View Full Version : do your cats ever get to you?

for those of you that have 3 or more cats, does it ever seems like they are just too much? does it ever seem like it is always something with one or more of them?

of course as I'm typing this, Charlie is being goofy, so I have to laugh at him and Patches playing, but earlier tonight, I heard a loud screech, knew it must be Muffin after one of the kittens, look thru the house real fast, trying to find them, can't find them, then I realize they are in the bathroom, the door was not closed tight, I guess it got pushed closed by them. I went in there and Muffin was on the counter, and Patches on the floor. I got mad at her, then felt bad because she wasn't actually touching him, so I don't know what went on or what caused the screech.

sometimes when I hear running I don't know if it is her after one of them or them playing!

and Louise is always meowing for food, even though I leave dry food out all the time, she likes canned, but I can't feed it to her all the time. Patches has a tummy ache from his medicine, and Louise seems to want to play when the others are sleeping, she has alot of energy or gets bored I guess.

so I was just wondering if anyone else had problems with their cats? I couldn't get rid of them for anything, but sometimes they are a handful:eek:

Oh my goodness you are most definitely not alone. We currently have 3 fuzzballs but at one point we had 5. And there are most definitely times when you want to just lock them in the basement for a few hours. Then they look at you with those trusting eyes and the feeling goes away...most of the time, anyway.

Yes... 3 kittens can be a handful sometimes. Like last night, I put Gigi on the bed with me because she was trying to jump up...well for some reason she peed all over the bed. I have no idea why. Well all three have to be all over me and the comforter while I was trying to clean it...so curious, but such a pain to clean with 3 kittens and it was 1:30am I had to be up at 6:30am and when I picked up Gigi, I noticed she was all wet from her accident so she needed a bath. Finally at 2am all kitties got put to sleep in the living room and I closed my door to sleep. I think I'm going to invest in a plexi glass gate like I did for the ferret room...that way I can keep my bedroom door open and the kitties out at night....but then of course you feel so guilty when you look at that cute little face and know they didn't mean to mess. *sigh*

Not so much Noah and Noel...the only time I get annoyed with them is when I'm cooking and they HAVE to be underfoot crying for food...it gets a little annoying. Basil on the other hand cries for everything under the sun...and he expects me to know what he wants. That's the hard part.

They are so worth it though. :)

You are definitely NOT alone! I have 6 cats and they all get under foot alot, especially during feeding time. The only time they ever get to me is usually early in the morning when they do their "food dance" on my bed, which is a sign they're hungry (at 5 a.m.!) And sometimes they are really annoying when they decide to play "tag you're it" when I'm trying to fall asleep. Other than that, ya gotta love 'em!!

well I sure feel better now, I guess it comes with having cats:rolleyes:
it's true about their little innocent eyes, when they look up at me, there is nothing I wouldn't do for them!

Chinadoll,
I know the feeling of wanting to close them out of the room, and it sounds like you had an awful time with your kitties! that would be bad enough to have that happen, but at that hour makes it worse!

it seems like at times like those, I'm ready to bring the whole bunch of them back to the shelter and say "HERE!" but, of course I could NEVER actually do that, and the next day it is mostly forgotten.
a few minutes ago I watched Patches sleep, he was hugging the scratch post like a teddy bear! I would have taken a pic, but to go get the camera would have awakened him... and Charlie is meowing for attention, so I put him on my lap. cute little boy:)

thanks everyone, I feel better knowing it isn't just me, and Muffin has forgiven me! when I got mad at her, she wouldn't have anything to do with me the rest of the night! she's very sensitive, I guess I hurt her feelings! I guess I just lost it, seeing her scaring Patches again. I have to know where they are at all times, or close her up in a room alone, I hate to do that.

We were all better this morning. I was just so tired last night that I tucked them all in with blankets on the sofa and told them Mom needs sleep and shut my door. This morning everyone was fine. Gigi was playing up a storm which greatly releived me...I was worry that her accident was a symptom of illnes because out of the 3 she is the best with the box.

that is strange that she did that, I wonder why? myabe you should call your vet and tell them about it?

Gigi has a vet appt. scheduled for tomorrow evening for checkup and shots so I'll ask the vet then.Poor little princess. She was not happy with that bath last night, but neither was I. So much for being Joey's(BF) kitty. He got so insulted the other night. He was sitting at one end of the sofa and I was laying down at the other end. Gigi was sleepy and he settled her on his chest for a nap. She was having none of that. She got up and resettled herself on my lap. So he picks her up and tries again. Gigi again walks over to my lap and curls up to go to sleep. I start laughing and he glares at me. Men..geez...I told him what do you expect...to her you're just a nice person who visits everyday. I feed her, groom her, and play with her. Who could blame her for settling down in her evening spot on my lap for a nap?!

I only have 3 cats and sometimes I think I have too many. It always seems that when two of them are being good or sleeping that the third cat will be whining at me for attention or out of boredom. This is usually Sunny. He has a lot of energy and just wants to play all day long. Storm will also get in one of his needy moods and he won't let me out of his sight. He'll also start meowing at me and I never know what he wants. He doesn't really like to be held and he's not a lap cat. Pepper has also been acting a little more demanding lately. He'll cry until I give him some loving. I could never part with any of them though. I love all three of them very much. http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/catlove.gif

I know that feeling, the more cats there are around, the more likely that at least one will be wanting something, or I just get one taken care of and another starts!

well they have alot of good points too, and I am lucky to have them, they really are mostly very good cats, becasue aside from the meowing thing, they do not cause any mess or problem, other than the problem with Muffin and the kittens. they're good cats:)

OMG, what am I getting into!! Only two and a half weeks before we move into the new appartment and I will be mom to three kitties instead of one. Reading all your stories has made me a bit anxious and I wonder if having a three-cat household is really such a good idea after all.
Piglet has always been an only cat, she sleeps most of the time and is less and less active and getting overweight. I suppose it will be really good for her to have some new friends to play with.
:)
Do you guys find that cats are a lot more active when there's two or three instead of one?

Chinadoll, I hope GiGi is allright when she goes to the vet. I wouldn't worry too much about the peeing incident because she is only a small kitten and they can have accidents just like little kids do, it doesn't always mean there's something wrong.

Piglet, don't get scared, it will be just fine to have 3 cats! Yeah, there are good days and bad days, but take my word, you will have so much funhaving 3 cats, that the bad days will soon be a memory and you'll enjoy your cats a lot!

I have "only" 2 cats, but will add my lines here too. Yes, they get to me. There are days when they don't cause any problems, but then there are days when they just live to annoy me. I don't know why they do it, maybe they just have bad days, like everyone does. Never in the million years I would give them up though, NO WAY! We love them way too much and they are our precious 'babies'.:)

dear Piglet , how great , having three kittens !!!! Like Niina said , do not get scared !!! This little rascals can get quite naughty sometimes , but they will also give you so much love , fun , excitement !!! And I think little Piglet's weight-problem will disappear !! She will be playing much more ; so in this way she will be more active , and .......... loose weight !!!
Success !!!:D :D :D

Piglet

don't be scared by any stories on here, instead, read all the good things that are said on here, and all the cute pics! kittens are ALOT of fun! work too, but it is worth it! the only problem that you might have is if your resident cat will accept them, and 2 might be kind of a shock to an only cat. ask your vet, there are good ways to slowly introduce them, and be sure to give the resident cat LOTS of attention after you bring in the new ones. if her/his routine is not changed drastically, he or she should be ok.
I just found that with 3 cats, sometimes one is left out. how old is the kitty you have now? will you be getting both new ones at the same time?
I really don't mean to scare you, but I've learned that just getting cats and putting them together can take adjustment.

*only* 2 cats can also be a problem at times, yes, but I have had 2 cats, and then had 3 cats, and now I have 5, and 2 is different than 5. when there is 2 they usually play together and are not a problem, but like I said in my first post, the more there are, the more chance of one or another wanting something!

Our 5 cats aren't really that bad because 3 (Buddy, Hoss, Tundra) of them go outside during the day cause they LOVE ti out there and if you don't let them out they whine atthe door and you feel so awfull! Smokey and Misty stay inside all the time. Misty lives in my room cause she doens't like other cats and Smokey is never a bother cause she is so shy. At night when the 5 of them are in they just sleep. Or when all 5 of them are in during the day cause of a storm or somethign they just play around with each other or sleep.

Thanks for reassuring me! :)

Toughcookie, all three cats are going to move to the new appartment around the same time, so there is no resident cat. They are 7 (boyfriend's cat Wissel) and 4 (my cat Piglet) years old and the kitten (Teddy) is about 10 weeks. I think the two older girls will be the biggest problem, fortunately there are enough rooms to keep them seperate if necessary.
Of course I did think this through before I decided that I wanted another kitten when we move, but there seems to be so much that can go wrong! I just hope that they will come to love eachother as much as I love them. ;)

well there can be problms but there are so many good times with cats too. oh I understand now, your cat and his cat. maybe you should give them some time to adjust to each other and a new house before bringing in a new kitty? can the kitties meet a time or two before moving in to the same house? your cat and his cat might both feel misplaced at first, since they are not in the same house anymore, I mean, it's not like a cat adjusting to a new cat in his same home. maybe it will work out better that way...
well good luck, keep us updated on what happens:)
