I like all dogs, its the owners that bug me. Dogs are only as good as you will let them be. I have neighbors that treat their dogs with love and lots of affection and they are wonderful creatures. I also have a neighbor with two rottweilers and some kind of small hairy thing and all three are being taught to be mean. Everytime we walk Ricky down the alley, this guy yells at the dogs to sick 'em. They are getting worse each time we go outside. It really upsets me since one of the Rottweilers was so sweet when he first got her. I can see that she still wants to be sweet but this guy went out and got a very aggressive male and he wants puppies now. He actually gets mad at the female when she doesn't act aggressive and show teeth whenever anyone walks down the alley or the street in front of his house. So I love dogs but some owners are really a pain.

MHMamma, you are so right, I'm afraid to walk my dogs on the street here, we never do, we have a lower yard which is fenced and we take them down there for exercise, but we never leave them alone, one of us is always there to make sure they are o.k. Too many people with loose dogs that don't care what they do. Then every day we throw the ball up on the patio for extra exercise. If people would only take responsibility for their pets, it would be a better world. I'm with you I love all dogs there is no such thing as a bad or mean dog, only people.

I wonder - I would be tempted to try to engage him in converation, ask him why he is training his dogs to be so mean, or as he would probably think - protective - security dogs. What is he afraid of? Not that I'd ask him that directly, but it's gotta be behind this. I'd ask if there's something about the neighborhood that you don't know about that is making him make his dogs mean? And let him know that most people are afraid of Rottweilers anyway, why not just teach them to "alarm bark" a couple times to let him know someone's close, because a couple barks from a big black dog will scare away 99% of people anyway, whether of not the dog is mean!

My husband has tried to talk to this man in english and spanish. He is new to the neighborhood (1 year new) and he is very difficult. His wife is very much the same. I even took them homemade cookies when they first moved in and she just looked at me like I was stupid and took the cookies. No thank you, no nothing and she speaks perfect english. They moved here from New York with their friends that moved next to them and now they want some more friends of theirs to move here and buy my deceased mother in laws house which is next to the rottweiler man's house. I don't think I could handle three couples like that.
When these people moved in there was the most beautiful pecan tree (40 feet tall) in their yard. Right away, he had it cut down. He doesn't like trees either.

That's terrible! The ONLY way people should train dogs to be agressive is if they are Police Dogs. But that's just awful. My dad told me dogs just "know", when to be agressve and/or bite. Dogs should only bite of attack if someone is truly trying to hurt their master, or family, and if someone is trying to rob thier family's house. But, it's normal for a dog to bark or growl when someone is knocking at the door! Sadie only barks when someone is at the door, or when she hears a strange sound. People shouldn't do that.

Things like this make me soo mad. Why further contribute to the already bad enough rap that dogs like sweet Rotties get! Grrrr. There must be something you can do, MHMama... can't you call someone or something? I feel bad for you... If I get this mad just hearing about it, I can only imagine how awful it must be to actually see it going on. Some people just aren't fit to have a dog!

MHMama, I can relate to bad neighbors. The neighbors on one side of us don't like our dogs and have called the police once and Animal Care and Control once on us. Both of them just laughed and said the guy is a crotchedy old man with nothing better to do with his life than to make your life miserable. He expects me to follow the dogs around and pick up after them immediately after they go to the bathroom. ACC just laughed and told me that once a day was plenty with the number of dogs we have and I always do it 2 or 3 times a day!! He also threatened to shoot one of the dogs when he accidently got out and was in the guy's yard. The guy's daughter told him to shut up twice and he just ignored her. So trust me, I understand about crappy neighbors. The neighbor on the other side thinks the dogs are great and watches them for amusement and the people behind us take their grandchilren to the window and away from the TV when we let the dogs out so our dogs are their entertainment! hehehe. I would suggest calling your local Animal Control and reporting what this "gentleman" is doing and perhaps they will come out and talk with him. Good Luck!
