My cat hasn't been able to stand or walk properly, won't eat and hardly drinks. His eyes seem to have a large amount of mucous in them. He's old, about 70-90 cat years. Recently his litterbox hadn't been changed for about 11 days, could he have gotten an infection from this? He passed earlier this morning, I want to know it could have been prevented.

I don't know if it could have been prevented or not. Did you take him to the vet? They can perform a necropsy, the animal version of an autopsy. That could give you some answers. I'm very sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry for your loss, but am speechless at a litter box not being changed for 11 days!
Your cat may have just died from old age, but when a cat stops eating or drinking it is very serious and the cat needs to be taken to a vet ASAP. The mucus in the eyes can be a sign of an Upper Respiratory Infection that can be fatal if left untreated.
Again, I'm sorry for your loss.
