Found what could be best described as bloody phlegm in Kia's crate. She won't touch food or treats and is pretty mopey. :(
She's in to see the vet later today. Hoping it's just a scratched throat or upset tummy. Fingers crossed that it's NOT her lungs.

Well, I wish I had better news.
Dr. Kuschel looked at the sample I brought under the microscope and discerned that the mucus came from her nose.
She took a look at Kia's nose (something Kia did not like :o ) and confirmed that the left nasal passage is irritated.
She's real concerned with the amount of blood Kia sneezed out.
Dr. Kuschel mentioned the possibility of cancer. She did not want to take this lightly and recommended I have the sample sent to MSU for a cytology report. They will be able to tell if there is bacteria, or infection, or abnormal cells.
They also drew blood for a full panel to check Kia's kidneys and other organs.
Her appetite has not been great this winter and she's been sneezing quite a bit.
The blood test results will be ready tomorrow morning. The cytology report will be back in 7-10 days.
Just a waiting game at this point. Dr. Kuschel said to keep my chin up and try not to worry. Easier said than done. ;)

Does the Dr say it's an infection? Could it be just a broken bloodvessel?
We 'll pray for a good test outcome for Kia. I'm sorry she's feeling punky. :(

They don't have the resources to check for an infection there at the office, which is why they sent the sample to MSU.
She looked up her nose and didn't mention a broken bloodvessel. I think she would if she saw something to that effect.

We'll keep the Prayers flowing upward; You try to follow Doc's orders and keep
your spirits up - that will help Kia to feel better, too.
I'll have the Prayer Pups add Kia to the Prayer Card under the candles.

Thanks guys. Came home from work to find more bloody snot in the crate and on Kia. :( Poor girl.
She didn't really want to eat. I coaxed her and then she slowly picked at with Chipper hovering over her. He finished it off.

I have never heard of anything like this, I sure hope its nothing serious. How old is Kia? I wonder if it could be some type of kennel cough? Has she coughed at all?

I think this is what my vet is thinking of:
http://www.vin.com/VINDBPub/SearchPB/Proceedings/PR05000/PR00392.htm
http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/clientED/nasal.aspx
If the discharge contains blood, then fungal infection or cancer are most likely to be present. An exception to this rule is that violent sneezing from any cause can cause temporary bleeding from the nose. But if bleeding is NOT caused by sneezing, then fungal infection or cancer are the most likely causes. Nasal bleeding can be part of a body-wide bleeding problem in which case bleeding or bruising are seen in locations in addition to the nose.

Thank you for that I really have never heard of anything like this. Sending good vibes to Kia.
Kia does have a habit of smashing her snout against the ground when she sneezes. (which is multiple smashes with each sneezing fit --- usually brought on in the middle of wrestling with Chipper) Maybe she just broke something open in there?
I hope she gets better and can't wait to see her tomorrow. :D

Thanks everyone. Vet hasn't called yet. Just waiting paitently. ;)
What did the vet say when you told them about her smashing her nose into the floor when she sneezes? (what Andy posted about)
Ironically, Kia had one of those sneezing fits (complete with bumping her nose against the floor) right in front of the vet. She said it's one of those cases where it looks worse than it is. If she was really smashing it hard, we'd see blood nearly everytime right away, but that isn't the case.
The blood I'm finding in her snot is coming from way back in her nasal cavity.
I sure hope it turns out to be nothing serious! Lots of hugs and prayers for you all. Kia you don't get to have anything bad!!!

I noticed a lump on Kia's leg last night. I'm 99.9% sure it's just a fatty mass but I'll mention it to the vet when they contact me with the cytology results.
