 so, i called my dad today and told him that i have 2 finches, and they laid eggs, he was like "Kari, i think you are over you limit on pets when it comes to the law??? i was like ' i thought that law was only for Dogs and cats? so, i looked it up and i can only find laws restricting on how many dogs/cats you can have ( which is 2 dogs and but no limits on cats), so, my question is does anyone's state have a law that limits you on caged animals??? my dad says he can smell the birds when he comes in ( mind you he has no pets what so ever) so, he says that since he can smell them, it is bad... keep in mind i clean there cage everyday?!?

i have a total of:

2 fish tanks with fish/frogs

1 100 gal tank with 4 turtles

1 30 gal tank with 1 YBS

1 30 gal tank with 2 dwarf hamsters

1 10 gal with 1 dwarf hamster ( Long story don't ask LOL)

and 1 lovebird cage with 1 bird

1 finch cage with 2 finches and 1 clutch of eggs...

also, my dad thinks that the cost of these pets upkeep is way to much for me to handle, but, i think i am doing a good job cuz i can get ALL the food for less than 100 bucks and the care/accessories for like 60 so no more than like 200 per month on total care.
so, is there a law as to how many caged animals you can have???

thanks everybody :D

As far as I know, State Law only covers dogs and sometimes cats.

I currently have 15 pets. I'm sure my house smells different than a house with no pets, but we do our best to keep cages and litterboxes clean.

My parents worry that we have too many animals and that it costs too much, but that's what parents do. Hubby and I are grown ups and we like all the pets. :)

Just dog and cat number restrictions here. My ex-stepdad is a no pets person who always claims it smells like dog, no matter what. We had a problem with the septic system and it smelled like sewer one day, he walks in and says "it smells like dog". I was cutting an onion yesterday and he walked in and said it smelled like dog. We just ignore his whining because apparently he doesn't know what dog smells like to begin with. I'm sure you keep your cages clean enough where the only animal smell is clean animal smell.

To my knowledge only limits on dogs here unless you get a kennel license, no specified limits on cats or caged animals. I don't know that I've ever heard of a place having a limit on caged animals so long as they are kept humanely and cleanly.

I've only heard of dog and cat limits. HOWEVER a hoarding law "may" apply if your city has one. Those also are normally aimed for dog and cat safety.

What's "YBS" stand for?

i looked up hoarding and i sooo do not fit that one ;) . i have a designated pet cleaning day, usually every Friday, and they all get through cleaning, with spot cleaning during the week.

YBS is a Yellow Bellied Slider, they are 90% water turtles and 10% land..
here is my YBS

he was rescued from a lady who did not know how to care for him, in the pic he was in a 30 gal 1/4 full of water, and has since graduated to about 1/2 way ;)
