View Full Version : Prayers for Jack and even more Snoopy! Good Update on Snooopy Post #39!!!

Took Jack to the vets today - he has been having some accidents and is losing weight gradually. They did an expensive blood test which I will get the results from tomorrow. He does not have an infection or bladder stones. So he could be just getting senile OR it could be Cushings Disease - the test to find out is expensive (although if we look at Snoopy's recent health tests it is not so bad.) However if it is Cushing it means another expensive drug for the rest of his life. The vet said it may be in the same vicinity of the price of Snoopy's Keppra. OH, how we cannot afford that!
So I am asking for lots of prayers that it is not Cushings but something that can be helped in a much less expensive way. PT prayers work - so please pray hard!
Snoopy just started having seizures - the first time in a long time that he has had two so close together -NOT good news at all. They were aonly about ten minutes apart. I called the vet during the 2nd one and he said to give him 3 more valium (after the 3 I just gave him). I have to call him at ten if he doesn't have another one and we will talk about what to do overnight. If he has another one then I have to take him down to the vet's office so he can get them under control. Then he will be showing me how to give valium rectally so the next time I can give it to him before he comes completely out of it.
Something is not right now. Snoopy should be knocked out by now and he isn't. Pray hard from my boys!!!

Sorry I haven't posted yet today. Good news about Jack. The bloodwork showed no signs that he has Cushings. The bile enzyme was a little elevated so she has put him on an antibiotic. She is also looking into some meds that might help if it continues because it may be the onset of senility.
As for Snoopy, he has had no more seizures but the valium makes him very nervous and spacy - keeps running into things, getting into corners and can't find his way out and whining, whining, whining. I did go down to the vet clinic and get the instruction and stuff needed to give him valium rectally if he has another seizure that goes on too long or if he keeps having them and I can't get the oral ones in him. I am really seeing too much of these people when I don't have to give my name or even why I am there!
Thanks again for all the prayers -- I know the are helping!

I'm so sorry you and your dogs are having to go through this! It's bad enough having one sick one but two would make me crazy with worry. I am glad to hear it's not Cushings for Jack. At least that will help. I hope Snoopy doesn't have any more seizures. Give them both some extra lovin' from me.

How is his vision and hearing? I had a foster cat that was doing that, and it turned out he was blind and deaf (also had a brain tumor :( ). Alex would get stuck in the strangest places, and just wail. It was heartbreaking.
Hope Snoopy will feel better, and that it is just the valium that is affecting him. All it ever did to me was make me sleep! :p

To be honest, I think some drastic has happened since those last seizures. He is agitated all the time, he walks into things, walks into corners and can't figure out how to get out, trips over everything, spilling the water bowls constantly, gets into rooms and can't figure out how to get out and somehow manages to shut the door of that room and whines constantly unless I am right there to be with him. I have spent most of the last two days on the couch trying to keep him calm. If there is not a beginning of a change today, I am afraid I may have to make the decision I don't want to make. But this is no life for him. When he is not sleepnig, he is pacing and whining, lost and confused. The valuim only seems to increase the agitatedness and from talking to the vets there is not much else to do for him.
So pray extra hard today because I am at a point that I know that he cannot go on this way. I love Snoopy so much adn it breaks me heart to think I may have to let him go.

Kimmy, Snoopy is about the same today although without me home he has been sleeping more and not whining as much.
Snoopy got a reprieve tonight. The vet is not ready to give up on him and has come up with another plan to help him rather then say there is nothing else to go and maybe it is time. When I talked to the vet tonight, she had some other thoughts about Snoopy - good news as far as I am concerned. She thinks maybe the seizure has caused some vision problems for Snoopy which is why he is walking into things, tripping over things. And that the whining could be from separation anxiety which I had not even thought of but should have because Snoopy won't even let me out the door now. He fights to get out the door ahead of me and has won a couple of times. He doesn't run away because he can't leave me behind although tonight he ran across the street without looking (you'd think these kids would remember their lessons) And his worst whining fits are when I am not with him. So she is going to do some more research (boy, has Snoopy been keeping her busy on the computer) on separation drugs since we don't want to add to his problems by giving him something else that could cause seizures, hurt his liver, etc. She is also going to look into adding another anti-seizure that is 20% digested through the liver but hopefully will stop some of these more frequent seizures.
Jack seems to be doing better also. Hopefully it is just some kind of infection he has and he will stop having the accidents. I forgot to see if she has come up with a drug for his possible senility. Boy, am I keeping her busy!!!
So keep those prayers coming. They seem to be working!!!!

I am very blessed with the vets I have! Dr. Freeman bought the practice about 2 years ago and he has just been wonderful with Snoopy. Dr. James joined his practice about a year ago and she too is wonderful. Dr. Freeman had been handling Snoopy up until Snoopy had to go to Columbus (he sent us) but he had to go to a conference for a week so Dr. James took over. Now we see whoever is available. They keep each other up to date on what's going on and discuss possible plans. I feel very comfortable with both of them with concerns to Snoopy (and the other dogs) so I can't loose no matter who I end up talking to.
Not to dis the vet whom Dr. Freeman bought the practice from but I don't think she would have been as open to trying other things and Snoopy probably wouldn't be alive now. I could be totally wrong about her but just watching the difference in how new vets handle the routine appointments to the way she did that is what I think.
