About 2 months ago my inlaws adopted a puppy from a local kill shelter. He looks just like a Bi-colored GSD, but he's only about 50 pounds. His body is a little on the longer side too.. so I don't know what he could me mixed with or maybe he's just the product of bad breeding.
Anyway...
When they adopted him he was calm, very calm and stayed that way for 2 or 3 days. Then he came out of his shell and is non stop energy. WOW this dog does not stop playing! My in laws called me the other night asking me to find a home for him.
He is about 9 or 10 months old, neutered, updated shots, house broken and crate trained and has VERY high toy drive!!
I think, with proper training that he's make a great flyball or agility dog.
I already have e-mails out to rescues letting them know about him.
He's not in danger of being taken back to the pound.

Just wanted to post about him here.
Here's Sarge in a few rare pictures of him not moving!!

Oh Angie, I'm sorry your in-laws have to give Sarge up. I understand about high energy dogs, Lacey was non-stop, we were lucky to get a couple hours of sleep for months with her, seriously. I have one 'high toy drive' pup here with Layla.
Best of luck finding him a home, he is just gorgeous, wish I could take him, I love Shepherds. ;)

Awww, I wish I could take him. He is so pretty.

I don't know anyone looking for a dog right now. I just wanted to pop in and wish you the best of luck finding him a home.

Aww, this makes me kinda sad. :( No offense to your in-laws but,
almost all GSDs have high prey/toy drive. It's a breed trait. seems like
as soon as the little guy started to loosen up in new surroundings, they
find he's more than they wanted to deal with.

I do hope Sarge finds a younger family that has time to channel his
energy in the right direction. :) Good luck little buddy.

p.s. On petfinder ad he's listed as Large breed GSD. Will he be full sized
or small?

My friend Pat, who lives in Wauseon, OH, said she would post him on the Non Urgent dogs on her GSD site...can you give me any more info on him??

How is he with cats? That might help his chances. I wish I could take him, but we are packed in that apartment. :(

Aw, that's too bad, he is such a handsome little guy. I can sympathize with your in-laws, though - a more than lively dog can be a real strain on older folk. It would be great if he can go to a home with a kid that can match his energy level. Paws crossed Sarge finds his perfect "furever" home soon.

Molly, all the info on Sarge in his petfinder listing is correct, you can give her that. Only one thing to add is that he is okay with dogs. I took Sierra over today and he was perfect! Actually, it's almost like he's never played with another dog, Sierra kept play bowing and chasing him but all he kept doing was running away from her! But he was not aggressive or mean at all!
I don't know how he is with cats, I don't even have a cat I could test him with! :o

Liz, He's about 9 months old and is 50 pounds, so I don't think he's going to get much bigger.

I already got an application for him and I just called them to set up a home inspection for tomorrow and the woman tells me that they're leaving for a ski trip on Tuesday till Sunday. Drat... oh well, if someone else comes along in the mean time then I'm all for it. She sounded nice and the application was good. (crate training till it's not needed anymore, sleep in their bedroom, they recently adopted a 7 month old GSD mix) We shall see....

Thank you all for helping me get the word out.
Sarge is such a good boy, I hate to see him go, but my in laws bit off more then they could chew with his furry ball of energy!

Thanks for asking Liz,
I've gotten 3 applications for Sarge.
1 is a couple that lives about an hour from me, no kids and that adopted a 7 month old GSD 3 weeks ago. Right now they are on a ski trip and are coming home on Sunday, once they're home I'll be doing a home inspection.
I spoke to the woman Sunday night and I feel they would be the best family for him.

Another person interested in him lives in Canada, a single female that has a rott/gsd mix.

The 3rd application I got for him was from a family with 2 adults, 3 kids and cat and a dog. The dog is not fixed and I hve not yet found out why, but they've had 2 GSD's before and have used a professional trainer before.
All three have fenced in yards!

So paws crossed for the first family that applied for him!
I'll be doing the home inspection myself and I have the # to their vet. They lost their GSD back in November to cancer.
I'll keep you posted!

I will be keeping all paws crossed for Sarge. The first couple sounds
pretty good to me too. :) Can't wait for the weekend.

I hope the first one works out! The 3rd one, for me, wouldn't even be considered because their other dog isn't altered...that would be a deal killer for me.

Paws crossed for number 1!

I know that was my first thought as well, but I figured I'd at least ask why.

I adopted a Dobe out a few years back that was not fixed by her previous owner and I was pissed off about it. Lucky for her, I adopted her out to a VERY good owner and they found out that she has von Willebrand's disease and couldn't have the surgery!

YEAH!! I've set up a home inspection for tomorrow (Tuesday) with the #1 prospective family.

Annnnnd just this morning I got another application that could be a great family for him too!

I hope to have him in his new home by the weekend!
PAWS CROSSED!!

Right where he is!!
My in laws are keeping him! :D

They called me last night at about 6:00 to tell me that they want to keep him! They had him in the car with them on their way to their son's baseball game! I told her she's VERY lucky she called when she did because I'd already set up a home inspection for today at 6:30 and was planning on having him in his new home this weekend!!

I am glad to hear that they have decided to keep him. But, in any case, I think Sarge landed himself into a good family. What other "aunt" would go through as much effort as you did to find him a good home. I think he owes "Aunt Angie" some extra slurps the next time he sees you. Which apparently won't be the last time he sees you. :)

That's great news - I hope they realize & appreciate all you did to help them find a good home for Sarge... all worth it in the end, because maybe it got them to look at Sarge with fresh eyes, too, & realized he's a "keeper" ! ;)

I am so happy Sarge won't have to re-adjust again. Great news. :)
He really has such a sweet face, I'm sure he will be a great companion.

Will Sarge get to go to puppy school?

I'm glad to hear Sarge is staying! It may be a lot of extra work on your in-laws part to wear him out, but it will be worth it! :D
