Dumb spay question

I know I should know this. And I most likly do.But with this huge cocktail of meds my doctors and therapists have me on currently I am drawing a huge blank.

Sheena is scheduled to be spayed on the first of April(no jokes please). What is the usual recovry time For a very healthy, very little fat, had one litter, and is 4yrs old and is about 65 pouds dog? I need to know because this was the soonest I could get her in and I have a ton of appointments coming up that if she can be recovered enough for then I would like to bring her for. If not then I plan to spend the next two weeks working Ajax to over time(all the meetings are with mental health people who know about and suport both my efforts with both dogs) to see if I can get him ready enough to go to those appointments while she is still recovering,
So any advice?

My vet says to keep them quiet for a week, but I've never had any luck with that! Tehya was acting like nothing happened a couple hours after her surgery. Pingo was back in harness in a couple weeks. Tehya was spayed as a seven month old. Pingo was 6 years old and had one litter before she got to me.


I think as long as your appointments don't involve anything too physically strenuous, she'll be fine to go with you after a couple days. If you want to enter her in a weight pull, I'd wait a few weeks! ;)

Thanks. My first appointment after her spay is Monday the 7th. My concern is that is too early to expect her to go back to work. It is only for an hour long meeting and most of it she would be laying under my chair. But then the next day there is a 2 hour long meeting. And I am thinking that might be pushing it a bit. DO you think she might be ready for then or do you think I should continue with Ajax and up his training so he can come instead? Both therapists are aware of the situation and are fine with either of them.

I am sure she'll be fine to work for a couple hours by the 7th. It is not like she is pulling sledges or anything, all our dogs seemed back to normal after a day or so, except Freckles (St. Bernard) would show you her tummy for sympathy.

Lacey was about 5 and had had many litters when I adopted her last June and had her spayed. In 2 days she was ready for walks, couldn't stop her! I just walked a bit more slowly.

So I too think Sheena will be fine for both of the meetings you have mentioned.

Have you asked your vet for his/her advice? You know your dog's activity level and obviously the vet would probably overshoot the estimate just to be safe, but it would typically be your best source of advice, in my opinion :)

Both Lacey and Layla were spayed at 6 months and were ready to run the next day. ;) Of course they had to be leashed outside for a while, about 10 days. As far as Sheena I would think what you're planning would be fine. :)
