could catch up on a little sleep - *phew*
But I could see his paws were still crossed.

I think that sounds all fairly reasonable. The urine culture will tell them what antibiotics to use and to be more specific with them.

All our best thoughts for your little girl. I know how you feel when they are away. When Filou had his sleepover with Doc Trude two weeks ago I felt like calling evry hour to hear how he is.

I'm just seeing this so I'm a little late. I hope that Eve feels better real soon. My Puddy just went through one of several bladder infections, blood in the urine, the whole bit, and as soon as she went on Clindamycin, she was fine. So, hopefully, your vet will figure out which antibiotic will be right for her condition and get this cleared up pronto.

Medusa,

Thank you! You have no idea how encouraging your post has been for me. Although things with Eve seem to be progressing in a positive direction, I can't help but worry and worry some more :(

The vets at The Cat Hospital are just amazing and very thorough so I'm sure they will get this situation resolved. I just need to be a more patient meowmie :)

Tigris, you are the best. I just know all your care and concern is helping Eve get better. She'll be sending you lots of hugs and kisses soon dear boy :D

Barbara, I definitely know how you felt when Filou was away. I drive by the hospital on my way to work and back. It takes all my strength not to go in there to see my baby  Dr. Sandy said it I could however, it would probably upset Eve because she would think she's going home :) and then mommy would leave without her ... again :( Being a responsible parent really sucks sometimes

I hope Eve feels better! My cat pack and I send you healing thoughts. I know how hard it is when your cat is staying at the vet. =( I hope she gets well soon and gets to go home soon as well. =)

Tigris has been checking flights to Vancouver. He would like to be there when his darling Eve comes back. With tulips and roses.

I told him that she may prefer to stay with her family first and enjoy all the love and goodies. It might be too stressful for her to have him there right away.

Tigris you are such a dear boy :D Eve will be home tomorrow :D :D and although she may not be up to her usual antics ;) I'm sure seeing you would make her forget the last few days completely :D Not too mention that her mommy would love to snuggle you to bits :)

Looking forward to seeing you sweetheart and have a safe flight ;)

Eve is on the mend and will be home tommorrow morning :D She is being treated with antibiotics and anti-inflammatories.

The greatest news is that a second urine analysis yesterday no longer found blood in her urine and the kidney counts were normal :D I am one happy meowmie and can't wait to spoil my little princess :D

She has been such a good girl despite the pain and discomfort. The vet techs all love her and take turns cuddling her and playing with her :D What a little trooper - I love my baby girl :D

YAAY!

Is there anything that can be added to her food that might gradually dissolve the bladder stones while they are fairly small?

I hope everyone in your household is planning their day around spoiling Eve! :D

You have completely read my mind :) I will meet with Dr. Sandy bright and earlier in the morning to discuss Eve's medication needs for the next few days as well as any dietary adjustments that could help her.

Tommorrow is officially "Eve's Day" :p Her Daddy and I are at her paw's beck and call ;) whatever Eve wants, Eve gets! We just can't wait to hug and cuddle her and spoil her rotten :D of course!

Work .... can wait :p

YES ! Eve is home and feeling much better, She still needs to take her meds and rest - this is a challenge  since she must inspect everything in sight, get lots of hugs and snuggles and talk (a lot) :p Daddy was so happy to see his girl and they had lots of snuggles to catch up on :D

Tigris, Eve has asked me to tell you she is sorry for worrying you and keeping you awake at night and she send you lots and lots of love and purr kisses :D

Dr. Sandy is pleased with Eve's progress - she is a very healthy girl. He just wants to keep an eye on the tiny stones in her bladder to be sure they don't cause her any distress. The vet techs all gave her hugs and kisses and told her they would miss her so much :D

I am so happy to have baby home and have been playing and cuddling with her all morning. I think I should go run some errands so that she can have a quiet nap without Mommy fussing all over her

Thank you for helping my baby get better :)

Well.... Eve goes in tommorrow morning for follow-up urine tests. All my toes and fingers are crossed and crossed again that all is normal.

She has responded well to her medication and has finished her antibiotics. All litterbox deposits are good ;) but I have no way of telling if there's blood in her urine (my biggest worry). She's eating well and playing exuberantly :); getting into mischief :p and being a very cuddly baby - these are all good things. Wish she could tell me how she feels  Cats are such masters at hiding things that hurt until they can't :(

Stay tuned

Thank you for thinking about our little girl :)

She went in early this morning and 'held out' as long as she could, but finally caved and gave Dr. Sandy a good urine sample :D The vet techs all welcomed Eve and were cuddling with her even before I was out the door :p (Do you think this is a plot to get Evie time????)

Dr. Sandy called me this afternoon and was very pleased - her test was good :D and he was so happy to see her looking happy and just a little bit naughty :p We have to continue giving her a drop of Metacam for 2 weeks and then in early May he will xray the bladder again to see what is happening (or not, fingers crossed) with the stones in her bladder.

I'll take the good news :D :D
